Sins of a Solar Empire Newbie University

Looking for newbies to play with me, another newbie.

My name on Ironclad online is "RestlessMind". If any of you are new to playing online, well, so am I. I'd be glad to add any of you to my friends list there so we can play and learn together. ^_^

Do you have Entrenchment?  Definitely watch game replays and read the Strategy forums.  Note that you'll find more action for Entrenchment (includng the 4v4 and 5v5 games) but that you're probably more likely to find a higher percentage of newer players in regular Sins.

Great idea centurion, i feel alot of prospective players shy away from playing online in fear that they are just going to steam rolled in the first 5 minutes of the game.

If you post your game as newbie or learning or something like that in the title, MOST experienced players will respect that and let you play. That being said, playing with the best (or against) is a good way to learn. You can watch the replays to see what they did to hand you your @$$ on a plate and learn from it for next time... Either way, you just have to be patient as it takes time to learn all the mechanincs of this game (e.g. which units counter what etc...). Stick it out and you will soon fond yourself improving...

Ive taken the hard way and try to play against the higher skilled players, even though I get totaly destroyed about 75% of the time. Watch the replays and learn. I highy suggest it.

That is a significant concern nowadays since there are a great many good players out there and relatively few new players.  What I've been telling newbies on ICO is that this is a tough game to break into and that they have to change their criterion for having fun and they need to be patient.  Insead of demanding that you win the game and/or beat someone, your criterion for having fun needs to be:

Did I do all I could to help my team?

Am I progressing and becoming a tougher player over time?

Did I learn something new about the game and the game's strategy today?

Even though I got beaten, did I go down kicking and screaming and being a big pain in the ass, occupying one or two opponents for a while so that my team could beat the other opposing players?

Hack mentioned that people need to learn the mechanics of the game.  I agree.  This is really something that should be done offline though in single player before coming online.  I do recommend that people play the game offline for at least two weeks first and play a couple long games with each race in order to fully flush out the tech tree.  So, when you come online, you don't want to be asking, "How do I take those mineral extractors (neutral extractors) that are in the gravity wells where there isn't a planet to colonize?"  Instead you really do want to have a solid grasp of the game's mechanics when you first come online.

Had my first game online a few days ago.

Was fun, definetly try it! Was large map, so I wasn't steamrolled and I even managed to do some offensive. ^^

Congrats Janis

Hope you learned something (replays will be a good way for looking at what your opponents were up to...).

wont kick your ass. I'm so new to pvp that I wouldn't know where your ass was. I'm on european pre latest patch. Will that be compatable

You need to be on the latest version to play online via ICO. I don't believe there is a difference in the patches between regions apart from any language differences...

How do i play on line, iv got sins of solor empire, and i cant get on to iron clad

First, you need to download and install Impulse (which is like Steam) and then register your CD Key with it.  Then you need to have Impulse patch up your copy of Sins to the most current version.  Then you run the game and click the <Ironclad Online> button and create an account and a player name.

Well like Steam as it updates your games, NOT like Steam that you have to run it to play the game.

I'm interested.  ICO name is Distorted Truth on Entrenchment.  Hope to play with you all!
