Requesting help about custom map

Hello

I have Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity on Windows Xp

Today i wanted to play this map: Boaz
https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/sins_maps/157/

Sadly, i noticed the map is nowhere in the game to select it and i don't understand why the map is not showing / working.

I read this on the forum:
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge
But i have no folder called GalaxyForge or Galaxy to place the map in.
I created one called Galaxy and one GalaxyForge and placed the map into them, but the map is not showing up in the game.

I also read:
and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also need the sins map updater.
But it's not doing anything. It's unable to understand my game version maybe.

My question is:
Can anyone help me to make this map work in my game ? I played it in the past using an old friend computer and i loved it.
I have no wish to create a map so, learn what is and use about GalaxyForge.
Just want to be able to play THAT map.

If anyone can help me THANKS !

Hello

Thank you for the reply, but maybe you have not read my post ?
but here's harpos how to is not helping me at all.

I have not created the map.
I know nothing about GalaxyForge and the map is not showing anything into it.
I am not interested learning what is GalaxyForge, just want to play the game and not want to fix problem caused by i don't know what and why.

My understanding of english is not so good. I try my best.
I only wish someone can help me to be able to play that map, and how. But not a guide to how to fix the problem using software i know nothing about.

Have a nice day

Edit 2:

Map Pack by Darvin3 does not contain Boaz in the namelist, also not explaining to me where to place it.

May i ask why the dev are not creating a working map converter ?

Because people can create map and can't play them after update. That's sad.

I enjoy this game, i like it, but learning things like GalaxyForge does not interest me. I'm not an expert learning things like that.
Also, the map i want is not loading into it, i see nothing. The actual map converter is unable to understand what is the lastest sins game version :(

Thanks anyway.
Looks like no one want help me or there is no one there.

Have fun in Sins :)
Au revoir.

If your game is up-to date then the maps MUST go in...

C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

What is your game version? Its in the bottom right corner of the games main menu screen.

What is your windows version? I'm assuming XP because the address in the main post.

Is there anything (folders) inside...

C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire

because installing the game should place multiple folders there.

Vista and 7 directoy

I will see what I can do with the map.

Hello
Thanks for the reply |-)

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

I created a GalaxyForge folder, none was there. (it's empty inside)
I have try to put the map inside that folder but the map name is not showing anywhere where i can select map (small, medium, large, custom, galaxy)

Here the information about installed version.

Thank you for helping me !

That map is to old and needs updating. I looked into it and it's a bit of a hassle for 1 map. Try placing the maps from that map pack into the GalaxyForge folder and test it out in game. Lots of good maps made by the community. Maps placed in

C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

are loaded from the Galaxy Forge Section of the Maps Selector

Try that and see if you can load and play a community made map.

Open the map you want with a text editor and you will see the 2nd or 3rd line is Version 1. We now use Version 3 maps so that will not work yet.

If you download this map pack, it has an auto-installer that will create a folder in the right place.  That way you can confirm that it is at least possible for you to play custom maps.  Just put the other maps you want to play into the folder it creates in your Application Data folder and if you cannot play them then the maps need to be updated with Harpo's Map Updater.

Hello

I have installed the suggested map pack:
http://TinyURL.com/Sins9
to see if the maps can load into my sins and yes, they can.

But Boaz, the map i want to play, does not.

The map updater from the Download section is not working with my sins version i think.
Looks like it's unable to understand sins last update.

Thanks for the reply.

The sins map updater page is out of date. Harpo has put the new version of the map updater in his updating package found here. I have not used it though. Ask any questions about those tools on that thread.

it is in the modding utilities 1.19 on filefront and filefactory, but I forgot to include 2 needed ocx files which are in my essentials and need to be extracted to the SAME folder essentials filefront.

the only difference between the 2.1 and latest release is the targetsinsver.txt file as the actual map format has not changed since 1.15/entrenchment 1.01 and there has been no need to update the program itself.

the map that was listed in the op is a mapversion 1 from the days of sins vanilla 1.01 to 1.09.

if you place the galaxy file in the galaxyforge folder and then run the latest version of my map updater which is in my modding utility pack(as is all of my sins utilities) in the mod updater thread at the BOTTOM of the OP.

or if you only want the map updater without ANY of my other utilities then the map updater thread is the place to download the v2.01 from ( and just delete the targetsinsver.txt from the folder where you extracted the map updater AND all its files to).

the reason you do not see the map when it is the correct location is that the sins engine checks the map version to PREVENT minidumps due to the changes in map format, which if you remember the entrenchment beta will bring back horrible memories of your custom maps CAUSING minidumps when attempting to play a game

and the changes from version 1 to version 3 ARE MAJOR, like each planet having extra entries and a couple of extra lines in the initial heading area.

just for your info I did just download the map, placeed it in my galaxyforge folder and ran my latest map updater, found all the galaxy files, updated them (in place with the old files being renamed to galold(done automatically by the program)) and them started a game on the map in diplomacy 1.011 without problems

if you want the map updated to mapversion 3 I have just uploaded it to http://www.filefront.com/16993991/Boaz%20mv3.zip
