Sins: Rebellion ICO Server Testing (Test Completed)

Greetings players!  We've put up a newer version of the ICO server for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that has some improved logging output.  This will hopefully make it easier to track down any strange issues that get reported relating to the ICO service.

However, we need some testing on this before it becomes mainstream for all users. For any who are interested in helping us out, you can modify your rebellion.user.setting file as outlined below to use the test server instead.

  1. Be sure to have v1.1 of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion installed and have run it at least once.
  2. Open Windows Explorer to:  Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting
  3. Open rebellion.user.setting with Windows Notepad.
  4. Find the line that says IcoServerPort.  Change this value from 8000 to 6100.
  5. Save the file.

When you start Sins: Rebellion next, you will use the test ICO server when you go onto Ironclad Online. To switch back to the regular server, just reverse the change above.

Keep in mind that if you use the Steam overlay to invite a friend to play, you must both be on the test server. ;)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Just tried a quick 1v1 on it. Guess I'll try to get the gang together.

Soooo...much space...

Well we ran a game without incident. I wasn't around for the second one the crew started though. We'll give it another shot tonight.

Indeed, compared to the normal server this one works much more smoothly if not more stable. I'm guessing that's because no one else is on it, so if you're doing arranged games with friends this is the server to be on. ;)

I'll possibly be able to hop on tomorrow.

Well from what we've been able to determine so far ... (correct me if I'm wrong) ... the new server works awesome.

We don't know if its the server or the lack of people on in though. ;)

But how many people would it take to make a difference?  I do recall a MD (or DC, don't remember) in a 1v1 match on a slow night with very few people, maybe 20 or 30 online, so I'm not entirely convinced the number of people is the real issue...

Well, we do know that Goa has the occasional DC due to his own connection at home, not neccesarily due to the ICO server. I haven't seen or heard of mass DC, MD, or DS issues yet ...

It sounds like they have more logging in this ICO build which may make it easier to track down the issues being reported, atleast that's what it sounds like to me...

The comments here are interesting and I'll tell you why:  The test ICO is running on the same VM as the existing.  This seems to indicate that there's no hardware issue involved.

If anyone does encounter a disconnect on the test ICO, please let us know the date and time (preferably in Eastern time) it happened so we can check the logs.

Goa, roughly what time was that DC you had last? Was that Friday night the 30th?

Yes but that wasn't the server, I lost my entire internet connection. ;)

Banana pudding is good... but brownies are better.

Thanks to those who helped us out with this.  We've finished initial testing so this test server will be taken down later today.

When I did log in server was abandoned .....

You'll want to reset your ICOServerPort to 8000 so that you're back with the regular group.

I take it the testing will begin on the normal server soon?

Aye, though other than a restart, folks shouldn't notice anything different.
