Release 0.54.1 Full Download for Rebellion 1.95+
& Patch 0.54.2

Sins Of The Younger Races Remastered

NEW - Balvarin Carrier and Minor Factions fix!

Installation Guide:

  1. Download the latest Sins Remastered mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sinsre
  2. Extract the archive into a 'SinsRemastered' folder in your 'C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder.
  3. Download the latest Babylon 5 Sins of the Younger Races mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sins-of-the-younger-races
  4. Extract the archive into your root 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder instead of a new mod folder as the archive ALREADY contains a premade 'SotyrRemastered' folder inside of it (so if you're not careful you'll end up with a mod folder inside of a mod folder and it won't work lol).
  5. Start Sins and go to 'Options', then 'Mods', and you should see the mods you've installed.
  6. Enable 'SotyrRemastered' and then enable 'SinsRemastered' too. Make sure that the load order is SotyrRemastered first/top and then SinsRemastered second/bottom.
  7. Restart Sins and you should be good to go!

Sometimes the in-game mod loader can be a bit funky so if you can't see the mods you've installed or something isn't working then enabling the mods via the 'EnabledMods.txt' file in your 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder where you installed the mods to is the other alternative. It should look like this to work:

TXT2
SinsArchiveVersion 194
Version 0
enabledModNameCount 2
enabledModName "SotyrRemastered"
enabledModName "SinsRemastered-v0.95b"

Hi Guys, hope y'all are well and sound. Wokring on a new model, will take some time but since I've got the new C4D R25 now I thought I might try the new modelling tools with a B5 model

Stay safe and healthy

Awesome TobiWahn. I've been  tinkering with the research trees and ship files to quicken the pace of game play a bit and address several minor balance issues. To whom and by what method do I provide the files when I finish sections...probably do things by race as there is so much interrelation between the file types.

Glad to hear you are all ok. Looking forward to seeing your changes.

Probably submit the changes when all is done and to you likening, then I can switch all the existing files for your new ones. :D

FYI Have answered the latest comments on the SOTYR ModDB page. Also FYI someone sort of recently posted this 9 out of 10 review with feedback on there:

SDImperium99th says

Excellent potential, needs a bunch of polish and Vorlon/Shadow Lines aswell as voiced monologues for the rest of the mod. Also BUFF that Shadow Titan and make the AI far tougher. Maybe, well my best course of action if you guys need help with the work is too ask the STA3 team after they're done with STA3, they love B5 bigtime, worth a shot pal.

Which reminds me, I think I told you guys a while back that I was gonna mention your project to the awesome guys over in the Star Trek Armada 3 Sins project so I'll go do that now. At the very least maybe they'll have some ideas on recruiting Sins mod dev talent to help you guys with the big issues (eg AI's handling the custom tech tree etc).

No worries mate. I tried to post my own high score review but it didn't let me as I'm part of the group controlling it of course haha. At some point I'll get you boot me off so I can post the review and then invite me back in again haha. However it's probably better to do that on a later date when I have a nice HD video to stick in the review as I still haven't filmed it yet sorry. Too buried in all my Civ2 modding work atm.

Oh and speaking of mentioning your project to Sins modding gurus I should probably also mention you to the guys behind the Halo Sin's of the Prophets mod as they take the crown for some of the biggest changes I've ever seen in a Sins mod. They changed the games entire GUI making everything twice the size allowing them to insert in heaps of gorgeous Halo artwork for all the techs, planet upgrades and ships etc. They're obviously gurus when it comes to custom tech trees as they were able to design a system where you choose your faction leader (who have level ups) which unlocks different bonuses and custom techs that only that leader has access too. You can see me showing their custom tech system off around the 12:40 mark in my tour video of their stuff here:

The interface looks really good!

Yeah it's inspiring stuff!! Btw as expected the the response on the Star Trek Armada 3 Sins Mod Discord was that they're too busy but suggested the regular Sins discord which has a dev modding section to recruit more help. Have you tried there in the past? If not I can say something there if you want. I've also asked the guys behind the amazing Sins of the Prophets mod for ya and will see what they say too.

Btw there's a number of unhappy comments on your latest download on moddb. People are struggling to get it working and the instructions in this thread aren't overly descriptive. Someone asked me for help on the STA3 Discord today on getting B5 working too so I wrote out step by step what I did to get it working for him. Figured I'd post similar (but more generic) instructions here and maybe you can stick them in your OP (after proof reading and letting me know if I've said anything wrong/stupid lol) and I can stick them on the moddb page too. :)

Back again lol..

Good news, like I said above, I've posted about the B5 mod over in the Halo Sins of the Prophets mod discord and well.. it didn't get off to the best of starts as I completely forget that I'd never posted there before (was so sure I had but must have been thinking of STA3 stuff) so me slapping up a post with links in my very first post got me labeled a spambot lol, opps! However thankfully I explained my way out of that misunderstanding lol, and Sins modding and coding/programming guru Echo (who's behind a lot of the utterly amazing stuff you see in both STA3 and SotP) kindly replied and said that while he's super super busy (as expected) on his existing projects he's always happy to offer advice and answer any questions you guys have about nasty problems holding you back on things. Eg he's already had a peak at Darvoth's code and can see what you need to do to fix the Minor race crash issue. The opportunity for you guys to interact with someone of his knowledge is not to be underestimated. Hell even if you did somehow manage to stump him on some bug issue/question he friggin knows all the other super Sins modding gurus out there (as there's not many of them lol) so being able to chat with someone like him is a real foot in the door opportunity. He could have easily ignored me and not offered any help, but here we are! :)

However he's not overly interested in communicating in this giant old uber thread and strongly recommends you guys switch project communication over to Discord like many other big Sins mod projects have. A good point I actually was going to suggest to you guys a while back too but hadn't got around to it as I've been so busy with my own mod projects sorry. I know Vexzus offered a discord on the previous page but that was his private one and the invite doesn't work now anyway.

Obviously part of me pestering you guys to get back on moddb was me offering to help run it, so you guys can focus on your dev work here, which I've been doing a bit of over the last year so hopefully I proven my worth somewhat before making this next suggestion. Basically I admin a whole bunch of retro game communities across facebook, reddit and discord.. so I've got experience in running Discord groups (eg I run the Master of Magic and Sid Meier's Colonization Discord groups) and I'm more than happy to setup a public Discord for this project and can invite you guys, give you full admin controls, and help you run it.

We can then setup private dev chat channels, public chat channels for fans to interact with you and other modders to come help or offer advice etc.. we can put a link to it on this thread and all over the moddb pages. I think it'll help a lot with talent recruitment, internal communications and external interactions with fans too as I fear this giant old thread scares off a lot of people. So if you give the green light @TobiWahn_Kenobi I'll get on it and set something up! :)

Thanks a lot for the Install instructions, I‘ve amended the Main Post and also added you under Team - Moderation.

As for discord - if you want to open a discord for us then go right ahead. Thing is, my life is so full of stuff at the moment that participation on my end is rather kept to a minimum. I‘ve already got a hard time to post here every now and then. And it will be a while till the new centauri ship is finished. As much as I‘d like to dedicate time to the project rather than towards my day to day job that is sadly not possible. But having a more lively place might inspire me to dedicate more time to this mod still so why not ^_^

All the best

Tobias

I'll second what TobiWahn said. My day job is nearing an inflection point and sucking up more and more of my bandwidth. I'm happy to lurk and provide the occasional comment and fully intend to make some improvements in the existing code but it will take longer and will be more sporadic than I'd anticipated a month or two ago.

Good luck.

Darvroth

Cheers guys, I'll set something up for us all on Discord tomorrow. :)

However there's a problem with my step by step guide above as while things seemed fine with the intro and main menu, I've just noticed that I get weird "string not found" errors instead of faction names and loading screen texts when trying to start a new game. Over on ModDB you wrote "Download Sins Remastered and load that one first (load order is top to bottom)" so that's why I made sure I loaded that first before Sotyr, yet when I don't load it first and load them both the other way around the string errors go away. So does that mean the Sotyr should actually be on top of sins remastered in the load list?

If so then here's my amended instructions:

Installation Guide:

  1. Download the latest Sins Remastered mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sinsre
  2. Extract the archive using 7zip into a 'SinsRemastered' folder in your 'C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder.
  3. Download the latest Babylon 5 Sins of the Younger Races mod from here:
    https://www.moddb.com/mods/sins-of-the-younger-races
  4. Extract the archive using 7zip into your root 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder instead of a new mod folder as the archive ALREADY contains a premade 'SotyrRemastered' folder inside of it (so if you're not careful you'll end up with a mod folder inside of a mod folder and it won't work lol).

TXT2
Version 0
enabledModNameCount 2
enabledModName "SotyrRemastered"
enabledModName "SinsRemastered"

Not sure, cannot look at it now because my PC is not in my vicinity. Need to have a look at this tomorrow.

So I've looked it up and my order isthe same as I said in my directions with all the strings working fine :omg:

lol umm nope you've confirmed the opposite with that picture mate haha. Your instructions over on ModDB say "Download Sins Remastered and load that one first (load order is top to bottom)" which tells people to go put that other sins remastered mod first and at the top.. that's what's lead to people having problems and also my initial instructions above based of yours being wrong. So you'll need to replace my old instructions in your OP in this thread with my updated ones just above that tell people to have Sotyr remastered at the top loading first. I'll go fix your old ModDB ones so don't worry about them. :)

Also I PM'd both you and Davroth a link to the Sotyr Discord I setup last week but no one has showed up. So I guess that meeting with Echo won't be happening after all which is a shame. He could have really helped you guys out of some of your biggest problems with the mod.

.

What app / place did you send the PM? I have Discord because my son uses it but I'm only in there when he has something he wants to show me.

Ahh I see you've found it and joined. Excellent! :)

I've made you a full admin. Once Tobi is in too I'll do the same with him, and then invite Echo in too for that friendly chat! Oh and I'll send Hael-sose an PM invite too.

Then I'll post a public invite link here and over on moddb for any fans and other team members of the project to join too. :)

I know you guys will probably still prefer to post pictures and news here, but I can copy and paste them over into the discord for the fans there.

Is there an active discord to help out the mod with?

Quoting Vexzus, reply 5378

If you have a discord channel I'll happily join, TobiWahn_Kenobi

Well I guess it's time to go public. :) As promised I've made a public Discord up for the Sotyr project and copied some of the recent art and engine discussions there too. Darvroth is there now and hopefully Tobi will be too when he next visits so I can give him full control of it too. I've sent the link to Hael-sose and Armada 3 & SotP guru Echo as well. Hope it helps in recruiting more talent, getting help and communicating on specific areas. :)

lol yeah if the similar names tricked you then there's not much hope for the rest of us haha! I can also see some posts on page 216 between you and @Mouack about having sins remastered before sotyr in the load order so maybe that explains his weird error too. Oh well no matter, hopefully the new instructions will put an end to everyone getting confused from now on. :)

I've just gone and updated the latest 0.52 download page on ModDB to have the new instructions, I've also put it's other text and info you wrote under categories and added some extra info and links (including the new Discord link). Let me know if you want anything changed but if you like it then we can copy and paste the whole text like a template on to each future version release download page saving future hassle.

.

I also recommend copy and pasting these instructions into a simple txt file and including the text file within future release downloads as you know what people are like with reading online instructions haha, so having a local copy with the mod itself might also help reduce troubles.

Oh and I updated the step by step instructions slightly to include "using 7zip" since I saw someone posting about not knowing how to extract a 7z file. I've also replied to more peoples comments on the moddb page as there's some new compliments and complaints, also some pople asking for a Discord or a better place than the forum to chat so I'll give them the Discord link too! :)
