For anyone having issues with forum loading

Hey everyone!  I need your help in resolving some forum loading issues.  Some people have complained that certain pages have failed to load, loaded only halfway, or loaded only specific sections and not others.  Others are complaining that some pages take forever to load or are very slow in general.

However, I have had troubles finding a common ground for what may be causing these issues, so I'm hoping you guys can help.

For anyone that has problems loading the forums, notices slowdown, or sees all or parts of the forum missing (eg: the Recently Active Posts section), please post here with the following information:

What happened? (did the page not load, did it load halfway or only certain sections, or something else?)
When this happened (date and time, preferably in EST; if not, please post your timezone)
Which page this happened on (URL too, if possible)
Were you logged in?
Did you refresh or click on a link to get to the page with the issue?
Screenshot (if necessary, if someone has already posted one, or it's similar to the screenshot I linked to above, just say so)
What browser/OS you are using (version numbers too, eg: Firefox 3.0.11, you can usually find this by clicking on Help at the top of the browser then About).

If there are any errors that are returned, or anything else that seems strange or off, please post about those too.

A couple minutes ago (1:25 Central)

Tried to load the sins modding forum

I was logged in

I clicked the link on the main forum and refreshed, same result

Using 64bit Vista with Firefox 3.0.11

 

When trying to go to the mod forum or most other pages, it takes forever and then it only loads the stickies and leaves the thread list completely blank. :maybe:

It is happening to me right now.

Timestamp on my post works for time, but it's been happening all morning.

Always for http://forums.demigodthegame.com/forum/469 - General forum.  Coincidentally the other forums like ideas (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/forum/471) are not suffering.  It's always General.

I am logged in, as you can see.

It doesn't seem to matter how you get there, url copy/paste, Click the "Demigod" link from a post top/bottom, or hit "Home" then click General from there.  Same result.

Same thing happens as above post describes - Stickies are there  but the "Recently Active Posts" section just stops, and the "Forum Jump" bar is right there instead of the posts.  Then Moderators section, then Sub Category sections are intact.

Been having problems since 23:00[about] on 21/06/2009. General symptoms are severe unresponsiveness- regardless of page desired or being logged in. Happens with Opera and IE8. Opera doesn't throw any errors and just hangs for a while. IE8 says "Base.UI is NULL or not an Object. Code 0. Line 1000 char 1"

What happened? I can view my posts, my replies and the recent threads, but I can't go into any forums  (ie general)

1537 EST today 6-22-09.  Following occurred while logged in, initially to MyReplies, which itself loaded within a second or two tops.

Clicked on 'Politics' in the Forum Categories List while viewing My Replies.

Took about 20-22 seconds for the page (https://forums.joeuser.com/forum/3) to load.  Both Pinned and Recently Active lists are collapsed with a 'minus sign' showing on the Expand/Collapse button.  Clicking on the E/C button for either section changes it to a 'plus sign' but the list does not expand.

FF3 with all updates through today (3.0.11).

EDIT: This has been an intermittent problem.  When that page loads in a normal/reasonable time, the lists are expanded as expected.  It's only when the page takes a long time to load that they're collapsed & 'unexpandable.'

I'd also note that loading any forum is *extremely* slow, but loading posts directly (from "My Replies" menu) is much faster.

* Very slow page loads, it goes up and down a lot (between 1 sec - 8 sec) on the page load time, but the actual time between clicking a link and having the page in front of me can come close to 30 seconds

* 0:45, or 12:45 AM I think you call it, European time (which is GMT +1). Dunno EST but you should be able to tell according to post time of this post (it's 12:55 AM here now when I'm posting this) [edit] apparantly I'm at EST +6, so the time the problem occured would be 18:45ish. Happened to me again while loading this page a while after, right now, at 19:20.

* The page clicked was: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/356930/page/2 Does however happen with other random pages too, it's too up and down to pin it down. The my replies page seems to load pretty fast every time though.

* Yes I was logged in. I have a direct link to the my replies page in internet explorer and visit every topic I replied in from there, or visit the 'home' forum section from there.

* I clicked the link from the my replies page (it had a new reply)

* Screenshot is pointless. The problem is long loading times. Taking a screen of the page render time is useless because that usually is not that high, even though the page took a lot longer than that to actually load.

* Windows 7 RC (build 7100). MSIE8 (integrated) at version 8.0.6001.18783 Everything fully updated.

Did another short test, clicking from the home page (of demigodthegame.com) to General.

Time it took from clicking till page display: 47 seconds (Test 2: 47 seconds again)

Page render time indicated: 531 ms (0.531 seconds) (Test 2: 0.601 seconds)

Not quite reality :p

NB: This problem is at the moment repeatable for me!

Test 3 also gave me 47 seconds to load. If you maybe negate the actual render time you might set it at 45 seconds. It seems there is a timeout involved, which happens everytime at the indicated time. This is everytime only with the General subforum. Other pages seem to be 'reasonably snappy', eg < 8 seconds, before aswell as after I load General. The long page load time of General is probably what annoys most users so I'd look into a timeout at server level of some sorts. This concludes my forum hosting wisdom I gathered from surfing around ;) Sorry if I seem like a know it all but the 'time out' caught my eye. Also sorry in hindsight for the bold, I must look like a 14 year old kid..

I can tell you this is ocassional and very likely to do with server load.

What happened? Most likely the main Demigod General forum page (Not the sub-foums). Slow loading. When it finishes loading, no topic listing (Recently active posts), just the stickies are visible. Retrying usually doesn't work until 5-10 mintues later or more.

When this happened Ocasionally. Once at June 6, 2009 12:57:55 GMT. Once yesterday June 22 at night GMT and several other times in between. Forgot the time though.

Nope didn't go through first time. No responses. Firefox just say loading...

2nd time, 500 Forum went Egards. Now time is 00:45 GMT.

Also got "Drat! Something went wrong while we were trying to save your changes. Please wait a moment and try again." during editing of another post.

June 25 BST 12:19 Just happened. It happened only once though. 500 error can be seen as a background picture. Pinned topic list and category list (not shown in screenshot) show empty lists.

barra I am having a significant problem, the MY FORUM Posts are all missing  from the my forum posts page

fortunatly the my replies page is working and I had replied to all of my more recent posts, BUT IT IS STILL A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM

What happened? Demigod General has no topics in it, only pinned posts and subcategories. Site loads even longer than usual (>>30 seconds).


When this happened A few minutes ago (GMT+1: 11:05 AM, 5:05 AM EST?). It's still down though, usually for a few hours (same thing happened on the last two weekends, roughly about the same time).

Were you logged in? In Firefox, not in Opera and IE.


Did you refresh or click on a link to get to the page with the issue? Bookmark, hard refresh (CTRL+F5) didn't solve the problem.
