"V" 2009

I am talking about the new sci-fi show, which started to run recently... similarly to BSG it wants to reimagined version of the original show from 80´s, at least i read something like that.

So have you seen it? Have you seen the original? What do you think about it?

In the process of watching the new episode now...... the rigtist miltaristic bent is beginning to get more pronounced again, but maybe I'm just being paranoid......

At least it is not having the leftist bent to the show like so many others on TV these days. I like how it makes subtle pokes at the Democrats and the Obama Administration. I can so see Obama, as a V and the manipulation of the media by the V’s are so similar to what’s going on now in America and no I’m not a Republican (they are almost as bad as the Demosocilist (hey now that is a good name for them and accurately describes the current democratic party,) I’m more the moderate.

As the show moves forward I do love it more and more. The same with Anna... oh yeah, Anna :D

I like Diana from the old series--boy, she's hot.   Except she probably looks older now.  And she's a lizard.

Am I completely blind to be missing all the subtext? I haven't really noticed any of the 'pokes at Democrats or Obama'. The whole thing is really just a variation on the theme of Brave New World, with the aliens trying to control us by giving us what we want. If you're saying it's an allegory for Obama, it seems equally suitable as an allegory for any given politician.

More on topic, the series itself has been pretty good, IMO. Although I think it's time we made it illegal for anyone to use in media res. It's been so abused that it's lost any power it may have once has. Stop going to that well Hollywood, it's dried up.

It's pretty subtle, so much so that I'm not even sure if it's even there as I said before: the whole arrival of an outside, foreign force offering "hope" and "change", then being allowed into our nation and lives when they're really trying to undermine America and traditional institutions like the church, the family, and the military....... plus the health care thing.

Name one. Actually, you should probably name at least three, since Stargate, 24, and V are all right-leaning, but I'd be surprised if you could find even one. And no, late-night comedy doesn't count: they're as nasty to Obama as they were to Bush.

I saw them as coming in and offering free tech. Health care didn't blit on my radar, because really what else would they have offered that would have made such a splash except cures for everything? It's the standard offering from 'benevolent' aliens for a reason.

I may have misspoke a bit earlier; it's not really that I don't understand how people could be seeing the subtext you claim, it's more that it never struck me that it was there while I was watching it, and I still have doubts as to how much of this subtext being reported comes from the show and how much comes from the viewer.

I noticed pokes as well, and I don't even follow the new series closely.  The aliens promised universal health care if we "join with them in peace".

Personally I'm not sure if it's so much the media trying to manipulate the public with these subliminal messages as it is just the screenwriter trying to stay relevant to things the public cares about.  But who knows--maybe Obama really is secretly an alien offering up health care to us all, and his cabinet and death panels are all aliens tasked with choosing which yummy humans get beamed up to the mother ship for supper.

In order for a spontaneous reaction to occur activation energy must be provided.

Since when ???? For info :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_process

A spontaneous process is capable of proceeding in a given direction, as written or described, without needing to be driven by an outside source of energy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_reaction

Chemical reactions can be either spontaneous, requiring no input of energy, or non-spontaneous, often coming about only after the input of some type of energy.

Sorry, just spouting off the nonsense I learned when I took chemistry in highschool. Of course wikipedia is right.

I think the more applicable field is Thermodynamics, where they talk about entropy.  That is more sophomore-level college.  But I digress....

On a much simpler level, maybe here's a good analogy:   put a ball on a hill.  The ball is going to roll down the hill--no activation energy required.  The thing is, it's not like the ball is going to just sit there for however long and then one day decide it's going to roll down.  You had to actually PUT the ball on the hill.  That's the activation energy.  Plus you've got the potential energy, in that the ball is at a higher elevation.

In a similar fashion in chemistry, it's not like two hydrogen and oxygen molecules are going to just sit next to each other and wave for awhile before they combust.  They had to get there somehow.  We ALL had to get here somehow....

Just tryin' to get you all on the same page.   Back to drooling and lusting over hot aliens.....

So the show is not going to be aired again until March 2010?

Yes, the same with Flash Forward and Stargate apparently. Wonderful. There is only one word for it - retarded.

side note, (not relevant to V): Even the Venture Brothers are doing that; 8 episodes now, then 8 again, in the summer...the hell's that crap?

yea ... but V was only 4 episodes!!!! Grah!!!!

Its a new think that the network egg heads came up with. I guess jsut rerunning the season in the summer doesnt get you many viewers. God forbid peopel would go fkin outside right? But they shoudlr ealize the lack of viewership is simply result of people having enough of the watch-on-our-scheduel shenanigans,a nd they are usign technology to watch it on their own scheduel isntead.

Well, the second half of the first season is going to start soon. I'm watching it online, so for me it will be here on March 30th. I think it's fairly ok for a modern show. It is a rehash of an older series, but they're doing an okay job I think anyway.

Now it's saying that for me also, that is strange... it was a recap of the previous episodes with somewhat humorous commentary.

Pretty good episode tonight. Issue I had thou was why didn't the 5th column members take the pills? Wouldn't they rather die fast then be skinned alive?

I guess they are just too 'humanized'.

It's the same with going into the ship as a V, but not making sure you act like a V - even though you are a V, the only diff being you are a 5th'er. He was showing emotion at every step.

Still, V picks up better in the second half than does SGU.

We can nit-pick all we can, and I'm sure we will. But V is still a fairly good series, IMO.

This last episode seems to make things a bit more convoluted, but they have managed to make it suspenseful to a fair degree. I sort of want to find out how people react to the discovery of things, such as Ryan's past and generally the outcome of things. Unlike SGU, it isn't as certain how things will turn out or even the manner in which things will be done.

Sure, last episode was fairly good. I suspected the sexy girl was an agent. Damn she was sexy :O

The episode "we can't win" had some interesting plot twists. Stinks that now the chaplain guy and Ryan's fiancee now have the R6 tracking gunk in them, but win some lose some I guess. Even with the mild sexual content in this episode, it wasn't as wanton or frivolous as in SGU. Heck, on SGU, I'm rooting for the aliens to get rid of the crew.

I liked the We Can't Win episode.  Though not as good as the previous, it does create future plot points. Especially with Anna's daughter being a traitor to be.
