Seanw3's Let's Play Beta 4 [.95]

I have been working on some new videos of the new beta. This time around the focus in the early game is centered on character development instead of grand strategy. I love it, but some may not understand how to manage the early game now that it is different. The change is subtle, but now exploration is the key to success. You have to go out into the wastes and find resources, take on quests. Kill what you can and run from anything you can't is a good rule of thumb. The video starts a few turns in after I had the presence of mind to start recording. What you may have missed is me finding my early heroes and wiping out some easy baddies. I explored a little, soloing my two heroes with great care. When the video starts I have found the limits of that strategy and regroup in order to take on harder monsters. You will notice that my city seems to take care of itself. There is not alot of micromanagement in the early game, just some really important choices.

This was interesting to watch. Just wanted to say that I am pretty sure accuracy doesn't effect magical staves, they always hit. So get ironskin or something.

I think that is not the case, because my units have "dodged" staff attacks multiple times.

Staff attacks are the exact same as bow attacks. They also are affected by ranged dodge. I did a staff mod awhile back that confirms this.

Thats funny, I guess the fact that I never build any until late game when I have all the possible boosts to new units makes a big difference in accuracy.

I'm still watching #4 but in case you haven't figured it out yet putting soldiers in your cities reduces unrest. Also, you can use focus in melee combat, its a cheap way to get extra damage on your first hit if you time it right.

Do trained units? I thought it was only heroes and only by 5%.

Yeah i meant champions but you were wondering why the city you captured went from more production than your capital to less.

Thanks. I learned that at some point during video 5 I think. Been reading more code than playing now. There are alot of bugs in the improvements file.  :omg:

Sean, as always you've made a great series of Let's Play here.  Very enjoyable to watch and listen.  I was totally unaware of the depth present in this game.

I hope that you've been able to compile a bug list and a suggestion list to go along with this fine work.  I would love to see just about every tweak you've suggested be implemented.

I understand you're modding as well.  I would love to see what you come up with!

I am sad to say this, but the save games for this series just got corrupted. I blame the current economic situation. On the bright side, I will begin anew with a save from my current balance mod game. Since Frogboy is looking for strategies and tactics, this particular game will be the most relevant.

I believe the game is at about turn 200. I am playing as Pariden and have a research and magic orientated nation. I am currently at war with the vile and aggressive Yithril, who have the highest faction power. Should offer some interesting situations.

Yeah I wanted to do a let's play but decided not to until the corruption gets fixed. It boring to play against one AI unfortunately.

It's too bad Obama hasn't done more to help our struggling economy.  He and the Democrats had their chance for two years.  Now we're stuck with a hung Congress.  It's time for the stagnant economy and save corruption to stop.  I'm going to vote for Mitt Romney to lead this country and Stardock out of the quagmire.

Your mic seems really odd, is it just me or is there some scratching noise? :S

But you probably noticed anyways, still thanks for doing this, its really good that your doing this... (Doing new strategies in a modded version seems counter-productive).

And jeeses you made attunement op O_o

I think that, just possibly, Sean was being droll in his comment about the "current economic situation," above.

Sean, I also noticed that Flame Dart has the one turn cooldown: an excellent idea, in my opinion.  And the improvements to combat AI are very good indeed, though more remains to be done.  I'd especially like to see a group of units gang up on a single enemy, where now several are inclined to hang back.

Fine series of yours.  I look forward to more from your next series, in the near future.

It does so too in the vanilla game, 0.95... When I cast it any-ways.
I appreciate alot of Seans ideas, I just think he values some things to lowly when I look at his content :S

This is the vanilla game change to Fire Dart he's commenting upon.  It's midway through his Let's Play II, above. ;)

Hmm id love to play the stuff before I comment like that (sorry I get off strong, bad day). Where do I grab it? :D
Saw in another thread some of your theory behind your changes, so that makes me figure you also changed monsters, and meaby all the other stuff. While the Tarth ability seems really powerful now, if you boosted all the other factions starting game too it might be different.

That is why I am testing Tarth right now. I played them a little in the vanilla and it seemed desperately weak. Now they are a little too strong with all that bow power. So I will nerf them slightly. Of course all the other factions are more powerful now too. The strongest factions are Magnar and Resoln in mod overall. Resoln now has some really strong monsters to fill their ranks. Magnar of course are the best at large and powerful armies early on. If only the AI knew how to use them right. That is why I am going to increase the AI's bonus to economy by another 15% or so to be more competitive. Maybe an extra 10% research as well. Once they get started building armies it's not that bad, but with all these early game monsters they can't really keep up.

I don't want to release anything right now to the public until after the update on Thursday. This mod will be more fun with the new AI changes anyhow.
