Smurfing on Rebellion

How do you smurf on Rebellion?  In another post Quar confirmed that he was a player named Don_John (cute name), but I remember looking at that player's stats and it had significantly fewer games played than Quar's previous Games Played/Wins record.  How was he able to do that without purchasing more than one account?  How can you reset your GP/W record?

I'm guessing that you change your Steam name and avatar and that there's a line that can be modified in an .ini file somewhere.  (I'm sure this will all become public knowledge sooner or later, so we might as well get it out now.)

buy a second copy.

but yes. if there is another way, mention it so that the devs can fix it. >:]

Buying another copy. Not sure if you can smurf another way, you can change your name and whatnot, but that wont erase your record.

Log on to ICO while steam is in offline mode. You can smurf just as badly as before that way.

On a side note, I feel bad for ZK in that replay. Although he reacted very poorly to the situation he was in. He got a very bad spot.

I have always wondered about the purpose of smurfing. Infact, in a game with such "high level pros" and also so few pros (as they say) smurfing should be forbidden to good players: it's just a way to cover one's true identity to get an advantage. Mostly, I see it used as a tool to get revenge and/or to devise counters to strategies of players who beat someone who didn't like being beaten.

Of course, as things go, it will be always a widespread habit in all games which allow it. No reason not to say it's a bad habit, though.

Smurfing is a right.  Without it you are locked into every increasing spiral of expectations, to a point where you no longer enjoy playing the game.  What if I want to take Dunnov first just for the hell of it?

Expectations are part of life, I would say. But I understand the point of view you express.

Then take it and use it. No need to make a whole new name just to try something.

If your team members dont like it or have expectations...remind them its a game. Winning isnt everything.

It's not poor Whip, and I tend to dish it out more than I take it in.  I'm just interested in learning how to do it so that I can smurf you back.  I also agree with Astax's sentiments; sometimes you want to start out with a Dunov or play in a low-probability win game like a 10 player FFA on a huge map without recording a loss, etc.

I got to see the Don_John name again and apparently it really didn't have a reset record, so I guess he hasn't figured out how to crack it yet.

Smurfing is a way to protect your ego--that's all it's about.  It's a weak person's pride crutch in the game.  The only other reason it serves is for in-game trolling because you're a dink.  No other reasons for it.

I play another game where players have their lifetime kill ratios announced at game start and the "serious" players will log off in a game if their ratio drops badly.  They'll come back with a smurf so their cred/rep doesn't drop with the guys they want to impress.

Back in the day we had an old saying about this.  It was called "lame".

FYI--o disrespect top you Dirty--I see you as just competitive which is fine and I appreciate your effort to get people into the game hard core.

Dunov is a good cap to get now against titans.

where did you say the .ini file was located at and also what program do i use to open it, note pad? windows word? pdf file? or is it one of those modding tools that IC provides. i always thought that smurfing had  everything to do with steam since steam do carry our profile names and records of our old name that we use to say get away on a vacation from an ordinary world. few reasons why i smurf. 1st is to try something out as far as strategy that i think it might work only if it its worth trying without revealing my name by doing so. the 2nd is to maybe over stack or balance a game that is being played via multiplayer 5v5 3v3 2v2 etc...

talk about violating your privacy, every one can tell who you are specially if you know how to exploit your records lol

They should let you play "unrated" games that don't add to your win/loss ratio -

takes off the pressure of maintaining your reputation and lets people goof off

Yeah, you can open .ini's with notepad or wordpad; they're just text files with settings variables.  Sometimes you want to make changes to a game's settings when you don't have the ability to adjust them from within the game.

Personally, I think that smurfing is just a way to avoid the fact that everyone loses from time to time. It's a fact of gaming. Maybe you're stressed, or you're having a bad day, or you got a bad starting position. Or maybe you're just playing someone who's better than you are. Sometimes, stuff happens. And people should learn to deal with it, instead of making up fake or alternate accounts to help themselves feel happy about their win/loss ratio in a virtual game.

Urban dictionary wonder of the day.

Quar -
The Southern equivalent of a queer. Pronounced - Qw-AR, usually deragatory unless you are actually from the south and are speaking about a homosexual. Also can be used to denote someone who is acting stupid.

It's kinda sad when you can't just play a game for fun and see it as a critical part of self-esteem.

It's a game.
