Helping New Players

For what it's worth, we can dedicate posts upon posts upon posts to 'why MP is dying' or 'why ICO sucks' or what have you, but it's just pissing in the wind. Until we can get an active community interested in preserving the online aspect, we're F'ing ourselves up our own arses.

I'll be in contact with Gamereplays.org and see if we can open up a Sins of a Solar Empire section, which should help new and interested players immensely, along with attracting attention to the game. If not, maybe we can set something up ourselves.

Along with that, expert players gain nothing from trouncing new players. We obviously don't learn anything since there isn't a challenge, and the new players don't gain anything from getting suddenly whiped off the face of the planet. Instead maybe we can invest that time and effort into contributing to the community and making SoaSE a truly respectable MP RTS platform.

I posted something similar in one of the threads but since Forum Restore I'm not sure it still exists. If I get into the game where there are 2 noobs on each team I always try to convince skilled players of both teams to keep them alive for as long as possible for them to get longer replays.

Lately I played some 1v1  or 2v2 with nobs. Sort of teaching games if u want. I pointed how i colonize and if i saw obvious mistakes i told them what they did wrong and how i would played it. 

Perhaps u could post links here to game replays perhaps HOW TO sort of type.

How to colonize , What to research first what to upgrade ...... u get my meaning. I do realize that games and situations differ but colonization and some stuff at start of the game can be similar each game. 

There were some posts here before restore about being to late and yes we lost some of best players already due to smurfing and stacking and while i completely agree with them that it got out of control, I'm not ready to say goodbye to SINS..... Yet

PS I'm not a noob and i can hold against most players (except top 10% i would say - I dont know if u remember me approximately a week ago there was DT against non-claners and we were foes until I mini dumped) but I would like to get some pointers on microing. Microing i do (assigning numbers to caps, LRMs... )was taught to me by Zoomers but i cannot get used to his system and most of the time I go back to side screen microing. I tried to mix numbers but still.... i got problems. My name is greg30007. I would appreciate all help and I promise i will try to pass it on

Really? That's what Ithought too C4. I log in randomly across the day and find 1-4 people on at max and none of them ever host or talk to me and I try asking them to play and I'm a new player too.

I was watching both Vanilla/Entrenchment and Diplomacy. I ended up joining a game with some new people begging to play on Vanilla and trying to sell the virtues of the expansions to them.

I like your attitude CON.  While everyone else is bitching about 3 skirantras are OP, Diplomacy has divided the already small community, and how horrible smurfing is, you are focused on what matters - helping players learn the game.  I wish the devs would post the figures on how many new Trinity players there are daily, weekly, etc.  I have seen gruntloads.  This game is no different than many other long term mulitplayer games that go on for years and years with a steady if not robust following.  I can only imagine the disdain new players feel when they see whining lamentations, and all the dumbasses that won't sit still long enough to get a game going.

As improbably as it may seem, perhaps Sins will enjoy a small revival as new people purchase Trinity and come online without having to encounter the experienced players who quit the game.

I believe you were playing advent and asking about my multiple capital ships (figure out how to get them out early yet?). I went random and ended up Vasari, although I prefer Advent myself. A Mothership with one or two Halcyon's are my favorite with this race. Advent doesn't really have a healer until late so the Mothership shield restore coupled with Guardians is kinda a must.

Hi PaulTa I would love some help as although I am quite a veteran sins player I have limited MP experience and theres hardly anyone online who wants to play these days! any help would be great cheers

Diplomacy is still active after 9PM CST.  Not as active as Entrench used to be, but it is steady and getting better with lots of Trinity noobs.  Get on then and shout out benny.  Be glad to get some games going with you.

I tryed to teach people once, It was hard work due to the time difference of where the 'hawk' lived, most people played this game in the USA, where as the Hawk lived in the UK. So I had to arrange games around about 10pm the hawks  time on a sunday, and the hawk was so tired the next day for work, he used to fall asleep

So the Hawk, the great on, the peoples champ, salutes you and wishes you good luck in helping other players out, the only thing I would recommend, is to:

1. Get xfire or some other software to allow you to talk to them.

2. Show examples on what should be done.
