{Utility release} Mod updater*v1.193 now out*and all of my modding utilites update 18/11/2011 trinity friendly

a utility to UPDATE mods to entrenchment 1.053 includes diplomacy 1.034 original sins 1.193 & trinity 1.034

I am announcing a new utility that can copy all of a players MODS AND update the mods to a new patch.

at present it it can update mods in txt form from entrenchment 1.01 &1.02 to entrenchment 1.03 and sins 1.15-6 to 1.17, it works in a similar way to my map updater ie it first copies the files from the source folder( and it does copy ALL files and folders), it then reads in the entity file from the destination folder, re-names the entity to entold, checks to see if it needs the changes and makes the nessacary changes and saves the corrected entity. I have already tested it with manshooters dynamic v0.9b and my own megastarbases mod (both in txt form and it copied and updated both in 33 seconds, but the more mods and the larger the mods and also if the mods ar binned  the SLOWER the updating time. eg with celestial bodies v0.8b, ds entrenchment beta 0.7, dynamic 0.9b, firefall 2.2, ms entrench v2.22, requiem 2.2, sins of the 13th tribe v0.4, unknown darkness beta 0.01 and my megastarbases mod (totaling 3.9GB of files) it took 40 minutes to update all of them.

and as the entity files in the mods ARE updated you only need to run the utility when a new patch to entrenchment comes out and I have supplied updated instructions to the program.

the links for old versions have been removed

I have been given permission to include the convertdata*.exe's with my utilities so I am now releasing my utility pack

I have released all of my modding utilities/tools in one archive  and INCLUDED the NOW needed convertdata*.exe's from all of the sins versions that my utilities support, ie sins 1.15,1,16 & 1.17 and also entrenchment 1.01,1.02, & 1.03

also I made sure that the correct targetsinsver.txt is included

1/1/2010 the latest version which has the updated program for the textbin gui and diplomacy compatibility is now up at

7/2/ 2010 uploaded the 1.19 release of the utilities including the latest mod updater which is set to ignore the 5 fx files that can cause dumps in entrenchment mods

19/2/2010 latest version of the complete modding utiities with the essentals files incuded is up at

the latest version is up at http://www.filefactory.com/file/b0b3g8a/n/harpo_sins_utilities_1.191_e_d.rar

now also at http://www.filefront.com/15858795/harpo-sins-utilities-1.191ed.rar/

and the dip 1.21 version http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8023186/sins%20mods/harpo%20sins%20utilities%20for%20sins%201.191%2Cent%201.051%2Cd1.21.rar

I have tested this version on 32 bit & 64 bit sins, entrenchment & diplomacy, the only issue is a overflow value with many mods in a mod folder. I will fix this in the next version

just a reminder if you are getting an error stating that sins version found ::: need version 1.1.9 then you NEED the registry keys that point to the sins install folder for 32bit windows

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins

for 64bit windows

HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>sins

and they should have a Path string value that contains the EXACT path to the sins game folder

the latest version includes the use of the sinstrinity registry key to find the path to the sins install if the sins path key is blank, and also a probable fix for the error 76 (path not found) error that appears to be caused by having a '\' at the end of the sins(trinity) path, so you do NOT need to edit the registry entries

here is the drop box link

and the file factory link

and now the utility pack with diplomacy 1.3 and trinity 1.3 convertdata btw I do not recommend using the mod updater to update the mods to diplomacy 1.3 as there are a large number of changes in the playerRACE.entity files and the entity manifest, and new and removed pacts compared with diplomacy 1.21

corrected the link above, the above link archive NOW has the diplomacy1.21 convertdata

and the first link for the utility pack with convertdatadiplomacy 1.31(file factory)

utility pack convertdatadiplomacy 1.31 (drop box)

updated the utility pack for the latest patch and the mod updater WILL update original mods to 1.192, entrenchment (still uses the 1.051 folder so no update) and diplomacy 1.3# to 1.33

filefactory link to full utility pack for o1.192 e 1.052 d/t 1.33

18/11/2011 updated the utilities  to the latest steam compatable patch ie original 1.193, entrenchment 1.053, diplomacy 1.34, trinity 1.34 AND updated the manifest maker to remove the two entities that diplomacy no longer wants

filefactory latest utility pack for O1.193 e1.053 d1.34 t1.34

Well. As usual, something's gone wrong with the thing. This time, when I'm updating the mod and it reaches around file 244 or something it says "not responding" (but I figured it was done anyways cause the "exit" button was no longer grayed-out, so I ended the process). I also updated the manifests, but to no avail, because the mod is now giving me minidumps when I try to activate it. What's the matter, you think?

restlessmind,

UNTIL the modupdater tells you how long it took to update your mods

DO NOT CLICK ON THE EXIT BUTTON.

Th modupdater will tell you just above the '3 copy and update the entitys' button which mod it is working in and when finished it will tell you how long it took to run.

on my development machine (which is a amd 64 5200x2 with 4gb of ram ) it can take over half an hour to update all the mods that I have in my mods folder for one expansion, then I have to reset the settings and do the next expansion's mods.

Okay thanks

By the way it took just a few minutes on my computer.

the reason it takes1hour & 48 minutes to do my entrenchment is that i have 5GB of mods, being celestial bodies, sgraces, sggalaxy,ds .9951,dm ds, dynamic, firefall,ds powerful pirtes, requiem, 2 copies of volumetric, phase scouts, my own mods and a couple of test/debug mods.

here is the last part of  the summary.txt

 19905  file(s) sucessfully copied
 0  file(s) updated
0  file(s) could not be checked for updating
the conversion took 6461.3 seconds total which is ~ 1 hours  47.6 minutes
4944  MegaBytes Copied at an average of 0.7 MegaBytes per second

i tryed to updat distant stars for 1.18 to 1.19 and it makes my planets disapere

Cant get it to work with Real Capital Ships mod, select ent 1.03 folder - can see mod folder - then get error Path Not Found ......

skidiantasa, the dissappearing planets/ships is to do with the pipelineeffects folder in the mod specifically 5 fx files

GS_Asteroid.fx
GS_Planet.fx
GS_Ship.fx
GS_ShipBuilding.fx
GS_ShipPhasedOut.fx

you should be able to get the planets back by deleteing the five files, but if this does not work then re-name the ENTIRE pipelineeffects folder then you WILL have the planets back.

cptn miller, for some reason the real capital ships from 1.03 DOES have issues being updated, but I have manually corrected the files and have uploaded the mod to here.

hope this helps

Ugh! I just downloded Sins from Impulse and I dont have an old version to convert my SinsPlus v1.3b from... tried to trick it into converting by putting it into entrenchment v1.041(among other versions) then converting into my v1.051. getting microsoft errors on 450 of the 1500 files to be converted. it said something about files being in BIN and could cause trouble...using 1.19ed. what am i doing wrong?

bagofglass, sins plus1.3b was for sins 1.05 NOTE NOT entrenchment, just vanilla sins. it also has the issues of the textures being in the old format not the new. I think that dolynick might have an updated to entrenchment version of sins+, I think it might be called SGgalaxy mod

I am trying to use the harpo sins utilities 1.191+e+d utilities.  I am trying to convert some MODS that I found

I am having issues in "NO conversion data found"

Help if you can

Thanks

lon, could you please give me a bit more info,

like do you have the entire harpo sins utilities 1.191+e+d rar extracted into a single folder, and run it from there?

do you have the mods that you want to update in the correct mods folder for the mod's sins/entrenchment/diplomacy version?

are you trying to update mods for the versioned mods folders and NOT attempting to update a mod from before sins 1.15/entrenchment 1.00 ?(the mod updater can ONLY work with the versioned mods folders as it uses the folder name to determine WHICH set of updating instructions to use, and also which convertdata to use as each version of the convertdata's is FOR THAT version only)

if you want editable reference files for sins/entrenchment & diplomacy look in this thread.

1 if you want to make your OWN reference files, the FIRST step is to COPY your sins game folder OUT of the program files tree,

2 the second step is to extract from the archive all the files into a folder on the computer ( for my utilities it does not matter where as I tested it from a folder on the desktop and a usb stick without problems) I suggest 7zip to extract the files, BUT winrar will also work,

3 in the folder that you extracted the utilities to look for the 7 exe's that have a SQUARE icon and create shortcuts to them on the desktop.

double click on the shortcut to sinstextbinner.exe,

( a )click ton the type of file you want( ie bin for faster loading, or txt for easy editing),

( b ) then click on the type(s) of file(s) to convert,

( c ) in the folderview, navigate to the folder that you copied your sins game folder to AND doubleclick ON the folder,

( d ) then click on the  button labeled '3 convert this folder',

( e ) then click on the button labeled '4 convert this folder NOW

( f ) WAIT for the program AND convertdata's to do the conversion of the files until the sinstextbinner shows HOW long the conversion took below the 'convert the folder now button' then you can click on the exit button

IF you want to edit a mod then follow steps 2, 3a, 3b, here you navigate to the mod's folder (eg /Mods-entrenchment v1.051/SOA2/)instead of your copy of the sins game, 3d, 3e & 3f .

hope this helps

When I select the mods folder, it tells me that "sorry, this is not a mods- folder". I'm selecting my Mods-v1.15 which contains a mod.

Arsekick, did you singleclick OR DOUBLECLICK on the mods-v1.15 folder?, if you singleclicked then you have NOT told the program that this is the folder you want to look at. if you doubleclick the mods-v1.15 folder it SHOULD then SHOW you the folders inside the mods folder, and would then not give the error.

the need to doubleclick is from the folder browser in windows.

harpo

I doubleclicked and still got the same error. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

did you see the folder that holds the mod you want to update below the mods-v1.15 folder?

like in this picselscting a mods folder

you might have to use the scrollbar on the righthand side of the folderview
