Titans are killing SoaSE

Titans are killing SoaSE

I've played a few games of Rebelllion yesterday. Game is still fundamentally broken. Issues like Wail are fairly easy to fix, biggest problem in my opinion are titans.

Why titans ruin the gameplay:

  1. AoE too powerful. Ruins late game counter chain and dumbs game down to mindless carrier spamming.
  2. Survivability too high at levels past 4-5.
  3. They're easy to rebuild. Player who has been pretty much beaten can pull lv5 titan out of his ass. No, it's not a good thing.
  4. 1v2,1v3 vs decent players is now near unmanageable. 2 titans beat 1 titan, period.
  5. Suicide spot survival used to be one of cool aspects of the game. Now its just frustrating for reasons stated above.
  6. Killing a titan doesn't give much benefit. In diplo one won battle often meant rolling all of the opponents planets. Now you often don't even have time to bomb 1. This creates stalemate situations.

Fixes:

  1. Nerf all AoE hard
  2. Nerf HP/armor increase with level
  3. Titans should lose XP on death
  4. Titans should only be built on volc/ice/desert/terran planets designated as capital
  5. Shift titan role from AoE/damage to buffing/debuffing fleets.

It's been said a million times... but since player count is now down to ~100 from 300 during peak hours, it clearly wasn't said enough.

PS: please don't paste guy beating the dead horse pic.

If you want to change that, just remove titans all together and add in another capital ship class that's more powerful and more expensive and takes longer to build.

My only problems with Titans are you only get one at a time and as soon as they get a couple levels they eat frigates for breakfast.  Everything else such as a separate target filter, requiring a special factory, immunity to capital disables, requiring two capital crews, different leveling, and new armor and weapon classes is completely awesome.  I'd much rather see two smaller, weaker Titans leading a late-game fleet that a player has to be worried about losing instead of one unstoppable juggernaut of destruction that the entire battle is centered on.

People would have to learn to retreat, and the issue of feeding a Titan knowing that if you do lose it you will be right back to where you were will go away.

Haven't lost a titan due to the game's shitty pathfinding, I take it?

Took you this long to figure that out? :P

You just want me to tag along in your endless trolling. I won't and don't be jalous that i play real people and beat the shit out of them. Why? Cause i have the ballz to say i suck and work to get better at something.

Heres a scenario:

Team Game: 5v5

Your in a suicide spot..

A player from the other team gets feed and builds a titan...

You get rampaged and die because your feed for your titan went to another team member...

Whats wrong in this scenario?...

If you figure it out and give me the solution then you and me can have a serious conversation. Right now it sounds like you are just trolling.

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

F* it i don't think you can come up with the solution anyway so im going to tell you:

Stop playing big team games because the game now the game has 2 super weapons.. mobile super weapons!

How do you expect to even beat those odds.. Repeat after me..

"mobile super weapon!"

"mobile super weapon!"

"mobile super weapon!"

"mobile super weapon!"

5v5 means the guy with the best feed wins.. lol, the irony hahahahahaa(evil laugh) ..

Usually i hide behind repair platforms and count drone hosts.

in a 2v2 or 1v1:

10 drone hosts= 1 level 1 titan dead

20 drone hosts with caps will kill and rampage you before you can build your next titan. Forget disabling the bombers with hanger defense because steal anti-matter will just screw your hangers up. How to beat this.. Push push push and repulse lol.

advent ftw

I was killed by a titan just this morning.  I was on my way to work and when I hit the highway exchange it was hiding behind an advertising billboard and caught me by surprise.

How I hate those damn titans.

my intention is not to give you a bad case of grammar and spelling mistakes but to highlight the most obvious thing--titans don't like noobs , they feed off your team games and spoil the whole thing.

Guys, guys, don't get your hopes up.  Remember, the game is only built so single player people have even more OP ways to kill a braindead AI.

I used to play Sins but stopped once Rebellion came out. Rebellion is a massive disappointment. It was really only out of curiousity that i came here, to see what changes the devs had made.

In my opinion Titans ruined the game. Titans are a nice idea but they should not be limited to one, they should not retain their levels and they should be built later in the game.

I know for my above post im going to get called a "troll" but i purchased the game so i'm exercising my right to voice my opinion. Perhaps if the devs had listened to people's opinions there would be more players now. I played the origional game for hundreds of hours and was the reason 5 friends bought the game but the way things are now, the game just isn't as much fun.

The funny thing is during the games announcement there was a voting poll about what people were more excited about.. Most people voted for titans lol.

Play 1v1 and 2v2 and you will start to enjoy the game. If you play big games then you may as well say no titans allowed because someone is bound to get feed and get it within minutes.

Well duh....

It empower us SP people. Especially us Modder SP people as we build uber Titans to crush the wimpy AIs as they cry sobbing in the corner.

We enjoy it better then beating a noob with vanilla titans.

Hummmm how about nerfing titans hard and making them like, 1 every 4 planets like super weapons?

titans are awesome.

noobs crying is wrong

player vs player > Sp

....is always right so quit bitching about it... im all lan and 1v1, 2v2. If you don't like it then sue me.

My experience of 1v1 so far (far fewer games than 5v5) is that it is most likely to turn into a stalemate with fleet, Titan, and Starbases camped at chokepoints. 1v1 random map usually has 1, maybe 2 chokepoints and the game is 100% about securing those first. Novaliths, Wail, and Vasari jumping then win the game. Culture comes in as distant 4th factor. 5v5 seems more dynamic.

I agree...1v1s become all about the map and as such luck becomes a greater factor...there is still lots of skill but starting positions (hell, even the location of your starting frigate factory) can make or break the game for you independent of your skill level...

Well, I was serious about opening up capital ship abilities. As you say a capital ship that can affect a titan is balanced by the fact it can be easily killed late game. I don't see the issue with adding more anti-titan options to the game. In fact Vasari already had some of this capability with the Vasari Egg being able to stop a Titan from phase jumping.

Here's my thoughts on your #'d points...

  1. Nerf all AoE hard
I tend to agree with this statement. The general problem with AOE damage is they tend to cause more damage due to the Shield Mitigation mechanic in the game. Abilities like Chastic Burst, Scattershot, Explosive Shot, Missile Barrage, Meteor Strike all have the potential to hit infinite targets at minimum mitigation.

I have ideas how the abilities could be rebalanced/tweaked slightly but maintain their flavor. I just don't think any changes are forthcoming so don't care to throw out ideas anymore.
  1. Nerf HP/armor increase with level
I don't know... Seems the AOE thing is a bigger issue.
  1. Titans should lose XP on death
My idea was Titans would lose XP on death but could be purchased up to previous level after it was built. Basically you'd get the purchase level button like for capital ships. This would give players time to take out a newly constructed titan before it could finish purchasing it's previous levels. Plus the level purchase would take quite a bit of time and resources if it was high level when it died.

Not going to happen as they chose to implement an upfront cost increase on rebuilds.
  1. Titans should only be built on volc/ice/desert/terran planets designated as capital
Don't see much point in this one.
  1. Shift titan role from AoE/damage to buffing/debuffing fleets.

In a manner of speaking I'm ok with this philosophy. This can actually be done with the current AOE set by toning down their damage and emphasizing the secondary effect or adding one if not present. Another option is adding target caps for things like Maw or nano leach.

Your just jalous you can't troll the way i do or make a thing out of giving genuine insults. Nice try but could you hit me with something stronger because I think its going to be awesome...

Does this mean you finally stopped playing Mecha or have you decided to bitch about all your insecurities about titans and corvettes?

I'd just like to add that im very depressed and wish i could bitch about everything about this game that annoys me. I really need you to back me up on my self destructive views because i think its going to be awesome..

With modding you can make the AI pretty good, still doesn't hold a candle to real humans, but not half bad. I've gotten my ass handed to me by good AIs, multiple times, in SoGE.

Though I do wonder why abilities like the Maw have no target cap; that's rather absurd.

Jumping Starbases -still killing the game.  Needs to be upgrade on individual starbase.

Capitals that excel at disabling/debuffing capitals should have those abilities boosted to affect titans.

No titan level retention.  Titans have starbase-like upgrades, so why not allow 4 levels to be bought?

Starting Titan research at higher tier would make them mid/late and give the other ships some playtime.

You can use superweapons vs home planet, so why not give an ability that hits titans acting as homeplanet?
