Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

yeah I could play em til I'm dead, but that wouldn't be much fun.  There will always be new games to play.

I dunno. UT3 has great replay value, especially with the right friends. It's like practicing a socially inclined martial art.

And Quake (especially number 4) is just fucking fun!

yeah they were fun

especially capping your brother over and over again with sniper rifle

I am anti Quake.  all of them.

But I do love me some UTs.

basically the same game with different weapons/maps/characters

I dunno. Unlike UT, Quake developed a story. I always felt like Halo: Reach was just Quake Wars for Halo...

the UT series did the alt firing, weapon combos, unique weapons, different gametypes, and vehicles all first iirc.  I've only played a tiny bit of Quake 4 so can't say much on that...and the last time I played quake 3 was thankfully about 305 years ago

Anyway gentlemen, you'll have to find someone else to entertain you while I'm asleep.  G'night, try not to blow up my house.

Ba Boom!

Well, there were a lot of UT games coming out between Q3 and Q4, so I'm not surprised they made more progress while Id was working on Doom 3 and what not. Also, weapon combos, weapon varieties and gametypes are more important for games like UT where multi-player is the focus. Quake1, 2 and 4 were focused on single player storyline, so they really pushed that envelope. I understand that Q3 was a goof, but everyone has those.

Point is that the two were designed with very different ideas, so they each have their appeal. I just happen to overlap in interest.

I thought it was the other way around? UT was story-focused while Q was more multi-oriented.

Well, Q3 was a play for a multi. Q4 went back to the story of Q2 and continued. Doesn't have multi. I revisit on a regular basis, so trust me on that.

UT is exactly it's name sake Unreal Tournament, a competition. Although you can go through a competition tree similar to Mortal Kombat, the multi-player application was equally strong. Some better than others. UT2004 (iirc) didn't have vehicles, but had a great number of maps and very flexible weaponry. Loved it.

Both have a good set of weapons, but UT had more to remain competitive in its variety of maps and game styles. Alt firing and combos were also focused on to enlarge the tactical choices rather than force players into a corner.

Well to be honest I never really played Quake. Just read the reviews.

UT3 did add a story.

UT2004 had vehicles.  2003 didn't.  It reportedly had (most of?) the code for it but they hadn't used it.

And now for something completely different......
