Breaking Peace Treaties

I've been doing some Google searches but can't seem to find the answer to my question...

In my current game, I had two Races that had declared war on me and I was getting my butt kicked. I was finally able to push back by researching some defensive techs, but then they both offered peace treaties which I accepted. I know I can declare war on the races to break the treaty, but then I suffer from a "we dont trust you" penalty from all other races.

Is there a way to avoid this penalty? Is there a minimum number of turns to wait?

Is the penalty permanent or do races eventually trust you again?

Breaking a peace treaty will only make the race you had it with no longer trust you. Only breaking the economic and research treaty will stop everybody from trusting you.

If you wait a year or so, it might be enough for them to not consider this a break of the treaty, but I'm not entirely sure. Usually, when I declare war it's permanent (until one side is gone), so there is no chance for a peace treaty (no matter how much they beg for it).

However, if you goad them into declaring war on you, you can avoid all of this. Just park some of your ships (especially troop transports) close to their planets, and they will declare war soon enough.

It's permanent.

Ah! That's why, I also have economic and research treaties too. Is there anyway to break those without penalty? Would I just follow your same suggested tactic and goad them into declaring war?

That's the only way I know of.

One possible exception is to declare war on a different race, but one that either has the super ability that gets others to declare war on those that attack/declare war with them, or have extremely good relations with them.  For example, in DA, if anyone declares war on the Altarians, the Drath will generally declare war in support of the Altarians.
