Pirates!!! ???? :-(

Hi,

In DL, can anyone shed some light on the pirate situation in this game for me?  I'm playing the open game (no campaign), have been building up my empire, and WHAM!!!, those darn pirates stole about 87 planets (10+ for me a think).  All that work down the drain.  No fight no nothing.  I have planetary defense on all my planets, have soldiering bonuses, the "qor-tan" training (can't remember exact name) which improves soldiering, but still they took my planets without so much as a wimper from me.  I'm not sure how I feel about this.  I can say when it happened last night I was not happy as I just finished a full planet by planet survey of my empire!

After thinking about it some more, I'm wondering if maybe it was a good thing?  It did help knock down the Torian Empire which had half the dang planets wrapped up for themselves.  Maybe know I can get some of those on my side.  Although they are so fast at colonizing, I may end up with only the 10 or so I lost in the first place.

So does anyone have any thoughts on this scenario?  Is this pirate thing a waste of time?  A good thing?  Can it be turned off if it doesn't add anything to the game?

Thanks for all thoughts and advice.

Jay.

I've not played DL, just DA.

Is this the Jagged Knife event?

I though the Pirates event was just fleets of marauding warships, sort of like the Peacekeepers event.  I did not know they also took planets!

I'm not sure of the event name.  I'll look in the events log when I get home to see if it says it.

But yes, they took 87 planets, with no fighting.

Yeah, that's the Jagged Knife event. They are basically a minor race that takes your palnets by revolution instead of invasion. There is no defense, but it only happens once. The best way to deal with them is to retake the planets as quickly as possible, before they can build ships. They also get ALL the tech anyone has when they appear, so they can be pretty hard to take down.

The GOOD news about the Jagged Knife is that they DO have all the techs all the races have.  Thus, every planet you capture might give you a captured tech, and no AI minds that you are at war with the JK.  If you can make the JK surrender, you can often make them yield lots of techs for the peace treaty.

Yeah I guess it's cool.  (now that I've had time to cool down lol).  My military was pretty strong so I'll try capturing some good planets back first and see how it goes.

Thanks!

when this happens i regroup my fleet and switch production to transports..but what ive learned to do is i always keep around a dozen or so transports spare incase the JK show up that way usually in the turn they show up i reclaim most if not all my planets...or just reload a previous save. :andrew:
