Unusual long turns

Not sure if I am the only one. I am running the opt in 1.8. I love it. Lots of little things not mentioned in the list that are nice touches. Things like a STAR next to techs which are choices meaning if you take it you cannot get others in that vein and will need to buy them.

My current game today the turns are taking a very long time to process. I can submit a ticket if needed. I mean like 2 to 3 minutes between turns at turn 76.

Any one else having similar long turns?

I have Insane map, 17 ai and its really long for me. Not sure whats eating up my time. Its just feels like there is a LOT of stuff going on in the background and its taking up processor time.

I have noticed the turn time also.

Gigantic map, 8 AI no Minors. at turn 26, 35-45s to process a turn. pre 1.71 it used to take 5s at most that low in the game.

Also noticed ships take a second or 2 after issuing orders to move. There is also a 1-2s delay issuing starbase modules and improvements on planets :(

Just for kicks i did a large and huge (6 Ai's common minors) .  Same slow downs.  Also notice  delays on just about all click actions that were not there pre 1.8

^^ Yes there is a delay in my game from clicks to actuation. I am now tabbing out to let the computer do its thing. Maybe an issue with the asteroids I think.

Guess this is why they still use us hard core beta testers :sun:

I was noticing the long turns in 1.7 it was good at the start of the game but slows done as the game progresses

I have noticed a long delay as well.  My first 1.8 game I had turned off FOW just to look around.  Ended up trying that map for a bit and the turns felt like I was in late game.  I thought it was the FOW.  I generated a new map and started up.  The turns were about the same.  It may be that the turns times don't slow down as much.  We'll see.

We're looking into the long turn times.

Personally on excessive at turn 140 ish  I don't see any problem...yet.

NOTE:  I am running GalCiv3 on the SSD.   (Only GC3 and EU4 get installed there,  Everything else goes to mech drive for install, LOL).

Any movement on this? The turn times are making the game almost unplayable.

^^^ Bam, I am on Samsung 850 EVO SSD as well. For some reason the game becomes unplayable after 6 turns into the game after I start but I am currently on turn 125 or so and I can click on the turn counter and you can SEE each faction 'thinking' and then it goes to 'starting new turn' and then about 40 seconds up to 3-4 minutes will pass before it becomes my turn again.

I have a quad core I5 (only four threads) but 16 gigs of memory and all mounted on a good SSD. I was not having this issue prior to 1.8.

Oh thank god.  is there anything we can do to mitigate it in the mean time?

I wonder if the bug I've been getting is the same bug - except mine happens at the end of Turn 1/start of Turn 2 (Starting New Turn message pops up in lower right). Game becomes completely unresponsive, have to use task manager to close it, and then the game fails validation and has to re-download something.

Win 7, AMD FX 8320 8 core slightly OCed, 16 GB RAM, Radeon 7870 graphics card and an SSD. Started game with Insane map, 11 enemies, plenty of minor races and pirates. Just tried it on tiny with otherwise same settings and no issues.

Have you validated files and restarted steam?  After trying on "tiny" map did you try the insane map again?  Are you running any mods

Same here

Went from insane to excessive.   Deleted all xmls & custom races,  validated files to replace xmls

Oddly enough I started a game after that with only core races and turn 1to 2 was quick so went back and copied some races with minor edits in the ui (colors/abilities/etc)  end turn on turn one gets to starting new turn & that's all

Cpu stays pegged &  ram hovers pretty stable.  Once let it go for over an hour

Edit: I don't get the fails validation thing

in case of relevance, the tail en d of my debug.err always seems to look like this:

@pshaw. I submitted #CML-436-70080 with the zip of logs from the SD tool on the hung turn thing possibly being a different  rather than somehow exacerbated slow turn issue

Thanks for the info.  I'll take a look

I have noticed in my excessive game, turn 250+, instances of sudden drastic slowdowns.   It seems to occur when I try to do several things at once. I don't have a clean save that is very close to an event to submit, but I will try to get one if I can and send it along.   Best workaround is not to click like crazy, it seems,  but there may be more to it.

Checking the task manager when it happens, the CPU and memory use are less than 50%, so it doesn't seem to be a  resource issue.

Seems to be something with the map or races. I tried another game & turn 1>2 was fassst, but I didn't Luke the bizarre and starting area I got. Thinking it might have been going down from excessive with the suggested # races to immense with the suggested 24(?) randomly selected races I tried a new game and hung on turn 1 :-(

I'm afraid to play around with it on the chance that it's caused not by a race or stellar feature, but an ai just not going something in the five or six turns I played

I would be very curious to see a save game that reproduces this.  When it shows down, does it seem to get stuck on a particular faction or are all of the factions slow (watch faction pop-ups in the lower left corner)?  Is there anything in particular that you are clicking on?

What extra factions do you have?
