I still think variety is the spice of life. Surely you don't think it should all be serious? I know by the list you posted it would seem like its all that way but I have read lots here that has helped whether it be computer repair advice or some software that Doc posted that I have never heard of. Besides all that I kind of like reading some of the nonsense stuff. It might not always be brain food but it makes me chuckle sometime. Maybe I am the only one though but I never claimed to fit the norm, whatever the norm is.

of course not.... I have participated in a number of our games ones over the years & many of our silly ones.... just.... everything in moderation..... we have enough of our own here...

I see it as WC kinda losing it's identity....

No, its not that, its everything.. I mean everything.. being constantly buried.. just not worth posting anything anymore.

Well I guess but I have not been here long enough to know. I just assumed the forums were always this way. If its not and members want it the way it use to be then there truly is a problem and I am not sure how you can possibly change it. People a free tp post what they want here as long as its done in good taste. 

Agreed. That is why I said variety but I guess there is not enough of it for some people.

Agreed, this was just a personal commentary.. nothing more than saying what's on my mind from a long time member standpoint.

our few games ones that get bumped regularly don't interfere that much..... our silly ones... run their course and die away 'til the next one.... but with so many more games ones getting regularly bumped... it's a swamping effect....

But you do see regular WC members on these post ... but I have to agree, they do have more of the limelight of late. Comes down to the cross forums and more people are on them ...

Things are slow now on both the skinning side and the gaming side. The game threads are just space filler until something worthwhile needs posting. What is needed is something to keep us all busy, like more ODNT betas and some game updates/expansions. That always gets things hopping.

Since I can't skin, I hang out on WC  because I like the people here and to try to help out where I can with an occasional link or lucky guess and yes, it gets harder to spot the  Hellppp! posts through all the games, but it is what it is, and this too shall pass. If I ever leave WC, it will be for a far more important reason than a few goofy threads.

And burying everything that does get posted.

Might that have some bearing on why.. its dead?

I dont think think anyone visiting this site for the first time is going to know to go there... They are going to see front page or check recent topics.. like most people do.. which is what I am showing in the OP.

This isnt about me not knowing where to find the skinning stuff.

The same reason why I hang around, it will take more than a few game post to drag me away ...  can hear the groans already.

While I understand (all too well) how this stems from frustration v and syd, imagine how I feel when work I spend a good deal of time on goes essentially ignored. Not everyone is interested, but only the 'controversial' topics get any sort of response. I can well understand how I.D. feels when he prepares articles and has them ignored as well. Our posts get 'submerged' as well... If you only look at the "Recent Forum Posts" on the Home Page. I'm glad that's not the only place to look or I'd have given up long ago.

The cross posting is a mixed blessing. I believe it comes from the lack of exposure the various forums have to each other and I believe (I do not know) the desire to market SD skinning apps as well as the chance to interact with other than the 'usual crowd'.

There is another reason as well. Personal Computing is an interest shared between Forums (after all, how else would they have arrived "here"?).

I am cognizant of the view that "We came here and subscribed here for skinning. We are at best marginally interested in the other stuff." But that is not true for all of us. Many WC'ers also use their computers for gaming and know people on the other forums.

Okay. Just to mix shit up.

I feel the same way V does but I have given this some thought (cause I have that kind of time these days).

Some of the stuff in the WC forums has just gotten stale. If I weren't so afraid we'd have 20 more 'Your Banned' threads pop up in their place, I'd say let's clean house and remove them all and start over. But there is no realistic way to control the threads that would pop-up to replace them.

When I first came here there were some really good threads, like Icon-A-Day. The Rare Icon thread. And some others. There were more tutorials for DX.

Instead of getting down about the threads that exist and starting yet another thread (nothing personal) about it, how about some more productive threads to swing things around? We have a WIP thread. What about a monthly WIP thread and break them into seperate threads  for Icons, DX, WIndowblinds, Docks..so folks can ask questions and look at the skinning areas they are into? You would have to have a new one each month. Keep them fresh. Just like the Screenshot threads.

Tutorials. I desperately want to do a blind. I think the only way I can do it is have someone go through it with me step-by-freaking-step. If someone (ahem) would be willing to do a thread with me, I'd be game. Tell me what part to do, guide me through it, show me where I am screwing it up, and then on to the next part. One step at a time. When we were doing the Troll Thumping Skins, I learned more about the the little stuff it takes to make a blind complete from Avman and other skinners than I did from screwing around with SKinstudio or reading someones tutorial.

I see a lot of requests for all kinds of stuff. How about a request thread? A new one each month. One request is taken and a bunch of skinners work on it together doing different parts of the blind, etc.

If there is something I can show someone how to do, I'd be happy to.

Just throwing this out there. Again, nothing personal. I feel the same way you do. But I think instead of complaining we could turn it around and put a better face on the whole situation. If we keep this up, we're gonna start looking like a community of whiners.

I've seen this kicked around a few times recently and although I agree there is too much stuff and nonsense, I think we were basically told to suck it up and live with it. It does seem a bit counterproductive.

The skinning side of the forum has been dead for some time - maybe that is the horse that is being beaten?

There IS no difference.

The only change you see  is a differentiation between what has been the popularity of gaming posts vs what is such currently re skinning posts.

All else is irrelevant.
