With Entrenchment some of the features changed dramatically during the beta, after suggestions.  Things that are completely different (such as new races) are of course not going to be in obviously though,

Yes some stuff changed alot because it discouvered broken features. So they needed to be fixed balanced. This will indeed orcure again. But NEW features not already planed will not happen. Right now all we can id wait for the beta to then have a more important influence.

I suppose it depends in part how they do the beta.  Entrenchment wasn't originally going to have a beta, but they realized that it needed one.  In this case they  are planning a beta well in advance so there might be more scope for input.  I suppose it depends what you count as a feature.

There's always time to add in new features/ideas.

where is your information coming from? that will tell us if you actually know something or not

Here's how I see it. Even if this were true, which I doubt, we have no real information about what features the beta actually *does* contain. "Total rehaul of the diplomacy system." That sounds all well and good, but it's nothing concrete to work with. Posting feature suggestions and talking them out is really the only thing we can do at the moment, since the beta isn't released, and we have nothing to go on.

If their thsi close to beta then features of the rehull have been decided. The beta will determine if they work or not in the manner intended.

The time for full blow feature suggestions was durign thsi winter when they had the the Dipplomacy suggestion thread witch recived I think over 1000 replies.

And were do I get my info. I get it form my knowlege of game developement, from logic and form interpretign what litle information the DEVs have spilled and from a message I recived.

Am I not saying posting full blow feature is a total waste. But it's very unlikely that at this stages huge chnages will be made unlest they are huge problems.

An analogy is when your almost finish building the roof on your house, your not about to go tear down the basement and start over again.

I second EadTaes opinion.

In Software Development you do not start thinking of new features once the software reaches an alpha state. That would mean to go back to the drawing board with the whole system to fit these new features into the planned architecture. This is like starting all over again which costs time and money, two things you only waste if it is absolutely necessary (e.g. in case the basic assumptions for the expansion are so wrong that it simply is not going to work).

Thus feature suggestions are a nice for discussion and exchange of opinions but don't expect them to be added to the Diplomacy extension because this just won't happen.

there's nothing wrong with making suggestions.

even if it's not put into the game some one might like the look of it and make a mod.

I work in QA and quite certainly we only think of some ideas once the code is all together cause its the first time we actually get to use it.

i know all to well this scares the shit out of devs but you know as well i do it makes for better product.

also, this seems to be a fairly minimal expansion in terms of graphical updates (which from demigod i understand to be the most difficult thing to change late in development) so as long as people aren't expecting major changes there then the more ideas the better i say.

Two: That said, some kids on these forums do need to get a life. They're dwelling here, spending days upon days on talking about completely useless stuff. I mean, come on - everyone wants a balanced game. But what goddamn sense does it have to discuss Vasari lore when there is NONE? Or "Science of sins"? What use is this? None, it's just fancy graphix, there's no science there.
And the thousands of ideas for new features that will not help but waste hundreds of working hours on the Dev's part and complicate the game more than it would take.

Let's settle down, folks.  Vitriol doesn't do anyone any good.

Anytime a new expansion or product gets close to release, people will naturally think of some great ideas that would be wonderful if they were included.  While it's likely that the feature set is decided on at this point, it's even more likely that whatever features get introduced into beta will be subject to heavy revision once they meet the wave of testers.  Furthermore, any new features that people come up with might be excellent fodder for future releases, so please keep 'em coming!!  Afterall, if the devs are too busy to read them then they're just won't get read, and if the ideas aren't easily implemented and/or good for the game then I would think they have the judgement to not waste their time trying to add them.

Also, I agree that it would be nice for people who are expressing opinions to actually express them as opinions.  None of us know anything about the goings-on at Stardock or Ironclad beyond what we're told by the people who work there.  Instead of making proclamations about such things, in the meantime we can always debate over the reasoning behind different colored lasers, how phase shifting might (or might not) work in real life, and publicly imagine what that evil force is that scares the Vasari so much.  Or not - that's the joy of these forums.

Allegiance, I think that while someone did have to say it (and it just happened to be you), there are courteous ways to say it.

N3rull, like I said when you popped in on the 'Science of Sins', THERE ARE PEOPLE who like to discuss such things as that. I myself enjoy such discussions. A good deal of the reason behind that post, IMO, is to clear up the murk behind everything, because people started getting into flame wars with each other over the minor detail of 'is a Gauss gun compatible with a Railgun?' (I was actually in that one, so I know what it is like; and Gauss gun+Railgun doesn't work, as the 2 weapons work on 2 DIFFERENT applications of the same force). Additionally, the 'lack' of lore given to us about the Sins universe leaves a wide range of things that people can make up. As a result, it is up to us, the fans, to create the universe of Sins, within the parameters (and very wide/loose ones at that) given us by IC/SD.

Anyways, I do agree that EadTaes probably shouldn't have done the [NOTICE] part, as if he was a dev. I do think that the claim is valid though; right now they are probably working on getting Diplo into a workable alpha/beta state. As a result of that, features that we suggest probably won't make it into the game. I say probably, because I am in no way shape or form part of the Dev team, and am not privy to what the Devs do. I think it is certainly possible that some of the suggestions may get integrated, and that it is also possible that they have already been thought of, and discarded or integrated.

Indeed this has went from me telling people to not hope for huge changes in the new features at this point to a flame war. People who understand the process of developemtna nd people who don'T and tell them to STFU. Maybe not in those words. But that is prety much what it is.
