Argh! Pirates! (Diplomacy)

Anyone think the pirates are overpowered?

As i approach late game - a pirate attack was launched at one of my most defended planets, i laughed at them and ignored them. Then 10 minutes later, the pirates kill the colony, blow through a Full-starbase (Max Hangar, Hull and weapons) - and 20 Guass cannons and 4 repair platforms.

The pillagers have ridiculous amount of health, they're range covers a third of the gravity well and snipes my starbase, they have more armor than starbases and lvl 10 cap ships. On top of that, almost all pirate ships have nearly 100 attack power including their Garda's which wiped all my bombers. what??

To further emphasise the pirates craziness, in another situation, i had placed a starbase with only trade port upgrades at a Gas Giant world. The starbase was there only to generate money, so a few pillagers fly past it and the starbase dies...

The pirate base guass cannons each are like mini-starbases, i got pissed off at pirates so i sent a massive fleet (1600~ fleet supply worth)at them with about 8 lvl 10 capships, 6 of them were Marza Dreadnoughts with Missile barrage, i had to use 6 simultaneous missile barrage to wipe them out. And then it took about another 15 minutes to kill the platforms using my 30 Orgrovs and 80 bomber squadrons (i kept fleet at the edge) - Note the bombers kept dying and in the end and i lost a lvl 10 Marza (despite having 30 Hoshikos out and about), i just sent my whole fleet to kill the rest and i Razed the planet.

So again, anyone else agree pirates are crazy? Their versions are 4x to 5x even up to 6x more powerful than the TEC counterpart. I noticed that pirates gradually become stronger, do they stop at some point?

Diplo version?

The Pirates were at one point grossly overpowered after enough raids, but they got toned down in more recent updates.

In a long enough game yes the pirates can get a we bit over powered. Its rare they get that far though.

I remember old Diplomacy times :) crazy pirates and stuff, the key is never let pirates attack you late game or destroy them midgame before their defenses get extremely powerful. I forgot to destroy them many times and late game I was throwing fleets after fleets to get rid of them. As a TEC just blew the crap out of it with 2 NOVALITHS, I don't know why you didn't do this you had the resources for fleets than it would be cheaper to kill them sneakily with two warheads simultaneously and voilá no pirate raids :) Does it worth the pain to get that planet from these aggressive brutal pirates when they are so overpowered: Most times no, maybe just for your entertainment.

As it was said before me in Rebellion they got weaker in a great amount, but they are still a threat, but not invincible after some hours.

Ah yes, i remember the Novaliths, but the pirate base was kinda smack in between me, my only ally and an enemy Vasari AI - i could go around it, but it would take longer and trade ships kept flying through it (and AI envoys). The Vasari AI made their own phase lines and didn't have to travel through it. (It was a random generated map so it wasn't particularly balanced.)

You can do nothing against trade ships killing themselves or AI ally stupidly wasting resources trying to throw envoys at you, it is a problem in Rebellion too, where even discovering everything is a painful process because of the fighters at the pirate base, and stupid scouts always want to make their life end in no time, they can't seem to be able to avoid the base on automatic exploration, because on random maps it is always put in the middle between me and the enemy of mine, hard to go around it. Still the best idea is to eradicate them before they get crazy, even if you have a somewhat stronger enemy, the base is a good addition to economy and capitalship XP, and on random maps many times a key position.

I play with pirates disabled. You can't even really bribe them: they were supposed to attack another player and then took over one of my planets.
