Crafting?

Crafting?

Do you guys plan to have Crafting in the game?

If not, may I suggest adding crafting as a mechanic/feature.   This would really make the game awesome.  Especially, the planet exploring aspect.

Stuff to collect for crafting would be really cool.  And Loot from ships that you defeat.

Okay.  Then they will need to add a lot more items to the game to make this interesting.   Ala  Diablo  ?

I guess so long as crafting is not required to progress the story, perhaps after the storyline is complete, the crafting exploring aspect is something players can enjoy.

I'd say a-la Heroes of Might & Magic 2/3. Jigsaw Map Puzzle for an ultimate weapon, anyone?

Sure, but I 'd rather load up someone else's universe and play another timeline story.

0-1% crafting at most in this game. Crafting creates a compulsion in many gamers (myself included) and can destroy story.  I can't finish Skyrim because I keep crafting and going back to towns to dump inventory, such that it COMPLETELY destroyed the immersion for me. WoW was the same way, and Guild Wars 2 is dangerously close to that for me.

Some people can't handle crafting mixed with intensive story. If people want to craft, there are plenty of games, and heck, real life!, that let you do that.  Star Control has not ever been about crafting, and if you put substantial crafting in, I would avoid the system completely for the sake of immersion in the story, and then feel bad that I'm cheating myself out of content.  Thanks for listening to my perspective!

Why?  What actual benefit do you believe more items would provide?  Especially to the extreme of Diablo's throw-away items?  I'm sorry but I don't understand your thinking.  How is an adventure game anything like a loot-hunting RPG?  Did SC2's very limited number of items produce any negative consequences in its design?

This sounds a lot like a solution looking for a problem, and as mentioned by several posters, that usually ends up hurting the game.  It's obvious you're a type of gamer who likes crafting, and Star Control.  And that translated into your desire to see Star Control have crafting.  I wish game design was as simple as that but it's not.

The important question which must be asked is "does a crafting system make this game better".  You asserted so in your question, but to be blunt "This would really make the game awesome" isn't a satisfactory answer.  The game already has a defined set of core elements, which do not include crafting (Sandbox gameplay doesn't imply a crafting mechanic- note the distinction between gameplay and game mechanic, and that Open World article doesn't even mention it).  Whether they allow for it as an auxiliary element is certainly debatable, but must be done with those core elements in mind.
