Multiplayer Noob Feedback

Played Sins vanilla way back and decided to pick Rebellion up during the steam sale.

I really like the game and I wanted to provide some feedback on the multiplayer aspect for a noob viewpoint in case the devs care to improve the experience.

1 - Multiplayer tutorials - would really help highlight key points to a noob going into MP, which as we know is very different to solo play.  Stuff like the "eco" role needs to be explained somewhere, it makes sense once u think about it but truly new players would not just automatically know this.  It would also help to have a pre-requisite training mission where you are introduced to pointers that are key to the beginning play... e.g. what capital is usually most useful, your role on the team depending on start position, the best first few ships and techs so that you aren't gimped going into mid game.  I know this is not easy, but right now there is nothing.

2 - Matchmaking - I have been booted for not having high enuff played ratio (which is fair enuff because the folks in the game want a good expert game) - but it's not right to have someone wait for twenty minutes or more for your game to fill up then kick you.  There should be a noob queue system so that folks that don't mind playing with other noobs, just press a button and get auto queued.  Auto queued would also get around the other issue I saw where a host wants to stack experienced players on his side and just stomp the noobs.  Both these situations lead to the new player not having much fun or even learning much = not queuing again = less peeps playing multiplayer.

I really like Sins but i think the multiplayer experience for a noob really holds it back in terms of player numbers.  I think the depth of strategy is so much better than SC2 but SC2's matchmaking system is amazing.  What I am talking about above is not because I dont like to learn.. i do, but the MP system currently strongly favors experienced players and discourages new players.  That is fine if that is the only crowd this game is for, i'm not sure if that is the case but i thought I would share my experience.

Good points but unfortunately the game was developed with MP as something of an afterthought so its features are pretty primitive. The developers were not interested in really promoting it as a MP game with a full suite of MP features. Perhaps because most Sins players are SP focused. It was a lost opportunity in my opinion. There are still enough newish players online though to get into MP - just join or host games focused for that. All you can do is use forum threads and stickied articles here to learn as much as you can and then contribute what you can when playing MP. I'd suggest to keep trying to find 5v5 games where the host allows a couple new players and wants to make balanced teams - they aren't that uncommon but I know it can take it a while on some days.

I think you are totally wrong. Sins Rebellion was developed for the multiplayer.

However, the devs knew the game was going to be more appealing to the solo gamer. The multiplayer is a bit frantic. I worked my way into the pro group and accept my standing at the bottom of the barrel with pride. Its fun multiplayer but many of the games do not develop properly because of the terrifying rush techniques these guys employ. Keep at it. The game is fun and I never played the multiplayer of the original even though I was told it was good. The 5vs5 still lasts about 2 hours and in a good one, its worth the frustration of the other one or two that didnt go quite the way you wanted it.

A no rush timer would be intereting. But the pros would all be sporting brand new shiny Titans within 5minutes while your still driving a Corvette. Try some of the slower games. 2vs2 or ffa or vs ai there are always a few of them and more people waiting for games than you see in the lobby. I think they just multitask until they know a competitive game is starting (logging on and off of ICD).

I've never seen true "pros" stacking a team, most of them cry out since it's dead boring to beat a dead donkey with a stick.

There are however "pro" players about now who do not kick noobs from the game. They believe that teaching the young ones will help the game.

They believe right..

Believe in me. For i am Red.

Yeah the game improves with balanced teams. The "real" game occcurs when you have the  time to zoom in and watch the fleets battle around the stars.

Odd numbers of noobs in multiplayer is hard to balance out. My first whoopin from an ai was a realization that going Battlestar Galactica doesnt cut it when you cost your team an entire faction.

You must believe in yourself and be a stubborn Sonofa to really last in soase multiplayer.

You must lose your ego with your early losses, to be regained later with your constant theoretical victories.

Having ego after say 10 games(and losing most) is a sign that your skill and your perception of your skill don't equal.

Try to get them to equal, and realistically set goals to "beat player X", or "learn strategy X".

Study replays to give yourself fast game experience with the added plus of fast forward.

Learn how to use time wisely.

And most of all new players, LEARN HOW TO COUNTER A RUSH!

Its easy, build fleet, then if they attack you, defend your HW with turrets/repairs while still building fleet.

You can do this and win with a standard economy.

While you do it, you must ensure that your opponent isn't getting a better economy.

And that, isn't always easy.

:)

Nonsense. First to defeat Greg in a 1v1 match to force him to reveal all of his personal information that we really don't care about gets 5 karma! k5 ;P

I need some advice abaut late and mid-game ship composition.

I know it depends to what your enemies building. But at least you may say what counters what. I start with LF and then i start to build corvettes. So at the early game stage i got at least 15-20 LF and 20-25 Corvettes. Then i start to build Flak Ships to defend against enemy corvettes and carriers. After, i spam carriers. Lots of carriers that a could afford. By the time i continously build LF,corvettes and Flaks.

I  usually rush in early game and try to axpand quickly. As soon as the game reaches to end of mid game i really suck and lack what to build next. X|

I play with TEC (R) and Advenr (R) commonly.

I am waiting for your responses.

Your Titan of course!

But why do you suck at this point? What is the problem? Are you not choosing and microing battles well and losing that way? Are you not investing in your economy once you've established your position? Are you not researching enough military upgrades? It's hard to help much with such little information. Why don't you post a replay and then people can see more clearly what is going wrong for you.

OK i will post my next MP match.

Actually i do not lost all the matches i play. (By the way i dont play as much at most 10 MP)  And my economy is not so bad. But as you mentioned i never micro my battles. So i usually lost most of my ships if i dont overnumber them. Thats the porblem i guess. Whatever, i will post my replay soon and you may say whats wrong.

By the way i want to play a multiplayer match with you Ekko_Tek. I will be in game at  08:00 GMT+3 today.
