Is it just me or when on a random map, the map almost always sticks you in the corner...
I usually like getting a corner spot. It's much easier to defend. Of course, it's not much help when you get put there with no stars, but that's what Ctrl-N is for.
what's funnier is when your enemy tries to wage war with you and your all the way in the corner. the attack can only come from 1 direction so it's relitively easy to mount a defence as Craig said.
I find that i'm often placed in the corner as well. It's terribly difficult to try and win a military conquest victory when you only have a small corner of stars and the rest of the races have the entire galaxy. I guess it's a nice challenge to overcome but it makes me feel more secure knowing i have many planets at my disposal rather than just the corner.
