EVE Online

EVE Online

Is it worth the money?

So, I have been playing my trial for EVE Online for the past 2 days. I have to say, it is (so far) pretty cool. I like how you can lock onto multiple ships, thus allowing you to engage multiple enemies simultaneously. I also like how the ammo loading system is set up.

What I would like to know, especially as if EVE continues to impress me very much I have very grandiose (like, take over the gameworld grandiose  :ninja: >_> <_< (crap! how do you make the digicon w/ the tongue hanging out!)) plans for it.

But what I really want to know is: is it worth paying $15 a month, every month, to play.

I heard that someone is working on a multiplayer game where you actually get to fly the ships manually, but I don't know the name offhand. Maybe one day there will be a decent space-mmo to replace this overrated "game".

You may be thinking of Jumpgate: Evolution. I haven't kept up with its development, but I played its predecessor for over three years. Jumpgate Classic was, in nearly every respect, the opposite of EVE. It had poor graphics, a small universe, and a simplistic economy, but it also required full manual control of ships at all times. There were no character skills or attributes, either. Just you, a joystick (or keyboard+mouse) and your ship. I've been involved in big (30+ ships) fleet battles, and it's amazing fun.

Of course it's not as fun when the node crashes. Dominion made it worse. 49- crashed on Saturday night and Sunday night with ~1100 people in system.

Meh. :P

There are also Black Prophecy and Infinity. Both are still in development.

Meh.

Yeah, we have had some crashes too in the North defending against TriZoo, Atlas and the russians... It's a pitty, big battles worked much better pre-dominion, I hope they fix all the lag issues soon.

o7 Also an EVE player and CEO.

My corporation specializes in exploration, wormhole space, tech 3 production, and capital ship production. We are actively anti-pirate, have station facilities, 0.0 access, group activities, an out-of-game support (forum, wiki, loyalty point system...).

@LCCX- any chance you could pass along enough money for a PLEX?:')

Question:

Can you buy a PLEX with a trial account and then upgrade using the PLEX?

You can't make enough money during the trial for a PLEX. Game Time Codes are also sold legit for in-game money, but you have to use the forums and the secure GTC trading system in Account Management for that, not the in-game market.

GTCs however can upgrade a trial account to a full paying one.

Ah ok. Best to just Pay the first month and then use the PLEX option?

If you play a fair bit then yes, you should be able to afford a PLEX for the second month. Will be a lot of penny pinching, though.

*sigh* I was afraid of such a thing.

I got an email saying the free 5-day reactivation offer would expire in a few days, so I went ahead and did it. I noticed they're also offering me a $5 discount on the first month; I don't know if I'll go for it, but at least I can log in and poke around for a bit.

Looks like I have a fair bit of stuff left over from last time. 3 mil isk, 10 mil skillpoints, a mining barge and destroyer, and a whole lot of random loot from who-knows-where scattered across the entire region. I should probably sell or reprocess most of that. I have the skills to fly a Thorax, too, but I'll need more time to figure out if I can use the necessary modules as well.

Unsurprisingly, I also got kicked out of my old corp at some point. I wasn't in it for more than a few weeks, though, so I'm not exactly heartbroken.

Yeah, a lot of corps will kick for inactivity :x
