Beta 2-B Preview`

Beta 2-B Preview`

In Beta 2 and Beta 2-A, we disabled the Adventure, Diplomacy, and Magic technology trees and enabled Civilization and Warfare.

In Beta 2-B, we are disabling Civilization and Warfare and enabling Adventure and magic.

But wait! How will wars be conducted? It is just going to be a mob of NPC recruits? How do we get food? How do we design better units? How do we better equip our sovereign and our champions?

The answer: Magic and Adventuring.  Summon units. Get rare items. Enchant the land. Enchant your cities. Go on better quests to get much better stuff. Get access to far more powerful heroes.

I don’t even have a city and I am already summoning units such as this Imp.

I just hope my crash on clicking new game is fixed. Or I will have to summon this beta in my imagination again :troll:

Frogboy, if you can balance these four trees this game is going to be unstoppable.

Unconventional way to research and to grow your empire :) That's certainly interesting. Multiplayer team games have a potential to be very fun, if it will be balanced right.

The problem with diplomacy is that it really needs AI behind it to be meaningful, so it'll probably show up during the beta 3 series.

The AI in Elemental is so much better to do than in GalCiv.

For instance, I have APIs like pPlayer->GetAreaThreat(x,y,radius) which tells me the combat rating of any threatening units in that area. It's wonderful.  I had nothing like that in GalCiv.

So I can then write things like pCity->CallForReinforcements(distanceaway).

So there's a lot more opportunity to write more sophisticated AI because the map in Elemental is done with vectors whereas in GalCiv we had some sort of array structure.

They keep messaging me with stuff like "we just got done reserching forging, and were feeling pretty good about ourselves" and after i get done laughing, i follow up with the "yeah good for you, i dont care" sort of remark.

Very interesting! This way you can concentrate on the high abstraction level of the AI.

Question: Do you take into account the visibility radius of the player when evaluating pPlayer->GetAreaThreat(x,y,radius) or does the AI 'cheat' in that it will be able to evaluate with a constant radius?

the game was rather lacking with out the other techs being enable so we better get some killer spells and items to make 2b worth the loss of 10% finished tech trees

I bet you the answer is 'yes'...  :D

Bet you the threat radius the AI uses is the same as the sight radius of the unit/settlement.

It's been stated that the AI should be challenging WITHOUT cheating, at least on the "normal" level

He showed me his game features and they got me turned on.

I doubt he's going to deliver until the end of this week, though. =(

I feel that champions with research bonus just got boosted in value! Like "get one and win".

I don't think so.

You will still be able to build cities.

You will just not be able to get more advanced improvements.

But there will be probably a spell to speed up research...

Quoting AmericanPianist, reply 14While I know all the answers are coming with the update, I'm just too curious...

In the Civilization research tier, certain improvements require your City to be of a certain level.  Will the Magic research requirements involve City level?  If so, will that just be granted to us, since we won't be upgrading housing and such this time around?

(Forgive me if this has been discussed, and please point me in the direction of that thread as I will seem to have missed it)

How do you know you can't upgrade your houses?

There is also Enchant City, Enchant Mine, Enchant Defense, and Enchant Materials. Little curious about the lore of enchant dwelling though. I hope enchanted non-euclidian internal geometry is involved to some how create extra space.

"I don’t even have a city and I am already summoning "units" such as this Imp."

Note the pluralization of the word Unit  .

I just hope that Imp is not a total Wimp... }:)

Unfortunately, the ESRB forced Summon Pimp out of the game... like Ale. At least we got male nipples?

I'm keen to see how this goes, but I must admit I'm much more keen to see tact battles.

When is 2B coming about, anyhow?
