Do we call it Star Control (SC)? Stardock's Star Control (SDSC or SSC)? New Star Control (NSC)? New Terran Star Control (NTSC)? ::smirk::
I'm hesitant to call it SC because... What happens when Stardock does a sequel? Will it be SC2? Or do we call the past SC2 Ur-Quan Masters (UQM)?
I'd presonally want something like
"This isn't going to be Star Control 2 in 3D so please stop asking for features that make it that"
But that's a bit long winded

I imagine "StarControl" is enough. When the need for distinction is not derived from context it can be StarControl (Classic) vs StarControl (Reboot)

Also, the player captain will be bald, and the game will measure crew experience based on your first officer's beard.
I think we should name it "Star Control III : Rebirth" and hopefully that will delete the Legendary fiasco from history and our memories.
Also note that Legend's Star Control is called "Star Control 3" making it distinct from Star control III.
Star Control, Didn't you mean to ask about flowers? Edition. Or SCDYMYABF for short, which is also the Spathi word for "small thing which may make a terrifying impact".

Look at the power button of your computer or mac.
It will look like a " U " with an " l " on top.
Turn that 90 degrees clockwise.
Now look at the very top of this page where it says Star Control.
Notice how the 'ontrol' of Control is centred into the C, with the C exaggerated and large.
Well then it looks like Star C-

*In all seriousness* I was wondering this too. Abbreviation will come in handy over the next couple of years. SCR makes sense to me, even if that's just a founder's only forum reference and doesn't make it to the final version.
Anyone else for SCR?

2. Star Control: League of Founders (SC LOF)
3. Star Control: Founders Forum (SC FF)
Named after US! The founders club!!!!
I rather prefer using Star Control: Foundation as it is also a tribute to Isaac Asimov and his Foundation series.
But also it is my hope that this will become a NEW foundation for future series and games of Star Control that can capture the flavor of adventure from the original SC2.
Actually it would be cool to name the game and subsequent ones after the Foundation series.
You could have:
1. Star Control: Foundation
2. Star Control: Foundation and Empire
3. Star Control: Second Foundation
etc.
I think it makes sense for branding purposes that it's just called Star Control, I get it. They want people to feel like they can just pick it up and play it - for the vast majority of people this will be their first time being exposed to star control. We're hoping for a mainstream breakthrough, right? I think there's a ton of potential here as a downloadable title on xbox, etc.
So assuming that, not giving it a subtitle or a number is a great idea. People will jump right in.
That being said, people have been calling it SCR for clarity on the forum and I think that makes sense too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of subtitle that helped differentiate it in the future, but I understand why they might just call it Star Control.
I think it should be called Star Control. Then, the naming scheme for the next several can be "Star Control - The ___ of ______". And each iteration after that could take on a new subtitle, avoiding ever using Star Control II.
OR maybe StarControl.
