[Feedback/Request] On Map Version 4 and the aspect of "Chance"

[Feedback/Request] On Map Version 4 and the aspect of "Chance"

With one of the recent release builds of Rebellion, support for map version 3, which did not have the forced moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius inserts, was cut. I feel that this lack of support takes much away from making maps.

As version 4 does not allow for the various Random objects to have an moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius based off the entity of whatever spawns, taking away an additional form of chance or "randomness". For example, if one puts a WeightedRandom in a map, regardless of spawns, such as an Ice planet or a Dead Asteroid, they will have the same movement area. Plus, nor does it allow, for modders, the ability to put in suns of various sizes with different areas of movement.

Due to these, however futile it may be, I request that either map version 4 has some sort of option to let the moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius be left blank or allow for a wildcard symbol (aka. the game loads these values from the planet/star's entity file as in the past), or that map version 3 support be re-added.

Normally they do, but if you want this to happen on a pre-made map you will have to enter in the moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius yourself.

I could have swore I checked on a premade map, but they for sure use the entity numbers on random maps right?

Not entirely. On pure Random maps they do for planets (aka. WeightedRandom, PirateBase, etc), but not for the stars, which have a forced moveAreaRadius and hyperspaceExitRadius.

As you are probably aware of, the devs have taken a week off, so why don't you do the same and start bumping again on monday. As valid as your point is, the last dozen posts are not. They are more like to cause anyone formerly interested in the matter to just ignore it altogether.

Take a break.

harpo bumping this thread again as I WANT all the partial map features operational and all the features that used to work in older versions to work in the latest version

vyolin, this topic has been up for nearly a month without being noted by the devs; why should the bumps cease because of a holiday or two?

I'm bumping this because I want to ensure that the maps in Rebellion are as capable as past versions, and at the moment they have taken a huge step backwards.

bump and I'm just about out of Rebellion until Stardock gets it sorted out and stable.  All these wonderful companies giving Rebellion B/B+ ratings are idiots who need to read through the forums.  Rebellion is not done by a long shot and if a feature that was promised isn't already in, it never will be and bugs left long enough are going to kill community support.

From experience, games this buggy are usually those tied to a movie... wait... schnit.  The new Intro movie, the collectors edition... *(^(&**$^)  we did get a Movie Game!

Personally, I love GF3 just for the wormhole connections and not crashing as often as the craptastic new GF is.  Is there a converter for V3 maps; if so, I'll use GF3 and converter.

Hmm, my game seems pretty stable tbh, maybe 1 crash each 2 games or so, ofcourse more than expected, but not too bad. And I've never used GF3 but GF4 works fine for my map making(Which I just started in mind you) I even got 6 titans for my own team from the beginning of the game(testing spawn features)
