Diplomacy 1.02 - Will it come? What's planned?

To the devs:

I would like to ask the devs what can be told about what's going on. The fan base has broadly criticized the excessive power of the pirates, and approved the diplomacy aspect, I think the message has been sent enough times already. The sometimes thorny fanbase just wants the game to achieve greatness equally in all of its aspects. Make no mistake, we love your game. The question is:

What is happening?

Is the game considered 'finalized' as is? Are we to expect a new patch? If so, Are we entitled to the simple but efefctive 'when it is ready', or can we get some insight on the probable patch release date? (days? weeks? months? years? femtoseconds?)

Also important, what is to be expected on said patch, if it is being cooked at all?

Thanks

Is the game "finalized"?  It's hard to say.  I don't think we've heard from Ironclad for several weeks now; not a peep.  So who knows whether or not they plan to release another patch.  The silence is rather deafening.  Quite frankly, I am starting to think that they have lost interest in the Sins property--at least in terms of wanting to develop it further and take it any further (more expansions, a Sins-2 sequel, etc.)--and are moving on to other projects.  It's also possible that a business matter or issue has cropped up behind the scenes that we don't know about.  I, too, wish we knew more about Ironclad's plans.

I'm very curious as to what's going on, as well. I'm not particularly active on these forums, but I've been watching them for a while now and seen nothing from Ironclad. It almost feels like this game has been left to die. I'm as eager to hear what's been going on as much as anyone else. Maybe more so, because with each day, I lose a little more faith.

I'm absolutely sick of this whole tight-lipped routine I've seen out of developers.

well, uasually they all keep quiet for a good month or 2... and then suddenly they will speak up with patch release notes, and promise the patch in 1-2 weeks or so.  Its not that they are tight-lipped (well, except about things like wtf is chasing the vasari... and wtf TDN stands for...) they are just a really small and busy company.

Yeah, I appreciate this sentiment.  If they were able to pre-release a list of proposed changes for comment by the community it might be reassuring.  This has been done for other Stardock games and the comments helped to alter the nature of the patch.

Obviously fixing the few remaining bugs- normal start, bounty on trade ships, trade ports at stars and the Deliverance Engine?- wouldn't be improved by community approval, nor the many streamlining changes that are introduced with each patch and might be underappreciated.  However some other new features seem poorly worked out- pirates, the new victory conditions- and others have never worked well- mines, refineries.  I'm also hoping for a new general balance patch.  Some encouragement from Ironclad would certainly help those of us who continue to post about possible alterations to the game.

I think Ironclad would say something if they could. So for some reason they cannot.

If Ironclad cannot say something about these issues, then Stardock probably will not.

Strangely, this is very like the situation in another game that I play. The developers have gone silent and remained so even after three threads with contributions in the hundreds of replies each. Finally at long last, the publisher (not the developers) announced a further DLC for the game, details unknown. In that case fans speculate that the publisher has asked the developers to cease communication on the official forum at least for now.

Information vacuums are unpleasant for both fans and developers.

well, the lack-of-income-from-trade-ports-on-star-bases-around-stars-bug needs to be fixed.

It's really maddening for hardcore fans.

I hope the devs would release another patch, because there clearly are a few issues and if they want to stop making sins and move on to other projects, at least leave it in the best possible shape. In additon to things mentioned earlier, this annoying issue definately needs to be fixed: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/374505 . Also, ship/planet name lenght limit should be increased, I cant even name my ship TDN Enterprise..

That's an outrage.

My intent is not to create YABRT (Yet Another Bug / Rant Thread), I was just kindly asking if/when/what updates are coming. So if my fellow folks keep it on topic, I will be immensely grateful. Thanks.

Would be nice to know if 1.02 is planned and if it's just going to be a bugfix patch or if any balance changes are planned.  If it's not, then the community at least knows they might as well start their own balance patch.

It's only been five or six weeks since the last update. Nobody is abandoning Sins--further updates will come when they're good and ready.

Hello Kryo.  The last update was the sync bug fix, a slightly unplanned update which followed the problem with the bug reports being ignored... With the sync bug fix, we were told what was coming, and you asked for help with it.   A good pattern to follow?

If you have any surprises for us, no problem, keep them under wraps until they're ready.  However there's a great deal of scope for contribution in existing areas, if only we knew what direction you were going in.

I agree its always bugged me that I would come up with wonderful capship names only to not have them fit.

Well, thank you kryo! This is really all that is needed; once every week or two a brief message even if there is nothing of substance to be said yet. Poke a pin in the information vacuum regularly and there will not be one.

i'm definitely not sure if the situation is finalized since i still got like 4 sound files unheard off , well decreased from 5 whereas one of em turns out to be diplomacy BGM and that damn 5 sound files already hanging around from vanilla 1.00

Even with v.1.011 we've experienced several games of multiplayer desync issues. When it occured it made the game unplayable and often caused a minidump/CTD. We had at least 3 such crashes in our recent MP games.

Lately, we have started to play the dev-exe version, but of course, still no desync experienced after several hours of play. Perhaps there's some optimalization or code differences between the production and debug version of the binary? We also tried to avoid doing the actions that v1.011 is supposed to address..

If we experience any other desync with the dev-exe, will definitly send the trace log and checksum information..

Anyone else noticed a difference between the prod. and dev-exe regarding desync problems?

I haven't seen any or at least very few desyncs since 1.011 was released.  However, since I only play humans v. humans games they don't normally last more than 2 hours, so perhaps it takes more time for the desyncs to develop now.  One thing you and your friends should try to do is to close the game and reload it before each game.

So it's now been 9-10 weeks since the last patch, no mention of a new one and very little from any devs or mods. Is there anything coming for Sins or has the bank run dry?

Is it that I'm from New York, or is there a touch of attitude in that statement? ....Not a good sign.
