Captain's Identity?

Do I have any choices for customizing my captain?

I'd like to play a female captain. I understand we might not even see ourselves, so maybe different customization may not matter that much, but it would be cool to pick what pronouns to be referred to and maybe a backstory if it figures into the plot at all. 

I don't remember if we discussed this before, but I like the option of doing a little bit of customizing if possible. Makes me feel more engaged in the game right from the start.

I wonder if we can choose the sex, or if the sex will be addressed at all!

Outside the opening and closing of SC2 was there even a reference to the Captain's gender?  I can't think of any.

Anyways, if they need to reference the gender of the captain then yeah make it so that the player can pick.

In the Star Control: Interbellum novel yes, but that was horrible so I don't recommend reading it.
