Random crashes

I've started playing 2 games of GalCiv2 (just recently purchased it on Steam). It crashed after roughly 20 turns of play both times. After the first time, I followed instructions on Steam forum to uninstall and reinstall from the developer site rather than from the Steam site. It just crashed again.

I have a debug.err file but it's quite long and I can't find a spot to attach files. Here are the last few lines before the crash. I was looking at a new planet and about to build something on it.

\AutoSave.tmp

Is there something I can fix on my computer to make it stop crashing?

I've been having the same problem with my digital download with the game crashing frequently in the first 50ish turns and every so often after that, and I realized a couple things that help:

-My game will crash early on, within the first 50ish turns and I just save every turn.

-If I stop using the F1-F11  hotkeys, the number of times my games crashes drops to almost nothing after those first 50 or so turns.

Consequently, outside of using the Control S for quick saves, I use the mouse-screen interface instead of hotkeys as much as possible to avoid crashes.

Hopefully these steps will help others as they have helped me.

You might want to try running the game in compatibility mode. Windows XP SP3 might work.
