Advent Repulsion - For Oli

After playing a quick 3v3 with Oli the other day, the discussion came around to Advent's Iconus Guardian Repulsion.  Although this same topic is come up again and again, he seemed to have some very different opinions that I knew weren't correct when it comes to countering Repulsion as an Advent player.

1.  Illums are still in range while being repulsed.  FALSE.  Even with fully upgraded beams (meaning a 12% range increase), Illums come no where near to being in range of a Guardian currently using Repulse.  It is well known that Illums have the shortest range of all the lrfs, which does not bode well when it comes to an Advent vs Advent situation.  The picture below shows a Guardian currently using Repulse, with the green Illum being pushed away.  Clearly, it's not in range of the purple Guardian.

2.  Disciple's Steal Antimatter ability is still in range while being repulsed.  FALSE.  The Steal Antimatter ability has about the same range as an Illum's fully upgraded beams, again meaning that it is not in range while being repulsed.  Although when in range it may be useful, all your opponent has to do is use the same tactic, and an endless swapping and replenishing of antimatter ensues.  The picture below demonstrates this exact thing between the green disciple and the purple Guardian.

Oli also talked about using Radiance's Detonate Antimatter, which, although I agree will get the job done, it will in no way be effective against multiple Guardians, seeing as the Radiance itself will not be able to target every Guardian fast enough.  This leaves few counters for an Advent player being harassed by Repulsion.  Either build your own Guardians, or bomber/fighter spam, which even becomes useful later game.  However, in a quick pinch, there are few ways to effectively counter Repulse, meaning you better have the tech already researched just in case your opponent decides to try and pull a fast one on you.

Detonate AM has less range than steal AM, and obviously has the issue that you only have one instance of it at a time...

Steal AM is definitely the best counter of the three you mention...it's not like the targets are instantly teleported backwards, and often guardians spend a lot of time moving in to position before using the ability anyway...I won't say it's a good counter, but it works better than the other two in most situations...

Honestly though, the best counter is the same counter all factions have, which is SC...and you'd want to have SC anyway by that stage of the game regardless of who you are going against...

You forgot akkan and dunov.

Edit: My bad you said only advent.

Magnetize has comparable range to steal AM and detonate AM...in other words, it can work but probably won't...

Ion bolt is pretty decent if you got a quick finger...repulse outranges it slightly but if you use it before fully repelled you are in good shape...most importantly, it's got a quick cooldown...

I actually find it refreshing that for once there isn't a hard counter.

you could also, as advent, get your own repulse and out micro your opponent.  i've done that a few times :)

Again,

Another situational thing because it is highly dependent on Micro. One disruption Matrix and all guardians are surrounded by light frigates and abilities interrupted. A Rebel Vasari Titan can also render them useless as well has an already built Starbase because it will remove 100% of the antimatter when they jump into the gravity well.

Distortion Field also works well from Subverters and Domina's suppression when in range. Its really an issue of scouting and destroying Hostility Temples to cut off Guardian production.

Now I know you're a troll...

To noobs, the proper way to counter repulsion is to use advent star ships as suicide bombers against the guardians. I figured this out a few weeks ago.
