Yea, but these guys are all geeks, and geeks tend to be friends with anyone willing to be friendswith them.  Or that's pretty much how I am...why I have a menagerie of friends of varying race, creed, and sexual orientation, when you are a full-blooded geek, you are willing to judge people by what's on the inside and their ability to make jokes using the words: Flux capacitor, Wookie, and C.H.U.D.

Quoting Lord Xia, reply 65No thanks, studying sucks, I will just continue to make broad generalizations based on my narrow anecdotal evidence.
It's alright, everyone generalizes from a single example. At least, I do.

I want to be friend whit you guys even if I can't do a joke with a C.H.U.D invade by some wookie with flux capacitor (I don't even know what is a C.H.U.D.) and if I dont do generalisation... in general but I really love you guys :inlove: fwend pwease :pout: ?

If that's the real Jon, then I'm a bit disappointed at his button post.  It's pretty unprofessional.

Well, the guys and gals over at Stardock are not your average suit wearing, stiff talking, bobbleheads.  And whats more, Stardock employees are allowed to, and are even encouraged and possibly directed to, mingle with the crowd. Screw professionalism.  Long live personal-ism!

Depends on what you mean by "unprofessional".  When we're talking about people who's job is basically making toys for adults, I would rather see someone exhibiting a sense of humor and fun than someone straight-laced and uptight.  I personally thought Jon's "big button" post was hilarious, and I'd love it if "big button" became a Stardock meme.

I think its fun to watch who he hires next. Its like some sort of industry Guess Who.
End of Ratatosk7's quote

My bet's on Brian Reynolds (Civ 2, SMAC, Farmville, Frontierville).

With Jon's "streamlining" and Brian's "FaceBooking" we can see an Elemental that requires an additional friend to unlock the big "You win" button, and 5 Elemollars to be able to click it.

* Elemollars are purchasable by Visa and Mastercard, $20 gets you 20 Elemollars.  ;)

Thats a funny joke, but I would love to see Brian join Stardock.  SMAC is one of my favorite games of all time.  If that game had tits, I would marry it.

This is Jon's button post.

Right now I'm thinking we'll trim the interface down to one big button in the middle of the screen, 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels tall (approximately - will vary based on the resolution of the user’s monitor). The text on this button will say "Win the Game." I've had some discussions with Brad and the marketing team about this, and everyone is really excited by the possibilities. We've seen it work well in products from other publishers, and I really feel that this new direction will result in Stardock's games appealing to a much larger audience. We'll do some focus testing and see how things go. If people are still having some trouble grasping the gameplay concepts we may have to simplify things a bit more. I'll keep you guys posted!

Funny yes.  But a sore subject for those that blame him for simplifying Civ V (of which I am not, I love Civ V)...

hrm... so you want me to remove that from the future design docs?  we were going for a staples 'easy' button type feel, does it help that it was red?

I thought the button idea was genius, it will save people a lot of time clicking end turn (some games I played lasted hours!). Will be great for multiplayer.

On ridiculous you need to press the button 50 times within one second to win.

Civ II and SMAC were great. If Brian Reynolds can make Elemental more like them, that would be great. There's a good reason people still love and play those games. I didn't play those other two, but I'm told Farmville is very well loved among certain circles, so it has to be doing something right.

That said, I have no idea how much or which of the contributions to any given thing were made by Brian Reynolds compared to someone else.

Well, you'll have problem with trademark: make it so that under a black ligth, it glow green with some mirror on it to reflect the ligth. Make it so that when we hit it, it feels like a pink floyd show, that should do fine.

OK, so who was the third hire?  Besides Shafer and the author guy?

Nevermind, found it! Kestral 2040 posted:

I've been told I'm allowed to tell you, the third employee is a former SD employee, Jeff Colvin.  He is known as dreamer on the forums and has worked with us a bunch in the past.  He left before to go back for more schoolin' but is back now and will be a great asset to the team.

For those curious, he's a programmer.

If that was really him replying then I'm glad he can joke about it. Personally I hate the game with a passion. He doesn't own the company so it really isn't his fault. The hatred directed at him comes from the way it all went down. That's the one name we all know so we complain about it. That team is quoted saying things like, "Civ 5 is a big wet sloppy kiss to the fans." There was no true indication of what they had done to the game until it was released. I felt ripped off and insulted by it.

I'm fairly certain his remark actually stems from the following:

SO what happened? This thread got taken over by "poop" and Civ 5, How about some info on 1.2 and the 1st expansion!

Well FatNonFree, I think the big announcement first talked about many weeks ago, was about the new hires and not about v1.2 nor XP#1.  I'm anxious to learn what the focus for XP#1 will be.  But thats for another teaser, leading up to yet aaaaaaanother big announcement.  LoL Thanks to all the big post-release updates, and the post-release hiring of high profile individuals... I feel like I've had more pre-release excitement with Elemental post-release, than I have in the entirety of my gaming career.
