Off To Fight The Indians...

Off To Fight The Indians...

Well, after 7 years of floundering around in a life that was not for me, I'm going back to what I know and do best.  I've been given an opportunity that will not come around again and I'm taking it.  I'm USMC to the bone and finally, after all this time, I'm getting back to my roots.  I've been working at trimming down to fighting weight, literally, and I'm continuing to get into shape for active duty which is taking up my free time.

When I broached the subject with my wonderful wife a few weeks ago during a much needed vacation, she was very supportive of it.  Of course, she's a Marine wife.  Those who know, know. ;)    She's the best and I don't deserve her.  (I scored way out of my league with her.)

All of this however causes a conflict for the other thing that I love doing, which is skinning.  So skinning takes a backseat.  Maybe one day I'll have time, but not now.  You understand.  This community has been great and I'm thankful for all the support over the years.  I'll lurk around a bit before leaving but that's about it.

Thank you and take care.

My Dad was a marine too (he got out just before Vietnam or I might not be here now)

I see the promotion for the Marine Corps and I get why you are rejoining ;)

All joking aside, watch out for yourself, Munkeh

Hey Messiah! Sorry to see you go...but I understand. Just be careful and come back safe,  :ninja:    Oh...and make sure when you leave the barracks you don't forget your weapon!  I don't wanna have to see you in any terrorist videos on tv. ;)

Good for you, monkeyboy! In real-life VS Skinning, skinning should always take the backseat.

Hey messiah just read this.  Good luck to you.  Marines vs. skinning - you have to follow your heart.

I agree with others, you have great people skills.

Don't be a stranger.  Stop in now and then.  Later.

Just to know, what is a D.I., in case I have to stock up on bananas or bullets?

A D.I. is a Drill Instructor....usually a "Gunny" or Gunnery Master Sergeant. No stocking needed (in the munkeh's case) as he has already been through Marine Basic on MCRD Paris Island or MCRD San Diego and probably more advanced training... and then depending on his MOS (Military Specialty...i.e. Rifleman, Communications, Cook, Motor Pool, Supply, Skinner, Bananas, etc.) he might need to do some refresher stuff...

If he gives you any lip, tell him to drop and give you 50. It'll keep him happy.

Wow messiah1, Congratulations, but more importantly.......thank you. When I read your post it just makes me swell with pride. I was at a restaurant the other evening and there was a gentleman there obviously still active in the armed services having dinner with his entire family. I'm sure he was home on leave. I couldn't help myself. When they were obviously finished eating and having casual chat I had to walk over, shake his hand and say...Thank you. And messiah1, sir....I formally thank you. RAD

Even tho I you wernt bright enough to join the air Force instead...have a salute from an old veteran.

Check in when you can...keep your head low, your weapon clean...and check in yer boots before you put yer foot in.

As a prior service Marine, I won't need to go to bootcamp again, wouldn't matter which service I decided to go back into.  That doesn't work the same way though for, say an Army dog trying to get into the Marines.  They gotta do bootcamp all over again.  (Unless things have changed since last I was in)

Nope, I've done my time on Paris Island and don't intend to return there unless it's as a DI.  Which was always a dream of mine by the way.

and then depending on his MOS (Military Specialty...i.e. Rifleman,

ALL Marines are riflemen.  Just like ALL Marines are taught hand to hand combat.  I just read somewhere that the Army just recently re-instituted hand to hand combat training...I was speechless.

Even tho you wernt bright enough to join the air Force instead

XD  I'm a ground pounder man. Thanks IR.

Thank you for all you've done, and all you are going to do for all of us, munkeh. I was just looking for a way to get Barb's teddy bear into fatigues....who knows? Maybe she'll change her avatar every once in a while to give yer a boost.

Everyone here's gonna miss ya...and be rootin' for ya. :sun:

Make sure your foxhole is big enough for a tiny lil' stove to cook your java in and a lil' paper cup for all the crumbs from the rock hard crackers they give you guys to break your teeth on.

BTW...don't volunteer for nuttin'. We want you back home safe and sound and in one piece. Home as in where your heart is. Then you can come back to the WC. Be safe my friend.
