Upcoming Star Control: Origins steam keys notice

Upcoming Star Control: Origins steam keys notice

I have some good news and I have some bad news.

The good news is that we are on schedule to start delivering Steam keys for testing multiplayer Super Melee this Fall.

The bad news is that Steam gives us a very limited number of keys for testing.  That means that when it comes to the multiplayer testing, we won't be able to give every Founder a Steam key this early (all Founders will get builds under NDA but not all will be Steam builds unless we can negotiate with Valve some way to give out Steam keys without having to use their early access system).

The way we are going to decide who gets keys is base don who is active here as there's no point in sending test keys to people who can't or won't be able to give us feedback.

Lastly, tomorrow's big status update is expected to have video of game play in the Founder's Vault.

Right now, Star Control is a team effort of Stardock + Mohawk + Oxide.  We might also be getting some help from Ironclad. It's a really big project.

This is under NDA as we have not officially announced the involvement of any of these teams.

Someone in this thread seemed to imply they had a key in their profile, or were looking for the game in their steam client already. Which seemed to contradict the original post and I got a little confused. But I think I've got a handle on it now! :)

Oh I see. That's certainly not the case at this time. If Super Melee gets announced and keys distributed, you can be sure there will be LOTS of threads about it.

I have pretty bad repetitive strain injury right now so I haven't been as avid of forum user as I'd like :(

I guess you could use voice controls to talk into the forum instead?

"I am really looking forward to Star Control" -> "I am really looking forward to Cow Controtion"

"What? No delete that!!" -> "Delete your phone, please confirm or deny"

"OH SHIT NO STOP!" -> "Stopping restore, deleting all data"

haha yes, that is my experience with voice control. My work requires a lot of mouse movement / tablet use, in addition to long hours spent programming, and neither is much good for me. Though I think the iphone 6s also messed me up, honestly, since it's larger and I've been on it more than I'd like. I've got all kinds of weird ergonomic stuff and stand/sit desk and all that crap now, but I really need a break lol

Ok devs, will you be implementing voice control in the alpha? ;)

"kill it. no shoot it. ugh run away. no kill it."

OMG, has anyone ever seen the Impractical Jokers where Joe is at a fast food burger restaurant and the other jokers tell him he has to pretend to take this lady's order as if it was a new voice input system?

"CUSTOMER NAME - no - GO BACK. GO BACK. NAME! GO BACK."

Definitely had to be there, but hilarious if you were!

And speaking of cows...  How about this amazing classic that almost nobody ever actually played...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqSHQp-RsRE

The cows reminded me of it, cause Ganjhi slings cows at you with a catapult instead of using nuclear weapons, since he's a pacifist and all that, haha!

This is an awesome and easy re-make that could do very well as a $20 Steam game, Stardock... Hint, hint...  If I had my own game company, I would be making this... Don't change a thing, right down to the names... especially Ronny Raygun!!!  It deserves an award for best made up computer game character name ever!!!  SDI???  Don't change a thing!!!  Make EXACTLY this game with updated graphics and sound, and that's it.  Simple by today's standards.

Remake exactly Nuclear War as is with no changes in like 6-9 months, put on Steam for $20 = Profit:-)

Oh, and let me playtest it, of course, because I've been waiting to play my "secret weapon" quick and easy success game for like 15 years now, haha!!!

Ronny Raygun is pretty good, but some of the individual citizens in Caesar III were brain twisters, unless you knew your Latin. I particularly liked Robertus Rubervadius (Robert Redford).

I just realized that we bought founders pack from StarDock, which means when we get a steam key for the final product,   I am concerned that our "reviews" are counted as "free product key" users.

And most people won't necessarily take our reviews as legit when posting reviews on steam.

What is StarDocks going to be doing about the Founder's Access keys and their reviews on Steam?

Can't you just uncheck the "i got this product for free" ? ;O

I feel like that's probably not the case. People buy games on steam from non steam platforms all the time, like amazon or green man gaming, and then put in the keys to activate them. We paid for the game.

Bought Civ 6 on greenmangaming yesterday for $48. Sean Bean convinced me. RIP time. And Sean Bean.

Ahhh

Sean Bean dying in media... Classic!

XD

Actually, Civ 6 may be the first time he DOESN'T die.

It's Easily Fixed ;)

The only movie where Sean Bean doesn't die too!

What Steam does now is have a display for reviews with options for ones bought on steam and product activation as well as the option to see both.  The question is how they would handle it for ones bought before early access started (ie bought today or anytime before EA as well as keys for the people who couldn't get a Steam key from the get go).  That is a major question.  It seems that keys bought and activated before the review revamp last month were grandfathered in and are treated as keys purchased through Steam.

Sounds kind of like a predicament I mean I hoping the latter happens rather than the former in regards to the keys. Would only be fair for every Founder to have the keys rather then just a select few, not like we all didn't pay for it.

I missed the original Founders opening due to some family issues, but jumped in as soon as it opened again. Hoping to get the chance to provide some input as a life-long SC fan.

I'm still excited that this game is happening.  As much as i go back to SC1 and 2, and update is going to be awesome.  I just have to remember to come out to the forums.

No baseball tonight, no hockey tonight, munching on as much candy as I'm giving out...it's a great time to scan the forums while waiting for the doorbell to ring.

Dreaming of SCO and future Boo-ster Packs, er, DLCs. :)

Have a good one,

Mercy

Note no one has gotten Steam keys for Star Control yet. The game isn't' even on Steam. Thus any keys founders would get would be considered externally bought. And thus do not count ot the % user score on Steam.
