Upcoming Star Control: Origins steam keys notice

Upcoming Star Control: Origins steam keys notice

I have some good news and I have some bad news.

The good news is that we are on schedule to start delivering Steam keys for testing multiplayer Super Melee this Fall.

The bad news is that Steam gives us a very limited number of keys for testing.  That means that when it comes to the multiplayer testing, we won't be able to give every Founder a Steam key this early (all Founders will get builds under NDA but not all will be Steam builds unless we can negotiate with Valve some way to give out Steam keys without having to use their early access system).

The way we are going to decide who gets keys is base don who is active here as there's no point in sending test keys to people who can't or won't be able to give us feedback.

Lastly, tomorrow's big status update is expected to have video of game play in the Founder's Vault.

Right now, Star Control is a team effort of Stardock + Mohawk + Oxide.  We might also be getting some help from Ironclad. It's a really big project.

This is under NDA as we have not officially announced the involvement of any of these teams.

I'm active once a month when the new zip files come out and give my feedback.   Hope I can get a key to check it out and actively play and provide feedback.

What is considered "Active"?    25 postings?  50 postings?

Thanks.

From the first night I came home, every night when the put me in the crib before they went to sleep, my father would get my attention and then slowly count to 10 holding his hands over my face with the right number of fingers up for each number.  He did this every night of my life until finally he made a recording, that he still has, of me counting to 10 prompted by his fingers at 2 years and 1 month old.  If I had children, I would have done this too.

Just an idea, and congratulations!!!

Sounds good

Though does that impact how you do "Phase 2" of the Founders rollout?

Many Founders, I'm sure, signed up just for this. 8O   I'm glad you mentioned this ahead of time. Hopefully the non-active ones will never even know. *_*

If they complain, you can point them to this thread made in August!

I'm having a baby tomorrow at 7:30 AM and here I am tonight checking for vault updates...if that's not die-hard, I don't know what is!  :)

Congrats!

It's too bad about the steam keys, especially for those of us that have been long-time fans of Star Control and even more so for those of us that got in on the Lifetime Founders Program in November.   I haven't seen much to be overly active about yet, and/or I've been waiting patiently for something more than a short video clip.  Until there is something to do or see here I'll continue playing my SC1 from GoG.  At this point if I don't receive a Steam key for the multiplayer part that is fine.  I'm not a huge fan of MP in modern gaming.  Hopefully it does mean that there will be something for the rest of us that doesn't revolve around MP in the nearer future.  Cheers.

Makes sense, some of you guys are nuts.

Although I do have 60 hours in No Mans Sky, so maybe I am the one who is nuts

Activity on these forums when there is no game yet is not the same thing as having ability to give feedback when there is a working prototype. Especially when some people (including myself) only recently got any notification that there were any forums, or much of anything, for Founders. I am currently testing three games and I provide almost daily feedback to the devs about things that are not working, look weird, act weird, or if I have an idea to make them better.

............ so, then be active on these forums, right? Sounds like a good plan! There's 500 keys, and only 30 people on here. Start posting!

When I received my confirmation e-mail that my star name was approved I got extra excited as it appeared at first read that the alpha download was available too.... but heart break it was not to be found in my Steam client. But soon, soon I say!!

"Thank you for submitting your planet name to be included into Star Control. It has been approved, and will be added to the game sometime between now and the game’s release. Your planet name can be edited at any time by revisiting the Name a Planet webpage.

We appreciate your support, and we hope you enjoy Star Control as much as we do.

As a reminder, all of our Founders can download the latest build of the game from Steam. Founders who purchased their copy through Stardock will have to add the Steam key provided to them to their Steam account.

Thanks again, and happy conquering!"

CivHunter,   you wouldn't be able to find it on your Steam Client yet or at all until you get a key.

There's no way your steam client will know that you're a founder.  Unless you actually bought the founder's program through steam.

I got mine directly from the Stardock Website.    Checked my Stardock account and nothing there to download and no steam key yet.

What tech job does any work in December? Everybody is OOO half the month due to vacation carryover limits.

The one time I worked for a computer game developer I spent the entire month of December at the end of 3 straight months working alone to turn their empty engine of unrelated parts into a playable game for them in just three months.  But I guess you are right, I was alone in the office for most of the month with just one programmer there most of the time just to make me feel like I was not finishing their game for them completely alone while everyone else was on vacation.

And, of course, the fact that the game wasn't a big smash hit is then all put at my feet because my name is on it as the designer.  They were so offended when I asked to not put my name on it before I had even started that I just let it go... that was a mistake.  Most people that worked there immediately got other jobs in the industry.  This is why I would never make anyone else's game again, only mine.  Making a game you KNOW will not be any good is a HUGE MISTAKE.  Never do that!!!

Looking forward to playing. I have more free time again now.

Uh like in the title of this post

And in the body

Aka steam keys will be coming on a limited basis to active users on the forums for Super Melee that is probably going to come out sometime in Fall-ish

This is due to Steam being more stingy about giving out Steam keys before a game is available on Steam to be sold. Given the amout of sheer stupidity on the Steam forums that went around when GalCiv3 came out with the Founders package Stardock is being a lot more cautions about when they launch on Steam.

Someone in this thread seemed to imply they had a key in their profile, or were looking for the game in their steam client already. Which seemed to contradict the original post and I got a little confused. But I think I've got a handle on it now! :)

On a side note, I found the latest founder packages pretty exciting. I'm not sure how I missed them when they were first posted. I'll be sure to keep a closer eye on things. I have pretty bad repetitive strain injury right now so I haven't been as avid of forum user as I'd like :(

I'm taking this whole next month off to recover, so I'm hoping I'll be in good shape to test things out!
