Windows 8.1 update 1 adds a new feature to metro apps. You can right click the app's icon (upper left corner when the app is open) and it will give you the option to split left or split right. When ModernMix is installed this opton is not available. Neil and or other team members could you please take a look at this problem too.

Regards, Winstar4

Wrong thread for this, but I don't believe we impact that at all with ModernMix.  It will not happen when windowed, but that's working as designed.

Neil thanks for your quick response, sorry about the thread. I can start a new one if you prefer. I just reinstalled ModernMix and got the same result. I made a screenshot for you to see. The app (weather) is maximized (not windowed) and still no split option. When ModernMix is not installed the split option is there. I don't do this very often, so if you could tell me where to upload the screenshot so I can add it to my post I would appreciate it.

I ran into the same WindowBlinds problem after the Win8.1 update -- but then, I uninstalled and reinstalled WindowBlinds 8.03 and it works OK, now.

You need to uninstall, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, reboot, then reinstall.

I uninstalled ran Glary Utilities and also CCleaner, then rebooted and reinstalled but did not fix the problem.

If I set desktop to default works if I set desktop to any other skin does not work.

I updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 + Update 1 today. Same issue here now. No context menu showing in metro start screen when using any WindowBlinds skin. I hope this will be fixed soon. :(

Unfortunately there was a small delay in the QA due to other projects, but I have been told we are aiming for a release next week if we can.

Sorry for the delay.

WindowBlinds 8.04 seems to have resolved the problems with Windows 8.1 Update.

Thanks guys!

Alarm! :)

Latest Windows 8/8.1 optional update KB2955164 (05.13.2014) is incompatible with WindowBlinds 8.04! Please fix this, the problem is huge!

After installing the update and restart your computer - desktop is black with only mouse cursor. Only safe mode helps to uninstall update or disable WindowBlinds 8.04 service.

Excuse me for bad English!

Seeing that this update just came out today, you just might want to give the folks some time to look at it.  It would also help them if you either told them what the problem is or showed them with a screenshot.   :sun:

Screenshot: Black Desktop screen with mouse cursor. :) Only CTRL-ALT-DEL works.

Тhe problem is serious !!!

Same here...black screen with cursor, enter safe mode to disable it, when back from safe mode and trying to enable it just makes the screen flash over and over again.

On a sidenote, ive been running WB for some time now...disabling it made everything run alot faster, and I mean everything. And ALOT faster. WB needs optimizing. My system is new, clean and up to date.

What activities were quicker? and how much quicker in actual numbers?

Regarding the update, it is possible Microsoft have messed something up.  We will take a look.

Are you using 64 or 32 bit as in testing on 32 bit everything looks fine with that update.

Using Windows 8.1 64 bit.

Things like loading software, Firefox and Thunderbird did load quicker. IE felt better, more smooth. Photoshop as well. Even iTunes, and I never had that skinned. By quicker I mean a second or two. Not huge numbers, but still, made the system feel quick and nice. Moving windows around the screen feels better, can really feel its smoother.

Guess this is just the price you have to pay if you want things skinned. But after having uninstalled WB I think ill keep the damn Windows 8 look. The system just feels great atm.

There should be no impact what so ever on moving windows around the screen.  Everything is buffered on modern OSes so nothing is redrawing other than giant textures.

Really weird then, I can definitely feel a difference... or is it perhaps the skins themselves, some are heavier on the system then others?

I am pleased to say we have this fixed internally and will aim to push an update out on Wednesday.

Thankfully the OS update was an optional one.  An alternative way to boot would have been to hold down ctrl on login as that disables WB.
