Playing the prototype

Today was a big internal milestone day.  March 27 is definitely going to be the day it goes out to the Founder Elite group.  Though, bear in mind, it is an alpha (not even a beta).

Its not alpha, not even beta?  Does that mean.....  its the gamma quadrant?  :)  Seriously, I think I speak for most of us when i write this:  We are happy to help find bugs, suggest fixes, etc. at whatever stage GalCiv3 is at.

I see no beginning phasers on this ship... sad day. Can't wait to see some goodies on this... could you, you know... upload a bit of gameplay to the founder vault. Even a little tutorial saying this is what you are trying to accomplish at the moment.

Look forward to making this game good.

In the Founder's Vault (once they get it back up and running) now has my prototype feedback. Lots of screenshots and complaints. :)

Is this alpha running on the Oxide/Mantle engine, or is it an upgraded version of the Legendary Heroes engine?

Although it may be in the gamma quadrant, Frogboy didn't say it's not Alpha, he said it is an Alpha (Not even a Beta)  Clue prior to Alpha is the word is and in the () is Not

Per previous posts Galactic Civilizations III is not using Oxide/Mantel engine as that was designed after, and it's using it's own engine.

e the best... :P

Thanks! I must have missed that post. It's too bad though, my APU works great with Starswarm and was hoping GC3 would work as well.

While I'm pretty much an amorphous blob of excitement, I'm very disappointed the single production que. There should be two; one for ships, one for improvements.

Try to reserve judgement on the queue.  It plays pretty well in practice.

I'll do so, but only for you and this game <3

I'm straight-up renaming the survey ship NX-01.

Looking forward to it.

Hoping it brings back memories of the old OS/2 game.

If we get united industry, then we will be able to build stuff faster. Not bad exchange, IMHO. No longer need to adjust sliders between military and social.

But of course, you much more experienced in this game than I am. ;)

I also liked the dual production queue and the production focus feature and everything in Galciv 2. It sets the game appart from most other 4x.

But I guess It might be argued that it is a lot of micromanagement for not much real strategic value. Still, I am quite comfortable with the dual queue/slider system and it makes the game feel more "organic" and less like, say, a board game or something.

But ill save judgment for later too ;)

Sad to see only one production queue. Oh well, I'll wait to play it for final judgment.

I think, being that it will be an Alpha build when we get this, we should reserve judgment until after to RTM (Release to Market) build is done. :) It's looking good and excited to be in the beginning level as I was with each and every Galactic Civilization that was released.

I reserve judgement when I get to see the thing in action from the alpha. Waiting for the RTM version would mean that it cannot be changed thereafter.

The idea is that you get a build que per colonized planet and so from the abstract point of view you get multiple build ques per star system. Can't wait to see this come to a head.

Wonder if there will be build ques on starbases to build small ships...

I'd recommend d waiting until Beta before judging.

The UI looks a lot worse than GC2.In GC2 you had a whole side devoted to planet overview. In that pic I see 6 planets max which means a lot of extra fiddling

The mini map is huge. With a strategic view who uses it much anway?

We shall see how it develops.

Here is an exemple of how Dual production queue is a great feature.

"Oh noes! The Evil Drengin just DOW on me and are coming with legions of ships. I need to shift to military production to counter them."

This scenario happened to me in my current galciv2 game.  With dual production queue, I just adjusted the sliders. I put the social production to 5% and concentrated on research and ship building. It took 2 sec to do as most of my planets are already building warships.

Now with a single queue you would need to manually change production in all your planets, quite Tedious.

The more I think about it, the dual queue is a good idea and is part of what I like about GalCiv2. I am 100% convinced that taking the dual queue out of Galciv2 would make it a lesser game.

Not saying the game Cannot be good without dual queue, but I like this feature.

Wow, I wasn't even aware that this was on the horizon. Been quite some time since I've played GC2. Will definitely have to check this one out and see if it draws me back in.
