MP players are douches

Hello all,

I've been a big fan of this game since it first came out and have played it all throughout from the original, entrenchment, diplomacy and finally rebellion. Most of the time I just played SP against AI but started playing MP during trinity 2 years ago more or less. Ever since then I got slowly turned off by the MP community and have stopped playing the game and then returning to it after forgetting the general douchebaggery I experienced at MP games and then leaving again after getting turned off ad infinitum.

Usually I wouldn't rant here due to having other games to fall back to but this takes the cake. Since I am more or less a casual MP player due to time constraints I never got to know anyone in the MP community other than playing a game or two with them so I usually get kicked out of a game lobby after joining one because they usually are waiting for friends to play with and not some random guy. This one time however really made me angry. It's just your garden variety 5v5 game and I joined it. Cue 40 minute wait the game is full and we were all ready to play and then suddenly one guy said he has friends that wants to join and then they kicked off the two newbs(me and some guy and before anyone points out the game was just a plain "5v5" and not any variation of "5v5 skilled") and then started immediately after we got kicked. After than there weren't any MP games I can join due to low player count on ICO. Of course this has happened to me before more or less in the past but this is the last straw for me.

I recommend you host your own games for "casual multiplayer" on smaller maps. Not only can you not get kicked, but most of the skilled players leave such games alone so you get people more like you.

I agree, people shouldn't get kicked if the game does not say "skilled".  What you should do is identify yourself to the game host as someone who played online PvP in the earlier versions of the game and thus not a "box noob".

Hosting own games is a problem, especially when there is a 5v5 at the other room and because he is not known people may not join his game if there is absolute low numbers, and people number is slowly decreasing who plays this game (as I noticed).. And kicking someone from a simple 5v5 is a very lame thing just because some friend arrived, and you waited like half an hour to get finally kicked. Best you can do is indicate how good are you, people don't like players that are so stupid, that they cannot even colonize the asteroid next to them (AND many noobs are like this, I saw it many times), with saying what level AI you have defeated on smaller maps, Unfair AI is a required thing (if nothing else, Hard, just to be sure you can play this game), as a human will be harder opponent in efficiency (if you get a non-noob as opponent), but it can be a good start and host may not kick you this way. People are afraid of noobs that purchased the game 1 day ago and show no respect for the community, they go online and join even skilled games (why the f*ck would anyone do this? they don't even know how to move units properly, I will never understand..), although they don't even know how to beat a Hard AI, or how to colonize the planets next to them instead of upgrading the homeplanet to maximum before moving out, no scouting, no idea of ship counters, brutal starter capital ship choice (sometimes the weakest ones), as these players will be eradicated in 10 minutes without resistance and may give the other team huge advantage from then on.

If you talk to guys there it shouldn't hurt anyone, and you may be accepted better into that game, so they will know better how good are you, and you will not ruin your game.

Many of the above statements are only valid if you know some basic online strategies and not play like a total noob (I assume you are not one).

I hate people that just play for the victory. I am allways trying new ship tactics and stuff and all i hear about is ship counters and all that BS.  No i dont blob a buncha lrm frigates together and no im not going to make a whole buncha anti fighter frigated to fight your swarm im more apt to say fuck you your a newb playing just to be a dick. Weres the tactical capability of loads of ships just swarming?

Well its hard to break into a small multiplayer community, but please think about the other side of the coin. Imagine waiting for 30 mins then finally gettting a game started only for a complete newbie or a blank 0/0 account not to colonize any planets making the game 5v4 from the off. People rightly or wrongly are wary of newcomers and the time commitement this game requires enforces that point even more. I hope you can understand it from their/our point of view.

Things that WILL help you prevent being kicked from 5s:

- wisper host not to kick you explaning your situation

- host your own game, make friends, get known

- When you play vs AI or whatever do it on ICO for stats. Even though stats arent important in this game they at least show your experience.

- Play smaller games, 1v1 2v2 3v3 ffa etc..

- Ask on forums with your ICO nick so you wont get kicked by hosts who read the forums.

- Have a better attitude, i dont know you personally or anything about you, but u do come across somewhat self-entitled in your post.

Feel free to use or ignore my advice.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take heed of it. Also how to change my ICO nick? Because I'm used to my trinity style login because I didn't buy it via steam nor connected it to steam unlike my rebellion game. Also for getting myself known I don't do that. I just play SoaSE for one thing and one thing only to play a 4X RTS and not make friends. I'll probably remember the names of the good players I've met but other than that I ignore people unless talked to.

I assume we are talking about rebellion through steam here as i have experience with the older expansions and as far as i know there are no/very few multiplayer online games going on them.

You can change your ICO at any point under player setting on the left hand side after logging into ICO. As its a steam game your profile will always be linked to your steam account, but you can change the nick as many times as you want although it wont reset any stats.

I am online quite often these days so feel free to join my games or games im in and at the very least you wont get kicked ( as long as you know how to colonize your roid and dwarf at the beginning of the game :P)

dont be jalous.. those days are long gone but what helps is to know that i survived having to defend myself as a lan player and now im an ico player at last. I don't have to prove anything anymore and just enjoy the game.

Except that.....no one plays ICO anymore...

ICO died for me when I found out playing mods over it causes a desync about 500 milliseconds in.

I've never actually had an issue playing mods over ICO except finding people to do it.

What is your ico name? I have many "contacts" and I may be able to explain your situation to them and thus prevent you from being "kicked" from "5s" games.

I  love "quotation" marks.

I personally have had issues, and Lavo_2 has reported a few as well.

It's not cause one of you as error reporting on and the other doesn't, is it?

If you mean the "showErrors" line in the .setting file, then no.  I don't know what other error reporting Sins has.

What is this "error?"

The reason is your kicking everyone off games.

I only play steam friends... no im not telling you my steam name. I find 5v5 ridiculously feed frenzy and can't measure a players true skill
