Wanting to create Scenarios

Hi all

I've been playing Sins for about 3 years now, and while I enjoy the online combat, I'm very much a campaign-man at heart.

As such, I tend to dislike what often ends up as 'who has the most of this ship wins' and would much prefer to be given a single cap ship, or similar, and fight my way through a few small waves of enemies, find the designated planet and link up with more ships in order to take back a system / artifact etc. Having to guard your ship very carefully and micromanage abilities actually appeals to me, and having a handful of ships that all gain exp, (rather than just caps) and being rewarded for keeping them alive is my kind of game.

While I believe Homeworld may slip into this category (among other games, I'm sure) I'm such a huge fan of SoSE gameplay and combat overall that I would rather mod this than change over.

To be specific, I play a lot of Sins of the Prophets, the excellent Halo mod, and would love to be able to create scenarios, and set up situations in a similar fashion to Age of Empires.

In short, I need help.

While I'm aware of some basics, and have edited some .txt and .ini files for other things, I really have no clue when it comes to modding and would appreciate any help or direction.

If anyone would be able to walk me through the process, that would be fantastic! I have looked at some modding walkthroughs, including the resources on this site, but I desperately need a live, step-by-step to make this work.

On a similar note, I'd also LOVE to make my own mod of this game, though I understand that's a can of worms for another time! (Probably once I've accomplished this!)

Thanks very much.

PS. Should I have posted this on the SotP site?

Seems like you should try the galaxy forge tool first. It handles making maps. It's really more for planet placement and spawning starting fleets but that would be the first step of any scenario.

Do you not like flagship victory?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yeah ok, I'll delve into that a little more.

Flagship victory is fine, but it's just a start for me, especially as most games I've played turn into, "Hide the flagship!"

Does it get stronger as you go? I've forgotten.

For a Galaxy Forge walkthrough, would you recommend just the one on this site?

Also, one specific thing I'd love to be able to do is to shrink the fleet sizes, which I have not been able to find info on. Apparently everyone else wants larger fleets.

"Hide the flagship!"

That would be because that's what the AI does. And there isn't much anyone can do about that.

Honestly there is no up to date walkthrough for the galaxy forge. It might help but its changed a bit since then. Basics might still be the same.

Most specific questions for it have been answered around here though.

There is a fleet supply scale setting in the game options where you set the game speed, pirates on/off status etc. If you want them even smaller you'll have to mod the game.
