Which Civilization is best?

Hello! I have a few questions about the diffrent races on harder games. Thinking going to play Painful+ and then I want to know whats your favorite civ and why. My personal is Yor, with Torian on second place. The good thing with Yor is that they have VERY cheep manufactering(and good to). Their first factory gives 6 manufacting and costs 1 Bc/week, and their second gives 7 manufacting and costs 2 Bc/week. The problem with them is that they just got one economy building, and that's a One per planet building. I thinking about going too create a new race with the Drathas or Arceans techtree because they both got weather controll center. But I really don't know how I will do. To the question: Which race  or which techtree do you prefer. And WHY? Thanks :)

In a warfight game I like Thalan.  Early research and ++ attack bonuses.  A good friend also prefers Yor.  I haven't played them all so I really don't know.  The fun is in the exploration.

I assume you're refering to TA. There, the Yor are heavily underestimated. They are difficult to play, with all their one-per-planet buildings, some important yellow-techs missing, and in fact, expensive planetary improvements. In TA 101 they've been labelled pretty weak because of that; and the AI can't master them; esp. because they've been nerfed to 50% natural abilities (which can be changed, though).

Point is, for everything there's a possible workaround and if the way you setup this game does allow this, then the Yor are invincible.

One workaround for their expensive planetary improvement is either choosing Breeder or Hive for SA. In the first case buying all improvements. Their starting techs/improvements outclass every other civ in TA by far, so you can have a very strong game right from the start. This will lead to strong colonial rush, and lots of planets are a necessity to mititgate the one-per-planet limitation of the Research Matrix.

The economy really isn't that big problem. First, their improvements are pretty powerful, but take as good as no maint. So you actually don't need that much money; but their 'Efficiency Studies' are better to research than the "Star Federation" branch, so first bonus. Second is, their econ-techs are untradeable, while the Yor can actually trade for Yellow-techs or Banks from other civs. So, if that time is near, the Yor will clearly have a much better economy than everybody else (and they can mine out Econ-resources pretty well, too);so subsequently they could upgrade the #1 tier factories to the end-tier one, which beats everything else in production.

The only thing that bothers me is that their Miniaturization-bonus has been nerfed (again).

Some days ago I actully did me own Race (Tar's Collective :)) which is the good part of the Dark Yor. I choosed Super BREEDER because of two things: Fast high population means a lot of money in the very begining. Secondly, they will be VERY hard to defeat if the opponet don't send all troop-transports the same turn. I also but + 20 in soldering ;)

When my economy seemed to go bad, I just traded Xeno Economics. Easy :) If u want a bigger economy boost, trade the best economy tech(forgot its name) from Iconian. It gives +50% and is a one per planet tech!

Because of their cheap factories i didnt had to put anything in ethier social or military production.

I have just test this race on Tough but will try it out on a harder diff later, but so far it rocks! :) I will soon put up my ability select.

Okey here the facts are:

Techs- Space conquest(+10 in military production), Hyper fusion reactors, Advanced Population Acceleration, Cybernetic History, Efficiency studies 1. BTW I never research more than collective manufactering 2 until I have a really strong economy.

Abilities- Creativiy +25, Economics +30, Loyalty +0, Luck +25, Morale +10, Repair +20, Sensors +4, Soldiering +20, Trade +20. You wonder why I take repair, loyalty and sensors? Just to make the game a bit more exiting. Of course this can be heavely changed.

Political: Technologists

Super Ability: Super Breeder
