Hey all was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem, after playing for a few hours I had a run time error on the desktop which crashed the game, this happened twice, said run time error .exe closed in an uncertain way

As a matter of fact, i had this several times. And i did not even mess with the game files, playing for unlocked races, or anything. I had run-time error while playing for TEC before, and yesterday, as the 0.76 version downloaded, i tried my Advent Loyalist save from last weekend, and after perhaps 20-30 minutes of play, the game crashed to desktop. It happen very fast this time, but i reckon i saw there the RunTime Error table to flash there for a moment (before it would stay there and i could click the OK button)... there is sadly no minidump, when this happens, for me to send to the devs. I was under impression before, it was kinda connected to Antivir updating, as it there was strange coincidence, but this was not true yesterday anymore, so do not really see any reason for the crash, seems kinda random.
That said, i have both my CPU and GPU overclocked (although only mildly and do not seem to suffer any issues with other apps or games), but you never know, it may be somehow related. I could overclock my gtx590 from 607 to 775 Mhz and it would be stable for an hour while rendering picture with Octane Render using both GPU cores to full, but it would crash on 720 MHz using one core only while playing StarCraft 2 within several minutes.
Have been getting these a number of times in a single game as well.
I got this as well, it was happening to me with the initial beta, but stopped when we got beta 1a. It didn't happen at all either when we got that build accidentally(0.75). But, now with the last update(0.76, beta 2), I am getting it again.
I will try and get a screen shot of the error next time it happens, it is not a dump or anything so I don't think any type of report is created.
Have had this practically every game. I have submitted a screen capture.
Btw, I sometimes do not get the error message, though it could be hidden from view.
There is never a minidump
For me, Rebellion also saves a smaller minidump in the program directory, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\sins of a solar empire rebellion", so it may be worth checking there.
I've had this type of crash happen only a couple of times, although not since I noticed the above, so there may well be no crash file.
If there's a save game that replicates this crash, then send it to [email protected], see https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/418918.
BTW: A note to the devs - the above forum topic needs updating with the new (v0.76) locations of the save directory.
When you get the Visual C++ runtime crash it doesnt save any dumps at all. It just crashes.
It may have to do with settings, and the 2 gig problem (speculation). Basically you are running with graphic settings too high (doesnt matter how powerful your system is). I dont run the game on max settings. What i do is I turn Shadows to medium, disable Ship Mesh Highlight filter, and Bloom. I leave everything else highest setting, and my frame rate quite literally triples. I can run a whole game on those settings with no problems. Your mileage may vary depending on your system, but experiment with your graphic settings.
ill try turing down the graphics and see what happens on my system. save games do not recreate the crash; which is good, because you can pickup from where you left off.
Hi all. I've been getting this exact same error, and always in the exact same place. It happens right as I attempt to switch to galaxy forge maps when trying to start a new game. Messing with the graphical settings didn't help, so anymore ideas? Thanks in advance!
Bump for great justice, as this problem persists. Also not finding a crash dump file anywhere.
If you're getting an error in the same place, it's not related to the problem I have, and I dont think it's the same as the OP.
Just because you got the same error message doesn't mean you got it for the same reason.
Anyhow, I haven't had crashes since I switched to windowed mode. I changed no other settings, but I believe windowed mode means the antialiasing is disabled, even though the settings show enabled.
Holy crap.. it's the map I made causing the error.
I tried a number of things. Windowed, different graphical settings. Nothing.
Then I just took the map out of the galaxy forge folder. Wham. Error gone.
Now I wonder what I should do.. submit the map to the devs??
Thoughts?
same issue here, don't see any dumps in my steam folder, but I might just be blind -.-
Hopefully they squish this bug fast ![]()
Where exactly are you getting the error? Does it happen sporadically during gameplay, or in one very repeatable incident?
seems to happen a little now and then, have not established the cause yet myself
I haven't noticed a common condition. Maybe with one exception, it usually happens when I play on a large/huge map and after roughly 2-2.5 hours of play. But, it does sound like from other posts that there are other causes possibly.
Well, run-time errors are fairly generic. It's practically the computer's way of saying "I don't know what just happened, but I'm fucked. Sorry!".
The run in Sins seems to point to a memory issue, but then I had the error happen every single time I tried to move to GalaxyForge maps in the new game selection. The most infuriating part is that run-time errors kill the entire process, not giving things like crash-dumps a chance to form, so it makes even a little more frustrating to track down.
Wily buggers.
Every multiplayer game i get runtime error or minidump ¬¬ not fun
Now hold on, if you're getting mini-dumps you need to submit those! The devs can work with that!
If you have a repeatable method of reproducing the C++ runtime crash, then send that info to the devs too.
One known cause is to request an allied ship attack a hostile ship which is in a star's grav well.
The problem is how do you fix it? Im tired of playing multiplayer and it doing it. Runtime error. Why did I buy this again, how long has it been out?
