Don't fall into the No Man's Skytrap

Don't fall into the No Man's Skytrap

Remember the discussions we had about how big the universe should be?

I hope Stardock is watching the reviews of No Man's Sky.

Check out the first looks on Metacritic. (Ignore the user ratings because they were bombed by 4chan.)

I know this opinion is going to be unpopular with the explorer crowd, but it has to be said. Repetition is what you get when you have a huge, procedurally generated universe, and the critics are questioning the longevity/staying-power of the game because of it.

I don't want repetition. Give me more curated worlds and less algorithms, please.

Here's at least 4 different times... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE0nuW-mQ8A

Secondly, it's not whining to want to get what's promised to you. Seems pretty sensible, actually...

Thirdly, I heard him talk about "multiplayer" a million times, always couching it in the fact that it's not multiplayer because the universe is so big. I would really have appreciated him saying what we all know now: "It's not multiplayer because we didn't put multiplayer in the game" instead of "Well, it's multiplayer, but you'll probably never find another person..." That's just misleading. And if you think I must be an isolated case who was too stupid to understand and didn't do my research - that's not the case. Many, many, many people were misled by this, myself included. And it doesn't make us stupid, it just means he was misleading.

And I mean, let's be honest... they were planning multiplayer, right? And they cut it for whatever reason. It happens. But when it DOES happen, you should just say it, folks. Sean should just say, "Multiplayer was planned, but it got cut because of the timeline for release..." But he didn't want to do that, did he? He didn't want less people buying the game.

And uh... sticker on the box doesn't mean "jack shit". What world do you live in? Try telling that to Nutrition labels, or things slapped incorrectly with the "organic" box, or AshleyMadison.com that stated is getting collectively sued for breach of customer privacy, when they created their OWN "Certified Secure" sticker to slap on their product... and then leaked 36 million customers' info, lol.

And I didn't say "Everything is habitable" - I said everything was ALREADY INHABITED! That's stupid and makes your "exploring" and categorizing things pointless - it's already been categorized and named BY THE CURRENT INHABITANTS. OF EVERY SINGLE PLANET. That shit's just lame. You're not "discovering" a single thing. Not one thing. Every planet is already inhabited by sentients, or super-AI.

Lastly, platinum and zinc plants (the same exact ones on every single planet in the entire 18quintillion) are just an EXAMPLE of the promise of "No two planets alike" not being fulfilled. To me, that's a fib. Every planet has the same exact thing, and in many cases, the same exact form.

And the "bigger things" you referred to are ALSO right. I don't know what you're trying to prove me wrong about. It seems like I'm supporting everything you say except where you're attacking me and calling me a whiner and saying "jack shit" to me, who literally just stepped into this conversation. Who's got "uncontained Internet Rage" now?!

Dude, WHERE DOES HE SAY THE MP IS GONNA BE IN THE GAME?

1. The dude has no clue what NMS spelled like and he mentions Massively Multiplayer World?.. WTF is Massively Multiplayer World even?... SM was just laughing at his unprepared stupid ass.

2. Colbert was 1 year before the game release.

3. "You could encounter other players (if we decide to program it)... The reality of it is the likelihood of it is tiny(we're not planning to program it in the game as of now)..." What do you think that means? It means you're not getting it.

4. "Playing with friends" in a shared universe. Exactly what NMS is right now.

Nothing of this indicated MP except Colbert interview.

He did mention multiplayer million times, saying DON'T BUY this game if you're looking for it. NMS is not a MULTIPLAYER GAME.

Do you need videos or you're just gonna skip 'em like you completely ignored inconvenient truth I posted?

Multiplayer is not off the table if that's what you wanna hear. NMS is still gonna be developed. That was in his last interview before the release that I posted... But again, there's no promise of MP.

They were never planning MP for NMS in a MP sense. NEVER EVER will you find him confirming development of MP.

OMG. Yes, that sticker means w/e is on it. W/E is under sticker means nothing. Maybe some dumbass mistakenly put MP label on it and it got printed 200000 copies. Who the hell knows what's up with that. The existence of the sticker means nothing = jack shit.

My bad, I meant "inhabited". What does it change?... Isn't it exactly what's in all the trailers? Everything is named, you just have ability to rename it. You knew it was there. Whose fault is it that you didn't realize it earlier that it's lame. To me, I don't care for that a bit. Less buildings mod

Lastly, platinum and zinc plants... Oh, FFS... Did you seriously expect every planet to have everything different?.... Do you know you can completely ignore platinum flowers and just look for Platinum Silo bases that have 4-5 big containers with platinum that's enough to craft anything?

And the "bigger things" you referred to are ALSO right... Of course they're right, 'cause I followed the game's development unlike most of shitshow posters. There's reasonable criticism of NMS and there's unfounded like MP whine and "Sean lied"...

It sucks that the game sucks in so many areas... Who even makes perfect games? Apart from Stardock, of course........

Woah, buddy. I know I'm usually known as the hostile one here, but you might wanna cool it down a notch. Relax, it's okay that not everyone like this thing you like. Just think nasty things about them in private like I do. <3

Hunam, seriously. I obviously stepped into a very loaded conversation on accident.

Bro, HALF the karma you even HAVE is from me because I always value your opinion and think you're a great voice on a lot of things.

But this, though? This is a little too much. I posted on here just to say I felt like Sean was purposely deceitful in order to get as many front-loaded sales as possible and felt cheated about the soulless husk of a game I bought for a whole AAA $60. thats it.

You're Raging against me, for no damn reason, as a latecomer to this topic and that's a but much. Cursing and telling me how dumb I am - just because I'm not swingin' from NMS's nuts? I'm entitled to my opinion, just as much as you are.

And the thing you're forgetting is - we're on the same side! Extremely disappointed with a game that was drowning in hype. Our critique may be on different parts, but there's hardly a person on earth that things NMS is an incredible masterpiece in gaming. At best it's a walking/flying simulator. At worst, it's an inventory management game. Big deal. No need to fly off the handle.

And damn, I've never heard of anyone getting so bent out of shape over me calling out the exact replica platinum flower on 18 quintillion worlds. I just think it's boring. You're somehow offended by that. I don't get it, but no big deal - can't we all be friends?

Hey, I'll try to be concise to not come across as if I'm trying to offend you, 'cause never in million years was it my intent.

I feel like the convo was started to liven up the forum with some kinda shitshow since NMS release provided a solid ground for it. And OP somewhat succeeded in it.

Thanks for appreciating my opinion, but I really don't care for that "karma". I'm not here to collect virtual approval. I hope you aren't either.

To say that Sean purposefully deceived his fan-base is too much of a stretch considering all the facts. Which you most likely haven't, 'cause you were busy doing the more important stuff.

I wasn't raging and haven't insulted you in any way. Pardon my french if I used it too deliberately. It was never directed to your person.

Never ever in any of the posts I said NMS is a masterpiece. All I said was MP is not the reason you can use to return the game or chastise HG for. Neither is PG.

I am disappointed too, but very hopeful it gets remedied considering that they are pulling off all-nighters to fix all the bugs and make the game 100% playable for everybody. I think that deserves some credit. The interview before the release confirmed the fact that they're not leaving the game in its current state.

As I said, little stuff isn't even worth mentioning when there's bigger stuff on the line. It's not like if they gave you a variety of platinum plants you'd change your opinion on the game much.

Wow, hunam. You can't stop can you? I wasn't saying you should be grateful for the karma. I said I GAVE you those karma points because I enjoy your opinions. After the hot mess you've turned this post into, I've changed my mind.

Everyone's allowed to change their mind. JUST like everyone is allowed to have their own opinion of a terrible, lie-ridden and pointless, soulless husk of a game. Like NMS.

Here is a good op-ed piece on the returning of NMS outside the window.

I am posting this because I feel that if you pay for and play a game that is broken and don't request a refund, you are basically giving the developers a thumbs-up for bad behavior. If you feel that the developers will make improvements, wait until the improvements are made before you give them your money (again).
