August Vault Update is Live
The August vault is update is now live!
Your update mentions that 3v3 supermelee is not likely to make it to the initial release. But. Have you considered (for story mode at least) to have 1v3 in the initial release? i.e. 1 human vs 3 AIs
I'd guess that the same "Leroy Jenkins" issue mentioned regarding AI allies crops up in a 1 vs 3 AI situation. Not saying it wouldn't be fun though.
The AI not being human-level, at least strategically, is normal; however I think a human player will have both fun and be forced into more lesser-of-two-evils situation when faced with a one-vs-many situation.
As an alternative to 3v3, perhaps it could be possible to designate 2 ships out of your fleet as "combat support" ships. These would provide some passive bonus, and the bonus would depend on the alien/ship chosen. Or possibly the captains, if that is an element that is emphasized.
One thought that I had, if the developers want to keep the top down type battles, then there could be a scanning report window or something like that to inform the player what they are up against. While this may somewhat limit the ship visuals in the super melee combat, it would give the more classic feel to the game battles.
Otherwise I would think that the partial angle something like how the over the shoulder game play works in some games might work.
Though in a perfect world since they want to showcase the ship visuals, have a 'free cam' type mode where the player can rotate the view around the ship (sort of like the star trek online feature)

Very stoked. Sorry for my absence, family tragedy had taken priority for that last month.
1. Video of game play: Nice start so far. not sure I like the planet features being so visible and HUGE on approach and in orbit. The mushrooms had to be 10000 ft tall!
2. Melee: it will amuse me until the game comes out, but out of the 5 sub games, I like alien questing, exploring, and ship building the most. melee is not on the top of my list.
3. Super Melee opinions on stated arguments: A. Top down (default) with the ability to change to angle view BAM!! everyone is happy.
B. Inertia should be based on mass and engine size. funny enough I'm taking another physics class right now.
C. Ships should be limited to two unless you add a points system that allow melee players to upgrade between rounds based on points earned. Every new game defaults to stock 2 weapons.
D. Ship designs, yeah have at it.
4. Ship Design for the game will be cool, I look forward to earning ship mods.
Good Work so far. I look forward to playing it soon.

Actually your wrong. Vaelzad said in a prior post that he/they read all the posts and since my comments are directed to the staff this is the most appropriate place.
It looks like I can't download anything from the vault because of a HTTP 500 error.
