Cool / New Stuff

For those who customize everything

Hey Everyone,

I keep having the want to tell the community about new software or customization tricks so I'll just keep updating this post rather than starting new ones all the time.

1. New Logon Animation for Windows 7

I came across this tweak the other day and I figured it needed to be shared with the wincustomize community. ~alexandru-r-ghinea made a new version of the windows 7 logon UI. It's pretty cool, and easy to install.

Download the file in the info section (it's safe, I did it.) Then just back up the old authui.dll file in windows/system32, rename it, and replace it with the downloaded one. You can also install to C:/temp and then run the batch file, but I've heard of people having problems with this approach. There is a embedded windows flag version, and a version without a flag too. There is an animation when you log in, it's kind of interesting.

Here's the link:

You can still tweak the background with logonstudio, this just changes the logon UI. I'm using it now, and it's refreshing to see something a little different when I log on.

2Trillian 5 beta released

Trillian 5 beta is now available for windows download. It's a multi protocol social client that is very powerful. The GUI is much improved and there are many new features. Anyone who's used trillian knows it's a great program. Try it out:

3Senary Iconpackage by 'Arrioch

I came across this iconpackage today and it's one of the most impressive one's I've seen. 'Arrioch is a very talented artist over at DA, specializing in icon development. I got permission to give a link to the iconpackage. I strongly suggest downloading this one, it's definitely worth it.

4. You gotta try this!!! The Web Genius

So I found this "game" on gizmodo this morning and I've been trying to beat it all day! It's almost like playing against someone who's REALLY good at 20 questions. So far it's guessed Nikola Tesla, Timmy's dad from The Fairly Oddparents,  Shaun white, max weinberg, steve jobs, toucan sam, Sebastian (The Little Mermaid), Myself, and Secret Squirrel!!!

Maybe I'm just not creative enough, but this is really fun. Worth a try.

The Web Genius

Anyone else found anything cool lately? I always love finding new tweaks/tricks.  ;)

Once I moved on from XP to Vista and now Win 7 I stopped using skins for logons and boot screens.  They are not on the monitor that long and at the end of day I now put the computer into sleep mode.  :sun:

Weird! You're right. It works fine for me on Firefox and Chrome, but internet explorer takes it elsewhere. Hmm. Let's try again just for fun:

Nature Illusion Studio is on Giveaway of the day today. It's a handy program to create screensavers and animated pictures. It's very easy to use,

I'm using the Trillian 5 beta since the first day and i must say it's pretty cool. i love this Win 7 support.

Cannot replace Authui.dll in system32. It says I need permission from trusted installer. Who the hell is trusted installer. I thought admins could do everything. Apparently not. Boogers.

Comment #2...NatureIllusionStudio did not install. Instead all I got was an app that looks for updates to your software. Nothing in add/remove programs and I even checked it with the Revo uninstaller which lists everything. It is not there. Funny thing is Giveawayoftheday automatically activated it. Go figure. When I unzipped it all I got was an orange square with a key on it that says setup.exe. Did a search and all that was found was the zip package and the readme.

Ignore comment #2. Sometimes I don't know about me. Stupid...it unzipped the exe to C:\

I beat the trusted installer over the head with the dll. He went crying home to mommy. I never knew about that one, taking ownership. Where did that come from?

Here's a good one. What is the name of an app that can open a dll? And I'd like to contribute.

Sorry it took so long. I'm just learnin' how to do this stuff. This is Context Enhancer 4.0. Very similar to Right-Click but adds a couple more goodies.

Ever wonder what the human eye looks like really close up?? I did, and then I regretted it a little......creepy...

Sorry.........I was going to put an image in here but I'm not sure if I should being that it isn't mine. I don't want to offend anyone by using something without their permission. It's an image of an eyeball somewhat elongated to fit my screen.

Cool Stuff:

It's almost 05:06:07 08/09/10!!!!!

The magic moment may have passed already in your timezone, but for many of us 05:06:07 08/09/10 is still a few hours away. I don't think anything amazing will happen during that moment, but someone should pay attention to a clock—just in case. Also, later tonight it will be 08/09/10 11:12:13, so don't miss that moment either!!

Of course, if you've miss staring at the clock during this amazing moment, don't worry! Similar things will happen again at 06:07:08 on 09/10/11, 07:08:09 on 10/11/12, 08:09:10 on 11/12/13, and 09:10:11 on 12/13/14. If you miss all of those fun little moments though, you'll be out of luck for a few years.

So, whats the best way to have a one-second party? ;)
