The Map Pack is coming

The Map Pack is coming

image

Very soon we plan to release the very first Map Pack for Elemental: Fallen Enchantress.  In addition to a new hand crafted map for every map size along with new stamps to spice up random map generation, it also includes the full Anthys map. A gigantic map that contains the entire known world of Elemental (at least, as of ~150 AC).

Heh, I rather like the difference between the reactions in this thread (where you're actually showing stuff off) and the '2 Weeks' thread where you announced the map pack. Very, very different tones.
i'm sure the addition of map Stamps and the inclusion of a huge canon map with naval ships had something to do with the change in tone :)

You already had my $5, but ships sounds awesome.  Will they be something we have to research, or will they just be like goodie huts that move us across the water?  Will the modders will be able to use this feature?

And speaking for those of us that like really longggggggggggg games, the bigger the map the better!

Can someone explain what map stamps are?

Stamps are basically sections of a map, smaller areas. They are used in map generation. Think of them like pieces of a puzzle. Wildlands are also using these stamps to have a pre-determined look.

You guys are thinking in terms of other games. In FE we will be making stamps, not maps. We will make tons of stamps that are patched together to make the whole map. Sure you might make a copy of some map from MoM if you really wanted to pay homage, but the most fun will be had by adding more unique stamps. The thing we need the devs to do is make sure the starting postion stamps are fair and equal. And to make sure that resources and monsters are also equal.

How many factions will the Anthys map be able to comfortably accommodate on the Huge setting?

This is a game about world domination, uniting the world under the rule of the benevolent leader whose iron fist has crushed the life out of all opposing factions. There can only be one answer to this question:  one, and only one, faction can be comfortably accommodated on even the largest maps available.

A restatement of a quote you might recognize:  "There can only be one Lord of Anthys, and he does not share power."

On a more serious note? Probably, all eight factions, and then some. If you enlarge the map and look at it, you can see about 30 (possibly more) cities on the Eastern continent alone.

This is great news! Map generation is what I think needs the most work right now. I would really like to see more choke points and defined territories, with less square areas and bigger lakes. But if that cannot or will not be done, I am glad some hand crafted ones will be made.

I have to ask the question, how would you use a map pack in a game with randomly generated maps and set scenarios?

Fantastic! I will buy it.

Stamps as well? Now you have my attention.

I'm someone (one of few I feel sometimes) that quite enjoy DLC's. I think it's a neccessary feature to keep content fresh and the hype from the game up. I will admit that a map pack doesn't thrill me all that much, but I will buy it to support you guys. The job you have done with this game, as a re-make, how it's delivered, the communication you've kept with your community and the overall quality and replayability of the game is just fantastic. Easily one of my favorite games.

As said, I will buy this DLC to simply support you (and will naturally play the maps since I bought them anyway), but I do hope you consider some of the suggestions given in this thread as to future DLC content. I would be wastly more interrested in seeing new civs, new techs, new rare resources (super unique lizard mount for troops? Yes please), new quests, wildzones and events. I expect a few of these will be coming in the expansion, but why not give a little in advance. Possibly look into vastly unique civs that don't use any of the same methods as the other civs?

Whatever it is, you guys got my trust so I will be buying all your stuff <3

I need this map so much!

another thing I'd quite enjoy is better graphics for the various terrain, they desperately need to look more diverse imho. plains look just like desert, rugged also doesn't look unique enough. way too much light brown on the map at the moment!

So... wait... This is DLC? We have to pay extra for this? I assumed it was making up for the fact that there are only 6 or so maps included with the game, and thus was free.

The game has an EXTREMELY robust random map generator, and user created maps available as well.  The reason to buy this DLC is to support the company, gain access to the huge continental map, and some new stamps for randomization in the generator.

I love me some lore map.Are starting positions random or based on lore?

Where will we be able to buy this DLC anyways? I did not buy FE in Steam, I got it for free, and WoM was on Impulse, but i am not sure if my FE would register in there...

Does Stardock Central have a buying system or will I have to buy it elsewhere?

I am also interested in hearing if Anthys is larger than the biggest possible one, it certainly seems so.

EDIT: I fail to see any wildlands in Anthys too... Can't we have like Imperium where it should be and such?

Also, that map looks big enough to hold a good amount of wildlands if not all. :P

They already gave the game away for free to some people, don't need to give content too. I want this company to make money so they will keep making more great content. If you just keep getting stuff for free it means they will go bankrupt and you will never get anything from them again.

Very very different audiences. The other thread draws all the FE players, this one just  mostly draws the ones with an interest in the map pack.

Okay, I retract my statement about not being as interested in map packs -- I'll definitely purchase this DLC.

When you say this map is gigantic, how big are we talking?

Also, are larger sizes for randomly generated maps a thing that can happen?

I'm not sure how big it is exactly.  But it's bigger than any map I've ever seen in WOM or FE.  If you don't have a 64-bit system, it might be tricky.  I've been trying to find ways to shave down texture sizes and other tricks this weekend for 32-bit users but the size of this map is just..well mind boggling.

Fb, will you press for multiplayer DLC if I buy this one?
