0-1% crafting at most in this game. Crafting creates a compulsion in many gamers (myself included) and can destroy story. I can't finish Skyrim because I keep crafting and going back to towns to dump inventory, such that it COMPLETELY destroyed the immersion for me. WoW was the same way, and Guild Wars 2 is dangerously close to that for me.
Some people can't handle crafting mixed with intensive story. If people want to craft, there are plenty of games, and heck, real life!, that let you do that. Star Control has not ever been about crafting, and if you put substantial crafting in, I would avoid the system completely for the sake of immersion in the story, and then feel bad that I'm cheating myself out of content.
