We'll take a look. I think longbows are supposed to be 4 but short bows are supposed to be 3 instead of 30.

Thank you. I thought this would be the case.

This is just getting ridiculous.   I might be done with the game.  There's clearly a lack of real QA, which pisses me off, because it shows an arrogant disregard for their customers.

Really?  It was a simple mistake nothing to get your panties in a wad over...geez. And no I'm no fanboy (I hate fanboys) but your really going overboard here.

2.  Yes the long bow is more effectice but not even close to being twice as effective as the short bow.

Before the patch the longbow does 6 damage compared to 3 for the shortbow. After the patch I see they change the longbow's damage to 5. That's pretty close to twice the damage, but when you have groups of twelve guys in a unit, that bonus is going to be greatly magnified. I bet a group of longbowmen could take out 3 such groups of shortbowmen. Of course alot of this depends on who gets to go first... but my point is there is no choice here. Are you telling me that you would choose to build shortbowmen for some reason? If you're playing a kingdom then maybe you build one squad while you're teching up.

The problem is the weapons differ merely in a linear progression of stats. They need to be shifted around somewhere, for example make the shortbow quicker than the longbow. In fact, ideally make the shortbow more accurate with lower damage, and the longbow higher damage with less accuracy. It's then a choice between chipping away slowly at the target health, or a gamble on causing serious damage with a much higher chance of missing.

Agreed. For melee weapons instead of having three Hammers with different damge have a bladed/blunt/pericing weapon to choice from. Each type would have it's own advantages and disavantages. Same with Armor.

since on the kingdom side it takes an aditional tech to be able to produce longbows yes I do pump out some short bows in the mean time.  I didn't realize they gave evil players an extra tech for free but I guess it balances out since kindom squads are 4 people and evil squads are 3 people the multiplier works out the same for giving evil people the better weapon earlier since your squads are running less HP.  maybe resolve it by just giving the evil people just one bow

This is a snippet of the Weapons.xml file. Data/singlePlayer-only/English(paraphrased path to the file) found in the game's install directory.
I have a feeling that incorrect values of this type are really easy to fix. Purcase price in the shop, production cost, range and other values attached to all the weapons are found in this file.

I think the thing to do is to copy the file and put the copy into the mods file. Change the values in the copy, not the original. Maybe some one with experience will describe the correct method to modify these values without making changes that would require a re-install. In CIV IV I just changed the value and put the original value in a comment tag at the end of the line. It works but I did wind up re-installing to add an expansion.

Um... a bit late much? there's already been an official patch that fixed that. Granted it made all arrows miss, but that's another fix, also already posted in the mod section.

Was it? That xml code comes from my game, downloaded Thurs. night. Longbows cost 4g and 5-mat to make. Is there a newer version than 1.08?
