Internet slowdowns

Seriously? Certain websites, online services (ie Sony Online) and other internet based properties have either slowed to a crawl or crashed. I can understand youtube, google, twitter and such but why would moviefone go down or other sites that one would figure unrelated to this whole MJ thing. Honestly there are serious weaknesses on this whole internet infrastructure and if the death of one person can cause all of this just comes to show that the system needs a serious overhaul.

But oh well, nothing much anyone can do then. Ill just sit back and enjoy the population run up a frenzy along with the media with this "breaking news" which i can assume will replace all other news for about a week because nuclear testing, the situation in iran and everything else can take a backseat. tsk tsk.

Internet? We just got the steam engine where i live?

=P jokes, but seriously, its pretty inevitable the the internet will crash one day. despite all the wireless and satelite advancements etc, the basic stuff still uses wires and chips, and older servers wont be able to cope.

its like a cities sewerage system. when it was built, if done properly, it would have been able to accomodate the needs of that city for many years and be able to cope with some moderate growth. but nowadays most cities are many hundreds of years old, and its bloody difficult and expensive to re-do things like a sewerage system. same thing goes for the internet. the more our technology advances, the harder it will be for the internet to keep up...

to actually answer your question, if alot of people in your geographic area are accessing the internet at the same time, then it doesnt matter which website you go to, the baseline that connects your area to the internet is under greater strain that usual, which is why it is slowing down.

either that, or Skynet is taking over =P
