Once you get through it the first time, we'd add a "Fast Start.." with some options so you can pick which chapter you want to start with.

So you are going with a chapter route... That implies that there are missables. :( True?

Here we are!

First of all, I have to say that I agree 100% with the notion that Winter is the best time to get work done, no guilt = maximum productivity!

On a more analytical note, a great update and it is exceptionally helpful to see more insight into the struggles and structure of the game at its current state. One comment I do have on Super Melee in particular is that the UI looks a little bland, with a lot of extra space that may not be necessary, although considering that this is a pre-pre-Alpha I am more than willing to hold my judgement on that aspect until we get the actual demonstration where I can provide more...substantial feedback.

Wonderful to see progress on the introduction, and my previous concerns about the layout of it seems to have mostly been alleviated, so that is wonderful to see (sometimes, information can cure criticism). I do appreciate the idea of having optional side-quests in the solar system and having a greater amount of technology/materials to find in the introduction is a good way to encourage exploration early on, in my opinion.

I will have to dig a bit deeper before I can conjure up any other praises/criticism but so far this update is greatly appreciated, and I am excited to see a potential playable Super Melee demo next month!

Music is great.  I've been looping it and enjoying it behind other games.

The update journal was a good read thought at the end of page 12 I was begging for more!

Thanks for the update!

I almost forgot to add, 14 GB load up currently?  No issue here with that.  Can you try to include a way for those with 32+ GB of RAM to load the entirety if we wish to?

Brad, for that "Fast Start" option you should make it meaningful in some way.  For example, doing the "tutorial quest" might earn you some type of ship upgrade that will make you noticeably more powerful in the very early stages of the post-tutorial game.  But it is not an advantage that an experienced player really needs.  Still, a person playing for a second time might still decide to play the tutorial.  If it was just the opening story they might skip it, the "tutorial upgrade" gives them a reason to play through that opening story again.  Some will still skip it, others will decide to go through the opening story and get the extra item just for the fun of it and because they want the extra powerful early ship.

To both players, it seems like there is something game related to it all instead of being just a menu option to skip the tutorial.  It might not seem like much, but in the end these kinds of "polish touches" are the difference between a really great game and a legendarily memorable one.

Please don't label it, or name it "tutorial". SCII held your hand but in an organic way. You could leave the solar system, but couldn't reach anywhere meaningful, because you only have 10 fuel. And you couldn't get more fuel until you found earth, and helped them in a few ways - gathering radioactives and clearing out the moon base, culminating in finally destroying an Ilwrath ship - half-crew and unable to cloak - so as to ease your passing through the "non-tutorial"... whenever I start up a new game of SCII, I NEVER ever ever want to skip that part because it's so organic, and completely hidden as far as tutorials go! So fun!

Can you do that, Brad? Something like that?

Well! it was a long update!

loved the read all the way trough!

Firstly, it seems that even with the problems of staff and the difficulty of the engine, things are going steady, what is good to read! good luck with the boost when Galactic Civilizations III projects are over! (and good luck with the project at hand as well)

And now... The story

Well... Its good! i want to say that is great but...

Heh who am i kidding! Is Very Good!  :D just don't want to HAVE to accept all the quests in this game, but the beginning of the story and how your character gets tangled up with galactic affairs is actually great! :)

And these Scryve makes me intrigued... not much information on them? our new Ur-Quan overlords! (seems to have a bit of Reaper too) Maybe we can take a look on the Aliens in a vault update? please? XD

And... The themes! hearing them, they are so cool! they feel old-school and new at the same time! and the best one so far is the Scryve theme, so evil sounding, with a bit of technological advance!

ALSO! Love the planets style, its our planet but, you guys made a distinct spin on it! ;)

I agree about the tutorial, it's so well hidden I never noticed until you just mentioned it. Well played.

The music sounds great!  I get a SC3 vibe from it, it's much more somber than SC2. The industrial Drenkend theme reminds me of the Doog theme.

While I have enjoyed the game updates, I really appreciate the studio update. It's very fascinating to get the glimpse behind the game. While i enjoy all your sandbox games, I am really exited to see you tell a story. One of my favorite decisions in GalCiv was the campaign changing based on winning or losing the map. It made an excellent narrative without needing the exposition.

They introduced you to all systems (except bio material's eventual use) in those first 30 minutes, without ever giving you an invisible wall, a labeled tutorial, or overtly forcing you in one direction - while still basically forcing you down one direction ;)

There was ship navigation, conversation screens with dialog choices, planetary exploration, resource blips and their collection, Energy blips to investigate, bio blips to shoot, quests, outfitting your ship (and refueling), and finally easy-mode tutorial-like combat. All the while artificially, invisibly and organically making sure you don't REALLY leave till you're done. "Tutorial" was never even in the picture!

I believe this is something we can help Stardock on immensely. Let us help, Brad :D

Cuorebrave, He said that is the plan already.  The two things they seem to plan on letting us mess with soon are super melee and the opening part of the full game.

Hehe, true :) I know he SAID that, but... I think I was urging more like, ACTUALLY, REALLY let us help lol... But you're right. I'm hoping it's true, I look forward to coming up with some cool stuff 😎

I really dislike the huge-ass-in-yo-face marker GFX on that Tywom ship. That GFX isn't needed at all. Make the scene more natural looking or if you wanna keep the marker - make it smaller, more subtle - unobtrusive.

Wow, why couldn't the Star Control Reboot trailer be as cool and epic looking as the new GalCiv expansion that just debuted??

https://www.galciv3.com/crusade

The SC trailer looks so underwhelming and basic after that, knowing what Stardock is capable of.

And GalCiv: Crusade has a cool looking female captain as well! I'm jealous!

The story starts off - "The shield around Earth has been eliminated..." Hah! I wonder where that storyline was inspired from?

Well, to be fair, comparing a trailer for a game that was just announced, and as such lacks most of its assets, lore, set pieces and core ideals, to a trailer where the game has already been released, the lore has been established and the mechanics hardened isn't entirely a fair comparison. Once we have a release/legitimate trailer for Star Control: Origins I would be willing to subjugate the trailer to such scrutiny.

Edit: Curse you, Hunam!

Off-topic: is it just me, or did the Gal-civ 3 trailer have an aesthetic akin to Deadlock and SCNot3 combined?

Because that's a GalCiv trailer and this is Star Control? If you want epic modern sci-fi there are a lot of options out there. Star Control is quirky, and I'd say the crew is doing a pretty good job of sticking to the formula so far (much to the chagrin of some around here).

Wasn't commenting on the art-style, or modern sci-fi. Thanks for the input, though.

Sure, but the GalCiv trailer was a reveal, as well.

Sure, but the GalCiv trailer didn't show much of the in-game gameplay, it was just a really nice-looking series of set-pieces. I was more commenting on how well-put-together the trailer was. The GC trailer has very high production values, in my opinion.

And hey, when did everyone decide to adore the SC:O trailer all of a sudden? I must have missed that, since everyone is defending it so fervently. I guess it's considered to be a stellar trailer by everyone on here, so I won't argue.

Yeah, man, I always think of Deadlock when playing GC, art-wise, especially the aliens. Aw, I loved Deadlock :D Accolade's last great game.

^ No, it's not a reveal trailer. It's a trailer for the established game new expansion as TTT mentioned.

Not really true. By definition, it's a reveal, as they're revealing a new game that was unknown until now, but like I said - It's not worth arguing with you over. Have a good evening, whatever-your-name-is :D

Well, but either way the expansion is apart of a franchise that has been established with lore and expectations from the trailer, Star Control: Origins has none of that. But I am not saying that the Star Control trailer was so "blow me away amazing" that it is immune from criticism, I think that is fine, however, I do think that if we are to be making comparisons with a pre-released game to the reveal trailer of an expansion for a game that was released years ago, not to mention that said game is apart of a franchise that has had consistent updates and invigoration in the past decade, then we should at least wait for the actual trailer of the game, and not the reveal. At that point I would say criticize the trailer to your heart's content, but I don't think we are at that point yet.

How much can we post in the founders star base that is in the vault?

Everything and anything, the Founders Starbase is for the founders to post their thoughts.
