Getting worried...

Sorry to say, but I'm worried. I've watched for any news of any kind for Star Control Origins, and pretty much there has been nothing since last year.

I really hope it makes it out this year.

Hi I saw the YT video, before didn't even know the game was being made. I was going to pay for the early access, but can't see any info other than that 1 video. Is this still being worked on?

Yep. :)

As development continues much of the info is being shared with the Founders.

I wouldn't worry, there have been updates pretty regularly in the founders vault.

I am actually worried too, not content-wise but rather publicity-wise.

Lack of early publicity is what I remember killed Enemy Territory Quake Wars by Splash Damage even before it was released (stupid Activision). The public need to know and see the game's media coverage well before the release (but not too early else interest dies off). If not, the key moment will be missed and there's nothing on earth that can recover the public image/perception/recognition situation after release (well, unless it's a masterpiece of course, which there are so far a few signs of), imho.

But I am sure the devs know all about it and 100x more. Which to me hints that the actual release will be delayed because the campaign machine hasn't been fired up yet ;)

There is a great deal of progress being made. Your worries are unfounded.

It has been a month since I started this post.

And nothing.

And to my understanding, it has been over 1 year since any news, new images, videos, or anything has been released.

A year!

I extra worried.

We post frequent updates to the founder’s group.

The final release date won’t be this year.

I've been worried for some time as well.

It feels like they've been making this game for 3 yrs now. Lol

we all want to be patient, because we want a great star control origins game.

but we've waited oh so long.

They do make madden football every year, you know. Lol just sayin'.

But I'm sure there are many working hard on this game.

its works for me, anyways.

by the time SC origins is released, I should be able to buy a PS4 for $99.99.

lol

This makes me think I should actually go look in the founders vault for once..

It feels longer than that. ;)

Unlike Madden, we have to make Star Control from scratch. There’s no game in the market quite like it.

The 25th anniversary of SC2is coming up and we will have more news then.

No, I agree, this is worrying!

No news, nothing.

Is StarDock expecting us to pay for news (become founders)? I mean, I don't expect founder level information, but something every few month or two would be reassuring.

I am against pre-orders/early-access/"founder system"/"paying for the hope of a good game", so I won't be going that route.

If there's a create/design your own ship in SC Origins, then take as long as you need.

It's my #1 desire for a new addition.

Imo, that would take SC to a new level.

Do take your time, a good game is worth waiting for, please don't haste it !

O no please don't create a "design your own ship" option, that is going to  force generic ships just to look different and not special, if not generic the balance will be interrupted, a whole chain reaction follows that will mess with all things good in the game. I want just a few well stardock designed main ships with uniques abilities and upgrades to choose from. Same goes for the alien ships, Stardock needs to build them from scratch with unique abilities, paying attention to the detail, just as was done with star control 2.

Speed, Thrust, Turn Rate, Energy, Health, Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon.

That's it.  This is an arcade game with arcade space ships.  When talking about customizing ships, or allowing the player to design ships, keep in mind that the above seven attributes are all that a ship in SCO is.  That's all you've got to work with.  The designs of ships at this arcade level is a kind of art form, and it's mostly about the Primary and Secondary weapon/systems.  Take those away and Speed, Thrust, Turn Rate, Energy, and Health are all that is left.

Not much of a "Ship Editor" in there anywhere, is there?

This is a very simple arcade game, with very simple ship designs.  There are no destroyers, heavy cruisers, and battleships with a dozen secondary weapons, 6 primaries, and a dozen other ship systems.  Just Speed, Thrust, Turn Rate, Energy, Health, Primary Weapon, and Secondary Weapon.  That's it.  That's a ship in SCO.

EDIT: And, of course, all of the attributes of the ship are almost entirely governed by the Primary/Secondary you choose to put on it.  The ship with the most powerful "one-shot weapon" MUST be very slow and sluggish, for example.  The weapon/device governs the ship attributes... so there really is not much to work with in terms of a "Ship Editor".

No one is expecting you to pay for updates. The Founders program is there for people interested in investing in the development of the game and giving feedback on what's available to them at the time. Like any other studio there will be gaps in news because the game is still very much in development. The updates seem longer with Star Control because it was introduced to the public early on, and some content is not that interesting to the general public. Once the team is satisfied they have some awesome features to show the community we'll get them out to you.

Hopefully everyone will hang with the team and give them the time they need to make this game amazing!
