because it fits so well:

my opinion: sure, batman has near endless resources and is very clever at countering his adversaries. but supes just has so few weaknesses and he isn't exactly stupid either. he'd anticipate and prepare for kryptonite-based measures. I say supes wins. though batman is the cooler hero. that iron will, the sheer determination and his readiness to get rough, when he needs to ... it just fits and rocks.

Bats is one of the most intelligent characters in the canon universe.  He's created scenarios and plans for getting rid of superheroes all over the place because he's paranoid and doesn't trust any of them not to go nuts and rampant.

Superman is definitely number 1 on that list.  Abilities aside, superman isn't all that smart and Bats outdoes him 100-fold.

Batman's strength isn't in his resources, it's in his problem-solving and anticipatory mental abilities.

Don't underestimate really really smart people...

Also, Superman is boring and pathetic.  A hero without flaws is boring.  At least Batman has some intriguing mental issues, along with the veritable armada of crazed psycho-crooks he plays around with.  What does Superman have?  Darkseid? Luthor?  *yawn*.  One sided characters, how lame, though Luthor is a bit better than most.

Batman because SUPERMAN gave him kryptonite weapons AND permission to kick his ass if he ever got out of line.

Batman also knows about SUPERMAN's vunerability to magic and has a number of old "magic gadgets" from past supervillian defeats to cash in on that too...

It would go down like this,

"Hey Bruce what's up?"

"Not much Clark I just wanted to ..."

"hrrk".... he stabbed me with a magic pen in the throat? After I gave him that cool ring? *gasp* Dies...

Which universe/time line are we going off of here?

Huh, I cannot reply for some reason. But this one struck me. Also, Superman is boring and pathetic. A hero without flaws is boring. One sided characters, how lame, though Luthor is a bit better than most. Actually, in the timeline wherein Superman and Batman DID fight, Superman's true weakness was his poor intelligence; largely he listened to the Military, which was his ultimate fault. Thus, flaw.

Superman's weakness is NOT his intelligence. He's a alien and has super abiltiies, he's found cures for diseases in one timeline thus concluding he has a super brain as well. His weakness is that he desires to see the good in people and believes everyone should be given a second chance. In my opinion, THAT is his weakness.

Also, Superman is not lame. He is just a different type of Superhero. Superman was made with a secret identity that had some complications with his job, friends, and love life. Superman is for the people who relate more to "Always do what is right!" and "There's always another way!". Superman shows those that relate to him that in every avarage man (Clark Kent) there is a SUPERMAN!

Batman relates to people who don't feel that way and instead relate to his flaws and darker being.

It's just a matter of personal relevance.

Most of the time, if Superman gets in a bind, it's because the bad guy either outsmarts him or he just barrels in with little to no forethought.

Superman is for the people who relate more to "Always do what is right!" and "There's always another way!". Superman shows those that relate to him that in every avarage man (Clark Kent) there is a SUPERMAN!

Does Captain America not do this better?  17 year old kid who wants nothing more than to serve his country becomes the epitome of the American ideal.  The fact that he does not have a laundry list of superpowers of incredible magnitude, and that he came from a physically less-than-average human with nothing but a pure heart and lots of spirit make him a far better hero for this kind of thing than Superman.

Not that they are bad characters, but I don't think Superman or Batman are very relatable.

Eh... no. Captain America is a delusional patriot. Superman is a delusional humanist. There's a difference. :)

So Batman would just be delusional, paranoid fellow?

I like that...

Let me say that this thread makes me want to watch the old Batman: The Animated Series I watched when I was a kid.  Good times, good times.

Well, Batman is just paranoid. I wouldn't call him delusional, except that maybe he comes from the other side - where Superman wants to see something good in everyone, Batman tends to do the opposite.

But who can blaim him - all he fights are weird psychotic asylum escapees. That would sour anyone's mood. What Batman needs is some R&R on some tropical island, where he isn't always knee deep in guano trying to figure out how to stop the latest lunatic which got his/her hands on some high-tech gear or a handy freak show (they seem to have about equal potential for mayhem and destruction).

And now... the real question is, who would win; Superman or the Silver Surfer? *evil grin*

I actually think he's not wearing any clothes at all, they're just... part of his body.

For sake of all our sanity, let's just say he's wearing full protective glassy body armour...
