Unusual long turns

Unusual long turns

Not sure if I am the only one. I am running the opt in 1.8. I love it. Lots of little things not mentioned in the list that are nice touches. Things like a STAR next to techs which are choices meaning if you take it you cannot get others in that vein and will need to buy them.

My current game today the turns are taking a very long time to process. I can submit a ticket if needed. I mean like 2 to 3 minutes between turns at turn 76.

Any one else having similar long turns?

I think I narrowed down the problem. On a random idea I went and created different games with insane maps, starting with no pirates and ratcheting up to abundant. Turn lag slowly increases (to be expected) from unnoticeable to around 5-10 seconds on the first turn (lag drops down after first turn), until I selected Abundant. That is when it hangs at the end of the first turn.

@Pshaw   When I see slowdowns I believe in every case the display on the right showed "idle ship" grayed out, and no display of any factions (just to the left of the "idle ship" message.)    Tough to get  a reproducible save, as I can't save once it happens and it is unpredictable.   What I would really need, I think, is a sequence of the mouse clicks that I am doing just before it happens.  As I say, I will try to get something useful if I can.  I am continuing the game and should see it happen again, although as I say, slowing down my clicks/waiting for the display to show my turn is ready seems to solve it.

Quoting Tetrasodium,

Seems to be something with the map or races. I tried another game & turn 1>2 was fassst, but I didn't Luke the bizarre and starting area I got. Thinking it might have been going down from excessive with the suggested # races to immense with the suggested 24(?) randomly selected races I tried a new game and hung on turn 1 :(

I'm afraid to play around with it on the chance that it's caused not by a race or stellar feature, but an ai just not going something in the five or six turns I played

What extra factions do you have?

I zipped up \Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Factions& stuck a copy on dropbox since it seemed the easiest solution.

Most (if not all) of the "$race copy and $race2" had minor changes made in the ui to priorities, colors, etc.  things with more involved stuff like custom artwork or unique names were pulled from steam.

since I saw someone asking for saveshere is one I coincidentally saved around when turn1 when the turn1 hang started & the game that coincidentally did not freeze last night when I realized it coincidentally got autosaved.  I don't know if the freezing one is from before or after I started blowing away & verify integrity of xml's & such.  Since someone mentioned pirates, it might be coincidence that I've been playing with abundant pirates since it seems to make ai less touchy about my military strength.

the save that says click turn is the turn1 save where I told my shipyard to build a colony ship to get end turn & hit the button.  it's been going around half an hour now.  Normal turn time well under an minute for me

edit: normally I play on insane galaxies but these are probably all smaller. I'll keep an eye on the thread, but I'm going to see how the autosaved game does to occupy  myself :)

I see the same thing  with 2 twists. 1) the grayed out idle ship never goes away BUT 2) i can do a save when this happens and the reload to get several more turns in before it happens again

I am past turn 300 (reloading a save game has always fixed the problem so far) and I did have one slow down today.  I tried to save but couldn't get one.  Bleh.   It seems to go through all the AI then "idle ship" appears and there is a massive slowdown (every minute or so something will change on the screen...for a while...and then it stops completely).   Strange that reloading and doing the same stuff doesn't reproduce the slow down --- hence a save game doesn't seem valuable.

I have had one or two instances where after a massive slow down...if I do nothing and wait several minutes, it somehow recovers and is back to normal speed.   Next time that happens I will send along the diagnostic stuff.

These kinds of problems are very tough to troubleshoot, to be sure.

I did manage to get a save in which I reproduced a slow down three times.  I have submitted a ticket.  Hope it helps.
