Looking for some information on Elemental? You're in luck! The Elemental community has a Wiki page that was created by Sycraft and in it you can find information on the basics of the games and several other things. You can find the wiki in the following address:

at http://elementalwarofmagic.wikidot.com/.

Currently we could use some more volunteers to fill out and update certain parts of the wiki. Thank you for the read :)

Please sticky this, or if a Moderator could make the thread itself that would be great. I'll be adding some stuff over the week but we could use more people adding info for this Wiki and being stickied would greatly help draw people over.

The last thread was in the Elemental Beta sub forums which doesn't exist anymore, so people don't even know about this URL. Thank you.

I've linked this wiki from the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elemental:_War_of_Magic

If you see a way to improve that article as well, please do - just remember to provide references!

I recall another wiki existing before.   I (or somebody) should likely check on that and get them all roped together.

Phew. I just got done working on a page dealing with creating your own Sovereign. I did not realize how much 'fun' it could be to work on a Wiki. I plan on working on techs and spells tomorrow as I play my game.

You might want to hold off on the "Details", I.E. how much Ap something uses to do, how much damage something has, monster stats, until after the patches slow down a bit. They're still going to be making some "balance passes" and probably will be for another week or two.

You got a point, but I think it is kind of pointless to just list an item and a cost without having any idea what the stats on it are. If you have a better idea on how to handle it let me know. That was the first wiki page I created from scratch, mostly I have been editing or updating other people's work.

It's definitely a great idea and should be done. I just think it would be a shame for you to do all that now and then have to go back and re-edit everything to make it correct when things get re-balanced. It's up to you how you do it, just don't want to see it be wrong later is all. Perhaps you could list everything and just leave out the Dmg and Def stats or list the monsters but leave off their def and Atk ratings for a week or two and go back and put them in when we know the numbers are more "final". It's up to you though, my friend. Great work either way :).

I guess from my experience it is better to have wrong information then no information. That way if someone does decide to update it they only have to edit a few lines instead of the whole page. I have not even thought about listing monster stats. I have no idea if they are static enough (within each patch) to be worth listing.

I got a question for Sycraft or Civfreak. Why are you using Wikidot and not Wikia? Also, is there any way to add talk pages like those found on Wikipedia and Wikia?

Ah good job on doing those pages my friend, I gotta say I also think working on the Wiki is sort of fun! As for your question regading Wikidot or Wikia, I'm not the correct person to ask since I'm just helping out with the site Sycraft created some time ago.

As for the talk pages, do you mean comment boxs? I'm no master of working with a Wiki (this is first time I've used) but I believe I saw that adding comment boxes for users is possible. If you go to Help and look for Wiki Syntax you can find all the things you can add into pages, its very detailed and I've used it a bunch of times.

Once again gj man, couple more people that can contribute information and this Wiki will be full of information in no time :D

Thanks for the complement. I think I have now spent more time working on the wiki then playing the game :omg: . I'm going to try and get the tech tree fleshed out some today. Spells are going to take a while because I think I'll actually have to play the game to get those (I guess I could parse XML...)

I can see one reason why Wikidot was chosen over Wikia, I am seeing more and more "Sponsored Links" on Wikia pages and that is kinda ugly.

If you look at this page from World of Warcraft Wiki you see the discussion tab in the top right cornor of the page. It is a way for users to add information or suggest changes without affecting the page.

I did find this: http://www.wikidot.com/doc:comments-module however the module must be enabled by the Site admin (Sycraft) inorder to use it.It also looks like we could simulate what you see in Wikipedia or Wikia by using the [[tabview]] command.

I could tell you a long, long story about Wikia. I was involved with them before most of their staff.

Things have changed a lot since I started my first wiki there, and I can no longer recommend them for most people.

GreenReaper, tell us the story!    we've got time!

You might, but I don't! Besides, I've written it up already. Read these:

http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/WikiFur:Moving_hosts

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg01632.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikia#Controversy

Basically, the cost of "free" can be high. Sometimes it's too high.

Wow GreenReaper, I just read all that. I'm glad Wikidot was chosen now. I had no idea Wikia had gotten that bad.

I chose Wikidot because I liked their layout better and I am not a fan of Wikia's advertising. Wikidot does do ads on a free site, but I decided to pay, at least for now. It isn't that much. In the future I'll see what happens. The upgrade expires next month and I'll go ahead and renew it for another year (it is $50). Depending on if it is seeing use I may continue, or I may not. Also if Stardock wants to own it directly I'l probalby hand it over to them.

As for a talk page do you think it would be useful? I didn't want to bother with the configuration if people were mostly just going to discuss on the official forums.

You don't know what you don't know! That's why it's called "research." ;p
